“Oh, I know, right.”
“But thanks. You don’t look bad yourself, Charles.”
“Egotistic, but that’s the price you have to pay for being Kirby Reed,”“Charles? Pushing your luck, cutie.”
"Of course. Always. It's not so easy, but I try."
"Oh, come on, you know I'm just joking."

Kirby nodded her head, but didn’t say anything. She didn’t really need to. As he walked off to the payphone, she turned herself and walked in the different direction. It looked a bit like.. a silent movie. Where nobody talked, and people just tried to show their emotions. But if it would be a silent movie, they would be probably arguing, or something, then turning around and heading off in the different directions. Did people who played in silent movies ever think about doing something like.. silent movie at airport? Or maybe they already made some movie about it and she just hadn’t seen it yet? Wow, wow, wow, what was that? A total random thing. She shook her head, smiling gently to herself, as she walked. It looked like.. people didn’t notice her. Like she was just colorless and invisible. Why did she thinks so? Because they were all the time shoving her, accidentally. They could at least say ‘excuse me’.
She suddenly stopped. ‘Excuse me.’ When did she ever say that to people? Did she ever say that to anyone? No. Because life in Woodsboro was.. tough, and she felt then like she was.. whatever..a queen? Like she didn’t have to apologize for anything. She never did. Not then. Then she shoved people whenever she wanted, snapped at the unpopular ones and.. and was a part of Trevor’s group. Biggest mistake in her life. Now she could admit it. She knew it, few years ago. She knew that she was making that mistake and it was all the time bigger and bigger, but then.. she couldn’t admit it. She couldn’t just take a step forward and say ‘Hey, I’m Kirby Reed. I’m a bad person and I know it. I’m sorry for it.’ Now.. she could, but she wasn’t going to. Hmm..why? Because they were at the freaking airport. And.. since she never, through the years said ‘sorry’ to people, why would they respect her right now? Even though they didn’t know her, they didn’t know her past, she felt like they did, and like they were trying to show her how it felt.
Luggage. Damn. She started walking, fast. It wasn’t fast enough to be count to running. It took her a while to find the bags, but once she did it, she smiled gently and walked away from the crowd, who was still trying to find own bags. She dragged the luggage. It was heavy, but well..she tried. And finally, finally she stood next to a big window, with all the bags around her. Now she just waited for him. She glanced few times around, but since she didn’t notice him, she sat down, on her big bag and crossed her arms, sighing. He was probably going to come in few minutes. If not.. she would have to go and look for him, try to find him. Sitting there, alone, on that bag made her think about many things. But.. she really tried to block the bad memories, she didn’t want to see again.. all those.. bright, crying eyes, pale faces of people she bullied.. She didn’t want to hear their voices, their screams.. And.. she didn’t want to see Trevor. Never again. Not in person, not in her head, not in her dreams, not in videos. She just didn’t want. No. Never, ever.
When she saw Charlie coming, she quickly stood up. They were going to leave the airport in few, and she just honestly couldn’t wait. She was looking so forward. When she heard the question, she just nodded her head, but again, didn’t say anything. She was all the time turning her head, trying to find the exit. “So we can go?” She smiled at him, as she grabbed the hold of few bags. She wasn’t going to let him carry more. He had still that..injury. And it wasn’t going to just disappear, yet. Since the knife was so sharp. No. Shit. No. Kirby shook her head, trying to get a rid of that moment, of that scene.
Charlie nodded his head, and looked outside the window. Sleep urged him, and he even felt dizzy. Again. “Everything is going to be okay from now on. No fights, no stabbing.” The last two words were somewhat chucked out on accident. Though he meant it, the topic if knives entering stomachs was a tender topic to share, since they’d both crossed each other in the department. “No talk of the past either. I don’t wanna think about then.” Charlie assumed he sounded bossy, but it was so worth it to know the two of them were going to end up okay. He’d lied, because he didn’t know how things would turn up, but he assured her. It was all that mattered.
Three hours passed, long, long hours. But in the end, they were up in a hotel, third floor. Charlie was standing at the balcony, looking over the edge. How many seconds would it take to jump? How many to push someone else? Bitter, malicious thoughts were unstoppable. He was just glad Kirby couldn’t read minds. Don had offered to pay for the hotel, too. Thankful for that, they’d gone inside, he’d counted his movies, and now here he was. Reminiscing. How many bones would break when someone hit the ground? How many screams would be heard? How many would care? How many seconds to the hospital? How many to the morgue?
