feeling a wee bit emotional about this win because it just hit hard. track record, sprint pole and grand prix win at his favourite track. that’s my driver!
after qualifying yday, everyone was aboard the “oscar doesn’t have the wdc mindset” hate train, they all thought that lando overtaking oscar in the wdc standings was inevitable this weekend.
he got into this race, under the safety car, with a rolling start, something that would undoubtedly, greatly affect his chances of an overtake on eau rouge-radillon bcs the effect of the slip stream would be less present. yet he took the chance, lifted less than he normally would, stuck the move through and made one of the most beautiful overtakes ever.
1st pit stop, he got put on mediums, he was asked to carry them till the end of the race. the longest stint anyone did on mediums last year was 24 laps, he did 32 laps today to secure that victory. he had the pressure of P2 closing in on the gap each lap bcs of the hards being better in the track conditions today, yet he remained level headed and brought the victory home.
this is the same guy who reversed his car out of grass when everyone (including race control) had already considered him out, unlapped himself and still managed to score points at his home grand prix, he is the same guy who won 3 races back to back to back this year, being the 1st mclaren driver since 1998 to do so, this is the same guy who has put in hours consistently to improve on his performance from last year, and succeeded in doing so.
i am never gonna count him out of the championship fight until he is deemed to be out of the run mathematically. that is my driver, and i am going to support him till the end!
he drove one of the most phenomenal races, and one of his career best. i am always so proud of him <3
forever on team 81.
