[!] PLEASE READ
It’s been brought to our attention that GWSN was recently featured in a Dutch documentary about K-pop (Ewout & de Keiharde K-pop Wereld). However, this documentary was incredibly misinformed and rude, especially to GWSN. The producer/interviewer, Ewout Genemans, attended a GWSN fansign and asked extremely intrusive questions to the girls such as “Have you done plastic surgery?” and made the girls very uncomfortable (keep in mind the only english speaking member in GWSN is a minor, Lena, being only 17 and today is her birthday).
Furthermore, Ewout pressured them into answering his questions, and forced them to talk when they were trying to talk to fans during the fansign. These clips are incredibly uncomfortable and demeaning to the girls.
Furthermore, the documentary makes sweeping generalizations about K-pop, saying that all idols are depressed and used SHINee’s Jonghyun as an example with footage from his funeral as justification for why K-pop is “bad.” The central topic of the documentary, however, is a dutch girl trying to become a K-pop idol, and yet it is littered with these lies and disturbing footage.
We ask that you please join us in taking action against this disrespectful and ill-informed documentary by emailing Kiwipop (GWSN’s company) and stations that air this documentary.
Kiwipop’s email is: [email protected] Stations: [email protected] / [email protected]
If you are looking for email skeletons, there are some here made by fans: link 1
And furthermore, if you can speak Dutch, we ask that if you could help us and make a skeleton email in Dutch to send to these emails, it would help us a lot. Thank you. #ProtectGWSN
[!] UPDATE
We’ve gotten a few responses from people about RTL 5′s response to everyone’s email. They’ve been sending the exact same email to everyone, deflecting what they’ve actually done. As stated by Kiwipop, the producers of the documentary agreed to EDIT OUT parts that had staffs, fans and other things. The producers DID NOT comply with this in the final cut, and aired the footage as is. Moreover, in the fansign footage, the interview was promptly removed from the fansign after staffs realized the rudeness of the questions that went against what the producers originally told Kiwipop would be documented, and yet, it was still aired.
Alongside this, we have NO idea if they got permission from SM to use Jonghyun in such a way, however we doubt they have.
RTL 5 refuses to make amends, but it is important to keep the pressure on them.