Were these… suicidal thoughts? How could he even? How DARE he even? He had the one girl he’d fantasied about since the 6th grade with him, in Hawaii, and they were… alone. It was anything any boy could ever muster with their imagination. But something was unsatisfactory. Something was bothering him. The past. “Why did I do it?” He mumbled, running his tongue over his bottom lip, “Why am I such a freak? A stain, even?” His words were cut short, not that they weren’t already inaudible, and he turned around. “Do we have Halloween Resurrection?” Charlie didn’t know why such worry was coming from a horrid film, but it was there.
Charlie rubbed his head, glancing around at the room. One bed, one couch, one bathroom. One, why was that such a common number? Why did his head ache? It was the human touch thing as far as he could assume. He was so close to Kirby that it was actually HURTING him to stay. Made him sick. He’d showered and felt fine. Put on a white t-shirt and HOUSE OF WAX boxers and felt fine. Did his hair, ate and was fine. What was wrong? His stomach hurt. “Baby,” He whined, glancing at Kirby with soft, yet lifeless, eyes. “Will you… like, not… stab me again?” A smile and then his eyes shut. Everything shut or shut down or SOMETHING, because everything was black. But the smile never left.
Charlie woke up to a optimistic sun, a ambiguous feeling – or maybe that was his hair reacting to the heat – and he was on the bed. Kirby was next to him. He wasn’t dead, nothing hurt, and his hair was mildly frizzy. Charlie smiled, slightly, and sat up. No throbbing, not an inch. He lifted up the shirt he wore, and the scar was there, the stiches over top the sliced skin – but other than that, he felt and looked fine. Other than the eerie, long haired thing, Charlie… WAS ordinary. He shook Kirby awake without a moment of disinclination. Charlie liked having him be the first thing he saw in the morning. Was that… okay? Didn’t matter, because he was done changing for society. It was enough his horror obsession had deemed him made for the bully’s target – nothing else would be compromised. Nothing else would drive him to insanity. “Waaaaake up, we have to go apartment and job searching.” Charlie was about to shake her once more, but recoiled his hand instead. Did he want to waste his first real, full day in Hawaii being tedious? He shook his head, and then reworded himself. “No, that’s a lie. Wake up and go put a bathing suit on. We’ll go down to the beach or the nearest water park, go for breakfast, go see a movie, go for lunch, and then back to the beach and or water park. Day planned. Let’s go.” He stood from the bed, rubbed his forehead incase of a pain attack, and nothing.
He was fine.
Charlie tore the covers off of Kirby, tossed them on the floor, and headed for the bathroom. As far as he was concerned, his hair was much more important than Kirby’s. His was untamable; Kirby’s was. Therefore, he got first dibs on bathroom. Whether that was spoken of or not.
There was no need to say anything. He probably knew that she fully agreed. Of course, no stabbing, no violence, no past. And just nothing from the old life. Nothing but love and horror movies. Those things could stay. No. Those things had to stay. Kirby nodded her head, as a warm smile appeared on her face. But still, she didn't say anything. Even though she got those few hours of sleep, she felt tired. Maybe not tired, because of the trip. Tired, because of the past. But after next few hours, she wouldn't need to worry about that. She could even start forgetting it now.
As they entered the room, Kirby threw herself onto the bed. Soft. Oh god. She already loved so many things about the new life. She didn't even stand up again to change clothes. She was too tired to do that, plus, she didn't want to leave the bed. It was more comfortable than that one at home. Or rather at that place that was once called home. "I claim this big pillow." She muttered, but wasn't sure if he heard it. Then she just kicked her shoes off her feet, letting them hit the floor. After a moment, she sighed, deeply, hugged the pillow and closed her eyes.
Kirby knew what was going on around her. She could hear things, everywhere. People talking somewhere on the corridor – probably in front of the door – , little kids screaming and crying. The sleep was coming, slowly. It was going to be a good, calm night. Without any accidents. Without any murders, disasters. It was just going to be like few years ago. – And probably even better. – She heard his voice, and it was the last thing she could hear, before the sleep completly got her.
