The river is deep,
And wide.
You wade out to your waist;
Crossing will be easy, you think.
Get to the other side and move on,
Move forward.
You miss the safety of the edge,
But you continue. You know you need to.
So you press on.
The current snags you in the middle,
Pulls at your legs.
It wants to sweep you away,
Down into the unknown,
Drowning your thoughts.
Going back would be the easiest choice,
Moving backward, where it’s safe.
But safe and easy isn’t moving on.
So you press on.
You move forward.
You fucking swim.
The end is nigh. (via darthlisterfiend)
When I dreamt of Alaska as a child, the visions in my head were murky, albeit awing scenes of white blankets covering the land and mountain tops hiding their peaks within low-lying clouds. I could see it all in my head, but it was a memory constructed out of someone else’s written words. I was merely borrowing the experience; it was never truly mine. Seeing all of those childhood dreams with my own eyes, feeling it all with my own being - climbing to the top of one of those peaks, stepping into one of those snowy blankets on a trail, breathing in so deeply the evergreen will forever remain in my lungs - has conjured an indescribable force in me, deeper than my bone and tissue, deeper than the cells carrying me through each day. No, the borrowing life is not for me.
