Tim Brooke-Taylor OBE (1940–2020)
Tim was a key figure in British television comedy. He was one of The Goodies (1970–1982), as well as contributing to several other well-known comedy programmes including I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again (on television and radio) and At Last the 1948 Show; the latter of which was written and performed in 1967 with John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and Marty Feldman (photo 2). He also starred on the long-running, popular radio programme I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue which has been airing since 1972.
Brooke-Taylor read law at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was the president of Cambridge Footlights in 1963. He was married to Christine Weadon, and they had two sons.
John Cleese said, “Tim was a huge part of my early comedy life. We performed together in The West End, on Broadway, and in over 100 I’m Sorry, I’ll Read that Agains. And then two series of At Last, The 1948 Show. He was a great performer and companion. I have just lost the will to be silly.”
This virus is a motherfucker.