The night was really good. The dreams too. And this time it wasn't just one, big one. This time she had many. Some of them were past. But not the evil past. Fixed past. She could see in her head, in her dreams how things should be. She saw Trevor, standing on some stage, with a microphone, saying sorry to Charlie, to Robbie, to everyone. She could see Jill, throwing the knife away. She could see Jenny Randall and Marnie Cooper alive. The other dreams she had weren't so many. But they were really good and very similar to that Darla one. In most of them, the same little girl walked towards her, to show her something. And it was always something new. Was it the future? Kirby still didn't know. But she looked forward to see, if the things were actually going to happen.
The last dream she had was special. And probably her favorite. It inculded the past, but also the parts of future. It looked like.. no matter what would happen in their life before. They would end up on Hawaii. It was like their destiny. And maybe the past didn't matter? Since it couldn't change anything anymore.
The same voice she heard few hours ago when she fell asleep woke her up. Charlie. She smiled gently, but didn't stand up. She wanted to stay in bed for few more minutes and just finish the last, good dream. It ended at some beach. But she wanted to know what was going to happen next. "Five more minutes, motheeer.." She muttered, covering her head with the big pillow she claimed. It didn't help, at all. She could still hear his voice. She loved it, yes, but right now, she just wanted to sleep. Well, it looked like she was not allowed to. When she heard the plans for the day, she smiled brighter, but didn't stand up. "Awesome. " It was the only one thing she could mutter, before the covers were brutally pulled off her. No way. No more minutes. Kirby threw the pillow at Charlie, and laughed softly. "Okay then! You win."
She got up, to run to the bathroom, but he was faster. She could only hear him closing the door. Damn it! Now, she had a chance to sleep for five more minutes, like she wanted to, but she doubted that she could fall asleep again. Once she stood up, she was not going to sleep again. Or maybe.. But she wouldn't have the same dream. So there was no point anymore. She walked to the bathroom door and knocked softly. "Okay then. You win, again. But tomorrow, I claim the bathroom first. Dibs!" She crossed her arms, giggling softly.
Kirby Reed.
All right, Sir! I’m very okay with it.
Okay bye now.
Oh, and, yes, we’re going to go see Darkchylde in theaters.Okay, bye now, again.
Sounds great. And when we get home, we're going to watch My Bloody Valentine and eat jellybeans, because yes.
Okay, bye, bye now.
Kirby Reed.
You’re my valentine.
Okay bye now.
All right, Sir! I'm very okay with it.
Okay bye now.
Oh where has my ignorance gone? |imgonnabenext|
Kirby didn’t focus on anything. She was too tired after the last 24 hours of her life. But now everything could just be better and better, right? Her eyelids slowly got heavy. She yawned once, then shut her eyes and hugged his arm tighter, smiling gently. For few minutes she could still hear the sounds around. Conversations, some people clapping their hands, happily, someone crying – probably because of fear of heights. And then silence, but only for a moment. After few minutes she could hear familiar voices. But not around. Nobody was really talking. Whatever was happening now, was happening in her head.
A room. Big, white, beautiful room. Wooden floor and light blue, long curtains. Fresh – smelling, white bedding, and that lovely silence around. Kirby woke up. She didn’t feel tired, at all. Not like every morning. She felt happy, even though she had no idea where she was. Maybe someone kidnapped Charlie and her and locked them in some.. imagined place? In some new, beautiful world full of happiness and horror movies? That would be great. She stood up, and glanced around, before walking towards the big door. Was she alone in the house, or was there someone else? She didn’t hear any noises. Just the same, wonderful silence. It didn’t make her sad, at all. She had that feeling.. that something was going to happen, sooner or later. Something good. The house was big. On two floors. Kirby started walking around the second floor, opening every door, walking into every room. Everything was so different. All rooms had some special, beautiful colors, another, lovely smell and different colors of the wooden floor. Yes, the floor was wooden everywhere. And warm. Kirby walked towards the last door and smiled gently, before opening and walking in. That room was special. Very special. No walls, no floor. Just green grass. Soft, fresh green grass and balcony. She glanced around, and the smile on her face became bigger and bigger. It couldn’t be really happening, could it? Fresh air, blue sky, warm sun. In the distance, not so very far away, she could hear the ocean. Waves. It was better than the silence. She didn’t want to leave that room. Or garden - balcony, or whatever it was. It was amazing. Perfect. Too perfect for someone who always watched horror movies and wanted a birthday party in dark woods, camping, for one day or two, running around with flashlights and trying to scare everyone around. How amazing would that be, anyways?
