When We Forget the Person Behind the Celebrity

"What I'm about to do isn't something I normally do. I'm not posting this as a mod. I'm posting this as a fan.
I've been a Lana Parrilla fan for a very long time. Over the last few days, I've intentionally stayed away from most social media outside of this sub, so I was somewhat sheltered from what was happening. Unfortunately, once I started looking for old countdown tweets, I stumbled across some conversations that were genuinely disturbing.
Maybe it's just me, but some of it wasn't okay.
What saddens me most is that we're talking about someone who has always been incredibly generous with her fans. That's one of the reasons so many people feel connected to her in the first place.
I think part of the problem with social media is that it creates the illusion that we know more than we do. We see a photo, a rumor, a comment, or a post, and suddenly people start filling in the blanks. In reality, we know very little.
Lana has always shared what she wants to share, and for me, that's enough. There's no need to speculate about her personal life, her relationships, or the people around her. If Lana wants us to know something, she'll tell us.
I was actually relieved to see that most of the comments here were essentially, "There's nothing to discuss." Because there really isn't.
That's one of the reasons I appreciate this space.
After reading some of those tweets, this sub felt like a refuge. The world is ugly enough without us adding to it. We can celebrate Lana, support her work, and enjoy this community without turning speculation into fact or treating her personal life like public property.
At some point, we have to remember that Lana doesn't owe us explanations, access, or pieces of herself that she hasn't chosen to share.
What she has already given to fans over the years has been more than enough.
