Protests in India

I normally dont like posting on this website because of how overwhelmingly white everyone is but I have not seen anyone outside our country care about this so I am

India is currently organising some of the biggest protests we've ever had against fascism.

Our government is killing students protesting against exam papers that decide their entire livelihood being leaked, especially for many women this is their one chance at financial freedom.

Theyre cutting down trees in indigenous communities, building data centres in poorer regions. The government allows Israelis free reign to come and terrorise the public workers.

The BJP is a fascist party.

India holds the LARGEST Transgender population in the world and mere months ago they took away their rights by changing the legal definition and only allowed certain communities to identify as such AND subjecting them to forced medical examinations.

I live outside the country and have to deal with disgusting racism against my people despite what theyre going through every day of my life, but theyre going through worse and I urge everyone to spread the word.

The West constantly exploits our country, whether it be for fast fashion, raw materials, labour/modern slavery or sex trafficking.

The least people can do is spread awareness about how we've been affected.

I am not surprised at all by the racism and lesbophobia from the Bridgerton fandom, but you people need to to use your brain before saying that Michaela is masculine (is she, or are you anti-Black?), or that Eloise is. Nothing about the two women is remotely masculine. Not that it would be a problem if they were, though I understand why it’s important for Black women to have a feminine Black lesbian in a popular show like Bridgerton. The way white lesbians and Black lesbians perceive gender in relation to racial stereotyping is different and merits different interpretations and respect by white queers. But to say that Michaela and Eloise are “masculine” betrays not only your inhability to split womanhood from one’s romantic entanglement with men, but it’s generally just laughable. Have you ever seen a fat woman, a hairy woman, a fat muscular hairy dyke? Michaela and Eloise are not remotely masculine by lesbian standards. They are the most fem presenting women I have ever seen.

the gulf between how genuinely progressive and forward thinking the franchaela storyline is compared to the rest of the show and ESPECIALLY what they're doing with eloise is kind of comical. like one minute we're doing delicately written subtext that sensitively addresses the self-blame a lesbian may feel compounded on top of the self-blame from her infertility issues for not being able to be a wife to a man "the right way" in a storyline that is going to lead to self-acceptance that will come from her liberation from heteropatriarchal norms and the next we're doing a woman who has spent 4 years straight insisting she doesn't want to get married on feminist grounds having her political convictions worn down for choice feminism and The Power Of Love. like what is going on here.

I actually think Bridgerton is doing a much better job of establishing how big of a part John was in Francesca and her family's lives than the book does. John is in, like, the first two chapters of Francesca's book. It is said how much she loves him and that they were happy together. But he dies VERY early on and you don't get much more of him than that. He isn't a background character in the other books preceding WHWW.

But the show is actually SHOWING rather than just TELLING us that Francesca loves John, he loves her, and he's very much a part of the Bridgerton family. It shows how close John and Michaela are, like siblings and best friends. So when the inevitable DOES happen, all of us watching are going to FEEL that loss. John is a good man and a fantastic husband. Whether he and Francesca are struggling intimately due to awkwardness/introversion, or because Francesca is actually struggling with comphet, it doesn't negate the connection they have. That final scene of them in bed together in episode 4 really sealed the deal for how GOOD John is as a person and partner. They love and understand one another, which is more than probably the majority of couples in the ton can say.

When Jess Brownell (showrunner) went to Julia Quinn (book author) about the gender swap, Julia said she was all for it so long as it was made clear from the beginning how much Fran loved John. Because the main source of conflict in the book is Fran and Michael feeling guilty and like they were somehow betraying John's memory for falling for each other. I think it is set up incredibly well for that in the future of the show, as well as the added layer of Michaela being a woman and Fran feeling some type of way about that lol.

So yeah, the book purists and homophobes can gtfo! The show is actually doing a great job so far. Fingers crossed that they keep it up!

"Francesca needs to have biological children so that she knows she's not broken" so you admit you think infertile women are broken. So you think that infertility is a character flaw or a personal failing instead of a completely uncontrollable and morally neutral state of being. I hope that Francesca and Michaela are able to build a family together, but if you think the only way to resolve an infertility plotline is to reward the woman with a magically functioning womb you're fucking crazy... she needs to learn that she is more than what society demands from her and that both Michaela AND John (before his passing) love her far beyond her ability to provide an heir. She is not broken!!!! She does not need a biological baby to have a happy ending!!!!!! You people are under SPELLLS!!!!

Dear Bridgerton fans who are unreasonably angry at Michael being Micheala in the new season,

You still have the book.

Let me bring up points that I've seen in arguments online:

1- "But her story is about infertility! Putting her with a woman changes everything!"

Queer women struggle with infertility too, in fact it can be very difficult for lesbians who wish to start families of their own as not everyone is able to adopt or find a sperm donor, and even if a sperm donor is found THEY CAN STILL HAVE INFERTILITY ISSUES.

Let me list off romance books that deal with cishet women and their infertility issues below-

Untamed Rose, Scandalous Mistress by Bronwyn Scott

The Devil in Disguise by Lisa Kleypas

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt

What's Left of Me by Kristen Granata

Lord and Lady Spy by Shana Galen (this one is regency too)

A Secret Sorrow by Karen Van Der Zees

And many more if you google I just dont have all day.

(Extra point, in many of these books the women do not stay infertile and have a miracle baby...not only do many cishet women never get their miracle baby but lesbian couples literally cannot concieve)

And now let me list of books that deal with Lesbian women and their fertility issues-

This leads me to my next point.

2- Bridgerton is a love letter to minorities in romance.

As someone who is south asian myself, I have seen how western beauty standards and racism has treated women in our culture, literally go online and search up "which race would you not date" its disgusting.

I grew up only seeing white women be the desirable one in romances as did many others, you know what changed this for me?

The international audience for Bridgerton especially with brown women of South Asian descent grew TREMENDOUSLY. We had a woman like us portrayed positively and seen as desirable, you guys genuinely do not understand how many brown women watch this show because of season 2.

If we had Kate, WHY should Lesbians struggling with infertility and Black Lesbians not have Francesca and Micheala.

3- "It should have been Eloise and Cressida!"

Why? Because Eloise is a loud mouthed feminist and Cressida is a mean blonde and they shared an understanding? Because theyre both white?

While I do want Eloise to be queer as well just think about that for a moment, while lesbian representation is scarce these days it is even scarcer for Lesbians who do not fit the norm...the mostly white, neurotypical, skinny, cis norm.

Genuinely think about how many times ypu have seen these tropes in wlw fiction, like sit and think about it.

Such as Black lesbians for example, you all are aware they exist right?

I want to reccomend this video by a sunny book nook which talks about how lesbians in a VAST MAJORITY of lesbian romance novels arent really...allowed to be complex characters and it would be some FANTASTIC insight for some of yall

In conclusion, you are allowed to miss Michael, but don't you dare say this takes away from her story, as it ties into the very aim of the show.
