A healthy relationship is democratic. When you build a life with someone, you should have equal say in that life. You should be able to speak your mind freely, pursue a passion or career of your choosing. Have access to your own money. Be allowed to see your family and friends, without feeling like you have to ask for permission. Being in a healthy relationship is about autonomy. The freedom to move through the world without fear of being who you truly are. Anything outside of this is unacceptable. Because domestic abuse takes on many forms, and not all of them are violent. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t harmful. And it’s important to remember how prevalent and indiscriminate it is. Anyone can be a victim, regardless of their age, gender or social status. If you sense something isn’t right, then trust your instinct. And if you know someone who may be a victim of abuse, let them know they are loved and supported. Take care of each other. xo Lang
