A Doe, An Otter and a Rat || The End of The Line
feat @jenkinsthelion
It was Lily’s final shift of the year as an observer and Merlin, was she glad for it - the bump she held was becoming almost unbearable. Even though she was only six months into the pregnancy, the young redhead somehow held a bump that resembled one of an eight or nine month pregnancy. Her husband had made sure to pair her with his young protege in order to make sure that she was well protected. James trusted the young man and it was sweet really, and the more Lily spoke to the young male, the more he began to remind her of her husband - though minus the cockiness. Danny Jenkins walked alongside her, scouting out the surrounding area of the camp though he really wasn’t one for doing so in silence. Lily had stopped paying attention to the male’s words a while ago so she didn’t really have any idea what he was saying, giving a few laughs and nods of her head seemed to suffice as acknowledgement for the male. She was grateful that he was there, it would have been lonely on her own and the redhead would likely have been scared out of her mind - though part of her wished that James had taken a protege that wasn’t so talkative. The auburn haired young woman inhaled deeply and closer her eyes for a moment, a smile crossing her lips as the fresh scent of the woodland surroundings entered her nostrils, in such a peaceful setting she only wished that she could completely let her guard down and perhaps be in the presence of her husband in such a place, it was beautiful really.. If you ignored the odd scorch marks in the grass and broken branches of the trees.
“So I said to her, there’s no way that you could have beaten me in wizarding ch-” Lily hushed the male as her emerald eyes scanned the forest before them, narrowed as they settled on a flash of shading in the trees just beyond them. “Draw your wand..” Lily spoke quietly as she took her own from her pocket and held it tightly in her hand, gaze trained on the area that she had seen the shadow mere moments before. The dead branches of the trees above them creaked and scratched against eachother, the sound causing an eerie feel to ruin any peaceful air that remained in the area. A childlike giggle drifted through the air toward the pair and Lily quickly peered to the side, seeing the young Gryffindor’s wand trained in the direction of the noise. He was attentive, she’d give him that.. James had been teaching him well. Lily... The voice whispered on the wind, making the auburn haired young woman’s heart rate increase as she quickly took a step back, swallowing hard as she blinked heavily. Lily... The voice repeated, causing the young woman to quickly snap her gaze to the side in a different direction. Once again the auburn haired woman saw the shadow flicker through the trees. The pregnant woman took a few steps forward in the direction of the shadow, being closely followed by the young Gryffindor as she followed the shadow.
It was almost as the the shadow had wanted to play a game with the two of them.. Or her mostly, since he somehow knew her name. The shadow kept calling her name so Lily and Danny followed him further into the woods. They made it to a small clearing, into which the pair stepped and found a pool of sunlight hitting the floor. Lily... The voice wasn’t a whisper this time, and it was from a figure who stood before her - one she recognised. The dirty blonde hair and the defined features made her heart rapidly beat against her chest, though something seemed different about him. “Peter..” She grinned, happy to see the male before he raised his wand, keeping the end of it trained on her. Danny quickly stepped up beside the auburn haired young woman, pointing his wand at the male. “There’s two of us, mate.. I suggest you take your leave now.” The young man spoke and Lily quickly shook her head. “It’s okay Danny.. He’s a friend. Peter what’s wrong? What happened?” The young woman lowered her own wand and took a few, cautious steps further into the clearing. A baby on the way? My... James must be thrilled. A slight, devlish smirk passed over the young man’s lips as his dark eyes fell to Lily’s abdomen. Danny was hanging back slightly, allowing Lily to take the first steps.. He didn’t want to interfere, it was obvious that the woman knew him and thought that she would be able to talk some sense into him.
“James.. Sirius.. Remus - they all came searching for you.. What happened? Where were you?” Lily questioned the male, brows tugging together as she stopped walking, seeing his grip on his wand adjust - it honestly didn’t look to her like he was going to back down.. But she liked to think that she knew Peter better than that. Lies! No one came, they abandoned me. Left me out here to rot. The harsh exterior of the words startled Lily and caused her to take a few steps back. But I knew you would come, Lily. If she was being completely honest, the auburn haired young woman was beginning to panic, she didn’t know what to do - she sure as hell wouldn’t be able to fight back.. Not against a friend. Though she expected that was why Danny was here. Sweet, kind Lily.. You always did care. It’s a shame really.. Lily didn’t quite know what to do, she was frozen in her place, hands didn’t move from her sides as she watched the male flick his wrist. She didn’t hear any words leave his mouth, though he seemed as though her life began to move along in slow motion as she watched the green light move through the air toward her. “Lily get down!” She just heard the male behind her shout, his footsteps crashing down behind her. Though she felt it was too late. The light connected with her chest, knocking the wind out of her. Tears began to glaze over her eyes as she peered through the clearing toward the male whom she had considered a friend - someone she had wanted to be in her baby’s life. Peter Pettigrew disappeared from the clearing, leaving a wounded Lily and her young companion behind.
Emerald orbs moved to settle on her chest as she slowly dropped to the ground, Danny’s arms finding her on her way down to take some of the force away. Deep red pools spilled from the woman’s torso as she blinked quickly through the tears. Oddly, she didn’t feel any pain - all she felt was dread. She knew she was going to die.. There was no escaping that, but she didn’t fear losing her own life - she feared the loss of her child’s. “Danny.. You need to.. Get me to a.. Hospital. The baby..” Lily spoke, her voice raspy as she peered up at the young male. “Please.. You have to save my baby.” As soon as she spoke, Danny scooped the young woman up into his arms gently and took off out of the clearing and back into the woods. He ran through the trees and toward the edge of town. Sometimes he was thankful for the no apparation barrier that was set in place around the town, yet this was definitely not one of those moments. “You’re going to be okay, Lily just hold on okay.. Just a little farther.” He spoke quickly, panic laced through his voice as he finally set his eyes on the edge of the town. “Tell.. Tell James I’m sorry.” The redhead breathed as her eyelids flickered shut for a moment. Danny shook the girl in his arms awake and continued toward the town. “You can tell him yourself.” He responded. “You’re not dying today.”
The young Gryffindor finally reached the edge of the town and pulled out his wand. Without a moment of hesitation he apparated them to the hospital wing and shouted for the nearest healer. “Please, you have to help her. She was attacked. “Not me..” Lily spoke softly, breathlessly. “The baby.. Please.” More blood pooled from the wounds on her chest as her head lulled back, almost losing consciousness. “My baby.. Save my baby.” She spoke as she was placed down on a bed. Danny was quickly shoved back from the room and bolted out of the hospital to find James as soon as he could. The auburn haired young woman felt her shirt being torn from her body then screamed out as she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. Following a few more moments of pain came a cry, making the young woman open her eyes and squint through the tears. “He’s going to be okay..” The healer spoke before holding the baby closer. Lily’s gaze cleared, her eyes softening as she gazed at the baby. “He.. Harry.. My boy..” The auburn haired young woman smiled as her tears finally spilled down her cheeks before she closed her eyes and her heart rate slowed until it finally came to rest. She could finally rest, being content in the fact that her son was alive, even if she wasn’t.