Suddenly she heard a girly voice. A scream. But not full of fear. Full of happiness and excitement. She didn’t know why, but she laughed. That voice wasn’t familiar, at all. But it was cute. And then she heard another voice. Someone laughed. Wait.. was it.. Charlie? Kirby wasn’t sure, but she wanted to know what was going on. She walked slowly out of the room and headed downstairs. The voices were louder and louder, she was coming closer and closer. And then.. there she was. After walking down the last few steps. Another big door. Made of wood. Like almost everything in that house. She wasn’t sure what to do. Open or not. But she was just so curious and the voices, the persons in the room were so happy. She felt that she needed to know what was going on. She grabbed the handle and pulled the doors open.
Another surprise. Another beautiful room. But this time – not empty. Charlie sat on the floor, opposite some little girl. They were playing.. monopoly? “Daaad, you can’t be here, this is my hotel!” The little girl shouted, then laughed. Dad? Kirby glanced around, and didn’t even listen to Charlie’s response to what the kid said. Who was it? And why did she call him Dad? Was it – .. no, it couldn’t be. Or..could it? Kirby walked into the room. But they didn’t even notice her. Maybe that was better? So she walked around, like a ghost, invisible soul and focused on everything important. On every photo she saw. And then, she heard it. She heard the girl’s name. Charlie called her Darla. Darla.
Kirby turned herself, quickly and glanced at them. And they finally noticed her. Just like she just appeared. Just like she wasn’t..invisible anymore. “Mom!” The little girl shouted, stood up and ran towards Kirby, with a huge smile on her face.
“Come on, we gotta get off plane.” Kirby opened her eyes, when she heard his voice, so close. And there she was. On the plane. Not in any beautiful house. Not yet. But where was Darla? What just happened? Who was Darla? Their daughter? And why Charlie ask about that name? Was that dream some kind of a hint? Hint about future? She didn’t say anything, though. She didn’t want to start that subject right now, right there.
After the kiss, after he ran away, she laughed. Oh yay, let’s play a game. – She thought. Since she got a lot of sleep, and didn’t feel tired anymore, she was ready for everything. And she wasn’t going to let him go. Since it was a war. A little, lovely war. She followed him, trying to run as fast as she could, but people blocked her way, all the time. “Come on, come on, hurry.. ” She muttered.
When she finally got off the plane, she ran towards him. Then poked his arm and smirked. “Gotcha.”
Charlie smiled, not making an attempt to try and run. Besides, even if he had, he’d of collided with the bigger man who had walked beside him, in search for something. He didn’t bother asking if the man wanted help, because he wasn’t that kind of person just yet. He poked Kirby on the cheek before she could run away like he had, and let his hand fall back to his side, already forming the game plan. “We’ll get out of here twice as fast if we do this,” He paused, for effect, taking a glance at the forever circling luggage carrier. “I’m going to head over to the payphone, and yield a taxi down for us and have them direct us to the cheapest, but not littered with bugs, hotel. You get our stuff, and I’ll help you with it when I come back.” His stomach made another inhumane noise, and he tried to tame it with the strained look he plastered on his face. His eyes felt heavy, and his hair was greasy. He was pretty sure there was a streak of blood still stained on the brown strands. The thought gave him a cold chill, but he made himself look brave.
‘I should’ve done this… long before.’ And then pain, and then blackness, and then this. All of it came hurling down at him, in an unforgiving spiral. He could’ve saved himself the pain in his stomach by wording it, ‘I’ve gotta call someone’ or something. But maybe if he had, he wouldn’t be here now. But was the horrible pain that fluttered in his head and stomach worth it? Charlie didn’t have to think twice about that. Of course it was. Kirby was worth anything and everything. If this were a SAW movie and he was Eddie from VI and she was Simone, he’d cut his arm off, hand it to her through the gate, and let her win. Because that’s what people did when they loved each other. And he really, really loved Kirby.
