I made another TOS lady snowflake (two days ago, but I kept forgetting to scan it)! This time the fantastic Janice Rand, whose removal from the show I will never not be upset about.

I added the phaser even though I’m not sure if she ever used one on screen because of that time when the Enterprise replicators went down and she used a hand phaser to heat up Kirk’s coffee <3

The rank of Captain is generally held by the commanding officer of a starship. Captains may also serve as starbase commanders, the heads of experimental engineering teams, and head divisions of support personnel.

All known (canon) women captains in Starfleet. There are also many women admirals who would have likely held the rank of captain prior to becoming a flag officer.

y'all remember that Moment™ in voyager when it’s just a shot of the closed doors of a turbolift and they open and captain kathryn janeway of the federation starship voyager is standing there flanked by two other crewmen and she’s holding this giant plasma gun and her face is cold as steel and she and the squad walk out of the turbolift and into the hallway ready to just DESTROY and it’s so synced and flawless??? i gain 10 years on my life every time

Bessie Coleman was the first African American woman to stage a public flight in the United States in 1922 and was also the first black woman to earn a pilot license. 

When schools in the States denied her entry for being a black woman, she learned French by herself and move to France, where she entered the  Caudron Brother’s School of Aviation. In barely seven months, Coleman earned her license. She specialized in stunt flying and parachuting and worked performing aerial tricks, although she wanted to open a flying school for African Americans. 

in 1936, when she was 36 years old, an accident during a rehearsal killed her. She remains a pioneer for women in aviation.

'Star Trek: Discovery' Casts 'Walking Dead' Actress as Star: Exclusive

Sonequa Martin-Green, well known to genre fans for her role on AMC’s mega-hit The Walking Dead, has been cast as the lead of Star Trek: Discovery, sources tell EW.

Martin-Green will play Lieutenant Commander Rainsford on the Discovery.

Doug Jones will play Lt. Saru, a Starfleet science officer and an alien species new to the Star Trek universe. He is a respected actor with a large following of sci-fi and horror fans as a result of his creature performances in the likes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy, Legion, Pan’s Labyrinth and The Strain.

Michelle Yeoh is set to play Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet captain aboard the starship Shenzhou. She is an internationally known actress and action star whose many credits include Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
