The sanctions also negatively impact Iranians who have have left the country. Since the value of the Rial has gone down in value so much my grandparents pensions have become nearly worthless.
What makes a monster/villain in horror fiction scary is very personal and subjective. But in my mind there is a question you can ask to make any monster scarier.
Ask this: how is this monster different from a lion?
A lion is faster and stronger than I am. It has fangs and claws. it could kill me if it wanted, and it might have reason to do so depending on the circumstances. If it came after me, I couldn’t reason with it, and I would almost certainly die in a gruesome, violent manner.
If a lion was actually chasing me, I would most definitely be scared. But the idea that there are lions out there somewhere doesn’t scare me. I’m not gonna read a book about lions and then stay up all night, convinced against all logic that if I close my eyes and open them again there’s gonna be a lion looming over me.
If your monster is functionally the same as a big, strong, hungry animal, it’s probably not going to give me that good good lingering horror I crave.