Charlie tapped her softly on the nose again, before turning around and heading for the payphone in the corner. It had been years since Charlie had seen one that wasn’t beat down by careless teens. On the way there, he passed things. A stand filled with a lot of food that would make him throw up, but would taste so food going down, and a magazine stand. Next to it was a mirror. He didn’t mean to stop, but his feet just quit moving. His brown hair was ragged, twisted with bed head. His shoes were muddy, and were giving him a rash at the edges of his ankles where his socks should be. Charlie hated socks, and refused to wear them, so the lines were nearly permanent. His shirt and pants were cleaner, but wrinkled everywhere. His face was pale, his hands, too. Everything about him was… creepy. Charlie realized change was impossible, because this was the kid he’d always be. The psychopath who ran Cinema Club. That was Charlie’s inescapable title.
Moving on, with watering eyes, he moved from the mirror, trying to forget the unsteady reflection he’d saw, and towards the payphone. He just wanted to get out of here and sleep. He just wanted sleep. He made his way down to the payphone, inserted 50 cents into the slot, and dialed the company’s number he’d had memorized since he was eight, when he ran away. He’d just… gone away. Charlie got the phonebook, called for a taxi from this number, and left. Nobody noticed until day thirty two. And by then… there was no remorse. But he’d gone home. Now, now… now he wasn’t going to go home. Not now, not ever. When they picked up, he explained the situation, asked for Don, gave them their location, and slammed the phone back into it’s placement. Charlie groggily rubbed his eyes with both index fingers. With eyes shut, he remembered too much.
‘Charlie Walker and Jillian Roberts convicted of savage ‘GHOSTFACE’ Murders.’ ‘What has bullying got us in society? Psychopaths?’ ‘Fake or Fact – horror geek turns mad? Hear the story here!’ ‘An interview with Charlie Walker’s mother on the TONIGHT SHOW!’ All the headlines, all the news. All the deaths, all the funerals, all the scats, all the everything. It hurt him. Daily. “My son was raised in a healthy environment, I don’t know what could’ve done this to him.” “My brother always showed signs of being a psycho.” All of it, the words, the monotone expressions, it was all still there no matter what state he ran to. He’d minded his OWN damn business for seventeen years of his life, just wanting to watch horror in peace, and he was driven to the point where murder seemed reasonable. Now, where he stood, it was a foolish thought. Charlie never should’ve obliged, but he had. Jill twisted words, and her own words were the easiest.
Charlie made his way back to Kirby, “We’ve got a ride.” He informed her with a brisk nod of his head, and a faint smile lingering on his lips. Despite the pain of it all, he could deem himself happy. For the moment, at least. All he had to do was see the house, or hear the ocean, or anything. The future was bright. “Have any dreams on the airplane?” Charlie inquired, poking her arm before reaching out and snapping up one of his own bags. He could indistinctly read PROM NIGHT through the thinned fabric of the bag. These were his horror movies. Charlie knew he’d have to count them all when they got to the hotel, make sure she packed them all, and that they weren’t missing any.
Kirby nodded her head, but didn't say anything. She didn't really need to. As he walked off to the payphone, she turned herself and walked in the different direction. It looked a bit like.. a silent movie. Where nobody talked, and people just tried to show their emotions. She heard that he called her ‘Kirby Walker’, but she didn’t say anything. She didn’t mind. She liked it. Maybe she was going to be called it in the future? Maybe she was going to become Miss Kirby Melissa Walker? Well, that sounded perfect. She stood next to him, with hands in her pockets, a bit nervous. She was worried. Yes. Because, what if the police was already looking for them? What if the people at the airport knew about it and were going to report them, or something like that? That would ruin everything. Police would come. Take them. Lock them in jail, or in a psychiatric hospital or something and never let them see each other again. Why did Kirby even think like that? So many negative thoughts. Too many. But there was nothing to be really worried about. Everything was planned. Everything had to work perfectly. Nothing was going to fail. Not when two, crazy movie - geeks planned it. After watching around..fifteen thousands action movies, they knew how to save themselves.
People at the airport seemed to just care less. They didn’t know them. They didn’t know anything about stabbing and running away. Some of them even smiled when they walked by. Now. Really nothing to be worried about.
