I know the genetic engineering stuff with Julian wasn’t planned, but in Paradise Lost/Homefront they go out of their way to have him express that he doesn’t have family he wants to contact on Earth and it just makes me wonder what they WERE thinking about his background.

Definitely less glaring/more coincidental but still interesting things in hindsight is in Armageddon Game they make it a point to show that no one really has info on Julian’s parents/family, and the fact that in the early seasons he goes out of his way to have people call him Julian instead of by his rank or Bashir. It’s compelling that the name especially ties together, that he’s insistent on using the name he chose for himself rather than the one that connects him to his parents, and hesitant to use the rank that he feels he didn’t earn
