“I want you to be my maid of honor!” Those words have haunted you all your adult life. Every friend you have or have had in the past has asked you to be their bride’s maid. This time, though, your little sister asked you to be her maid of honor. How could you say no? You pretended to be enthusiastic about it when you told her you were thrilled and honored that she chose you but secretly you were dreading the very thought of the process of it all. You had nothing against marriage, just weddings. You never saw the appeal in the traditions and the big fancy weddings in churches with the big white dress and the bells; you never understood it. And when people, family members more specifically, asked when you were gonna get married; that’s when you despised weddings with a passion. But whenever someone asked you to attend or be a part of theirs, you did it with a smile.

“Oh! And you have to wear these!” Your bushy tailed little sister exclaimed holding up a pair of sleek black six-inch pumps. You had to question yourself on weather they were shoes or death traps? You’ve never been good in high heels. Most of the weddings you’ve been to you’ve been able to get away with wearing flats or no shoes at all, but you knew your sister wouldn’t allow you to get away with jack shit; you had to wear those shoes. This was something you couldn’t get out of.