“I won’t surprise you much.” Kirby said, with a small grin on her face, as she glanced at him. “I love you too. And I bet I love you even more. Yes. You heard that, Charlie Walker. I love you more.” She said, loudly. It felt good to be finally free. Of course.. free in the positive meaning of the word. Not free alone, alone. Free, alone, with him. Far away from everyone. She couldn’t stop thinking about it. About the joy. About the new, perfect life.
She loved how he just held her by hand all the time. Just like he was afraid of losing her, or something. Well, he wasn’t going to. She wasn’t planning to go anywhere without him. Forever together means forever together. And nothing can change it. Obviously not even few wounds after a knife.
Waiting for the flight, for the plane took forever. Only few hours, but Kirby felt like she had been just waiting for like thirteen days.
Walking into the plane was the best part of the day. Everything was going to change after few hours. She couldn’t stop mentioning that. Even though she was doing it all the time in her head. When she heard his question, she giggled, softly. “I don’t mind, Love. If you like watching the sky, you can take the window seat, I’m just going to sleep.” She told him, smiling again. Why couldn’t she stop smiling when she looked at him? It was just something about him. It made her so happy. He was so.. Charlie. And that was exactly what she loved.
When they found their seats, she smiled once again. Of course she wasn’t going to fight about the window seat, since she didn’t even want it that much. She waited for him to sit down first. Then she took a seat next to him and quickly hugged his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.
Charlie took the window seat, only because he didn’t want Kirby to change her mind on using him as a pillow. He just wanted to know she was there by touch, and not snoring or heavy breathing that occurred when asleep; but the comforting feel of her body heat against his for the whole ride there. Charlie wasn’t afraid of heights, either, and he didn’t know if she was – but just to be sure, he did that for that reason, too. The only thing Charlie was scared of consisted of three things –previously four. Losing Kirby, losing his hair and human touch. Heights, Death, Killing weren’t there, not ever. Trevor was once, when he had the reins on Charlie’s life and treated him like garbage; but Trevor was dead. Maybe it still hadn’t settled in that Jill had pulled the trigger instead of himself – like planned. He should’ve known then that… that she wasn’t going to stick the plan. He could’ve saved himself the scar on his chest.
With the thought of that, his free hand reached up and put it over the scar. Remembering Jill like that made him hurt, remembering kissing Jill was even worse. Kirby still didn’t know that; Charlie still hadn’t told her. He felt no need to bring the past to life, especially not now, but the guilt was settling in more and more as the silence was as common and air between them. A first it was pleasant, just the sound of her breathing, the other passengers playing games on iPods and iPads they’ll spend the rest of their lives paying off; but it became eerie. Nobody was speaking. Charlie tilted his head over, resting it on Kirby’s softly. The least he could do was sleep, and hope a dream of death or the future life would come instead of the one of Jill seducing him. He didn’t like that one.
Sleep never came. His eyes never stayed closed for long; and by time he felt tired enough to actually fall into a slumber; it was time to go. He’d been blocking out everything the whole time, in honesty. If Kirby had spoke, he had ignored her. If the plane had caught on fire, he would’ve ignored it. He was just drowning in utter thought. All he wanted to do was forget about the past, since they were here, in Hawaii; but easier said than done. He stood up from the seat, realizing how sore his back was. Maybe it was the stress that had been weighing him down, but once he cracked it, he felt relieved. “Kirbz,” Charlie whispered to her, shaking her awake. He kissed her on the tip of the nose before shaking her softly, “Come on, we gotta get off the plane and get our junk.”
He wanted to rephrase that, since his gentleman goal wasn’t going to be easy to climb to; but now wasn’t the time. He just wanted to find a hotel for the night, and actually sleep. Charlie felt groggy, but Kirby looked so cute, he forced himself to hold his eyes open. She was a reason; he could stare at her features for days without blinking and not care the least. “Time to go,” He reached for her hand, entwining their fingers. His stomach growled, and he laughed at the sensation, when was the last time he’d eaten? Charlie had nearly forgotten he was human. “I love you so, so much.” Charlie muttered, stopping where he was walking for a second. Since they’d been so far back, nobody was behind them; so he didn’t care. He put his cold, shaking hands on her neck, and tilted her head up the slightest. The height difference between Kirby and Charlie wasn’t large, but if he wanted to kiss her first, on surprise – he had to do as he was. Not that he minded. Charlie pressed his lips softly to hers, their foreheads meeting delicately. “And I want you to know,” He then whispered, once pulling away, “You’re it.” Charlie had planned on running, but after slightly tapping the side of her cheek, declaring Tag, he darted off down the aisle and for the departure door that would lead into the airport.
