The graphic novel I'm writing, Minthe & Persephone: Underworld's Most Wanted (temporary title!!)

What is it about?

Ok here's my logline so far:

Minthe, a nymph with a bad attitude, is sent to the underworld by Demeter as a companion for her lonely daughter, Persephone, Queen of the Underworld.

Along the way we will meet a colorful cast of characters from the pantheon including Hermes, Hecate, Demeter, Hades, Zeus, etc. (No spoilers!!) All while watching Minthe and Persephone unpacking all their past traumas, going from enemies to lovers, and going on adventures in the Underworld.

So essentially she's like a mail-order bestie and/or girlfriend yeah that's right they gay af!! We are so back guys!!

Why are you creating this story?

I am sick and tired of seeing these bland vanilla Persephone x Hades romantic retellings (Lore Olympus among others) it's been done to absolute DEATH already, so I'm providing a fresh new perspective on that story from not only a queer standpoint, but from a feminist standpoint as well. I do not claim that my version is 100% accurate to mythology or "better" than anybody else's. It's my own interpretation/take on the story. I did not make this with any malicious intent or anything. If you love Hades (the mythological figure) this project might not be for you. He's an antagonist and Persephone's rapist in my story. That's all just my interpretation. I don't claim that my Hades is the "correct" or most "accurate" version. He's not. My story is fictional. He's a fictional character. If you're bothered by it then block/ignore me?? Don't like don't read. It's that simple.

Hermes and Minthe are so iconic and funny bro clown on clown violence!! I can't wait for you to meet them :') They are always arguing about who is shorter (It's Minthe by just a millimeter, but Hermes wears shoes so it looks like he's an inch taller)

Hermes: I used to think I was the shortest in the pantheon...

i feel like a lot of ppl forget that even though "the rape of persephone" is referring to her kidnapping, that doesn't mean there was no rape involved at all—she was forced to marry a man, and that probably meant consummating the marriage with said man to make the marriage legit. idk i see tons of ppl try to downplay what perse and demeter went through by saying that it was normal back then but like—that doesn't make it right now!

yeah that bugs me too sometimes haha mostly just when I see the argument "well TECHNICALLY 'rape' meant kidnapping / forced marriage back then!" as a defense of Hades' character and it's like guys..... she was still forced into a marriage against her will 💀😭 like I get addressing the language differences and cultural contexts when examining old text like ancient myth, that's a necessary process to the whole thing, but it doesn't really work as a defense for Hades when the original story was still written as a tragedy with Demeter and Kore being the central victims and when he still invaded a young girl's autonomy, sexual assault or no.

but y'know, it's all about "fuck the patriarchy" until everyone's favorite blue patriarch is the one getting called out for grooming and abusive behavior oop- 💅

I've been in character design hell bc I can't decide if Persephone should be green or blue

I'm also conflicted about Persephone's whole ensemble because it's not historically accurate for a Greek myth retelling.

But the knee length black boots are SO ICONICCC she is SO mother!! But it's not accurate!! I tried putting her in sandals and it just doesn't HIT the same way and idk what to do...