Kirby didn't focus on anything.
She didn't feel tired, at all. She didn't hear any noises. Just the same, wonderful silence. It didn't make her sad, at all. It couldn't be really happening, could it? Fresh air, blue sky, warm sun. In the distance, not so very far away, she could hear the ocean. Waves. It was better than the silence. She didn't want to leave that room.
She didn't know why, but she laughed. That voice wasn't familiar, at all. But it was cute. And then she heard another voice. Someone laughed. Wait.. was it.. Charlie? Kirby wasn't sure, but she wanted to know what was going on. She walked slowly out of the room and headed downstairs. The voices were louder and louder, she was coming closer and closer. And then.. there she was. After walking down the last few steps. Another big door. Made of wood. Like almost everything in that house. She wasn't sure what to do.
They were playing.. monopoly? "Daaad, you can't be here, this is my hotel!" The little girl shouted, then laughed. Dad? Kirby glanced around, and didn't even listen to Charlie's response to what the kid said. Who was it? And why did she call him Dad? Was it – .. no, it couldn't be. Or..could it? Kirby walked into the room. But they didn't even notice her. Maybe that was better? So she walked around, like a ghost, invisible soul and focused on everything important. On every photo she saw. And then, she heard it. She heard the girl's name. Charlie called her Darla. Darla.
Kirby turned herself, quickly and glanced at them. And they finally noticed her. Just like she just appeared. Just like she wasn't..invisible anymore. "Mom!" The little girl shouted, stood up and ran towards Kirby, with a huge smile on her face.
"Come on, we gotta get off plane." Kirby opened her eyes, when she heard his voice, so close. And there she was. On the plane. Not in any beautiful house. Not yet. But where was Darla? What just happened? Who was Darla? Their daughter? And why Charlie ask about that name? Was that dream some kind of a hint? Hint about future? She didn't say anything, though. She didn't want to start that subject right now, right there.
After the kiss, after he ran away, she laughed. Oh yay, let's play a game. – She thought. Since she got a lot of sleep, and didn't feel tired anymore, she was ready for everything. And she wasn't going to let him go. Since it was a war. A little, lovely war. She followed him, trying to run as fast as she could, but people blocked her way, all the time. "Come on, come on, hurry.. " She muttered.
When she finally got off the plane, she ran towards him. Then poked his arm and smirked. "Gotcha."

“I think it wasn’t just a dream.” Kirby muttered, trying to focus on the road. It was difficult, since his dream, or maybe..premonition was more interesting. For a second – Kirby wanted to just stop the car and talk about the future, but she didn’t know when the next flight was supposed to be. She didn’t want to stay in Woodsboro any longer. It was enough. Those few – more than few years. It was so enough. She hated that place, she hated the disasters, she hated how people could be so careless. Everything was going to change. To be hopefully..better. She drove a bit faster than before. The memories made her want to leave this place just now. Not after fifteen, thirty minutes. Now. Of course, she also had good memories, but not so many. For the next few minutes, she just locked herself in her head. Since Charlie wasn’t saying anything and seemed busy. She wasn’t sure what he was doing. And she wasn’t even going to ask. He would probably show her it soon.
“We’re moving.” She heard a sharp and cold female voice. What was going on? Why moving? Why now? Why? Everything was so good. Why change? Obviously she didn’t want to leave her hometown. She was a little, four years old girl, who had a lot of friends in Bridgeport, Connecticut. But mom was cold, and behaved like she knew what she was doing. Kirby’s father didn’t say anything about it. He didn’t really care. Nothing new. Mom always decided. Sometimes it was okay, but sometimes..it was horrible. – Like that time. How could she just want to find a new house in some random town and leave everything good behind? Why couldn’t she just find a job in Bridgeport, or close to it? Why did she want to move so far away? Okay, it took only an hour if they were going by plane, but it was still too far away for little Kirby.
The next few days in the old house were sad. Saying goodbye to friends, saying goodbye to the neighbours. Kirby cried, her father was sad, her mother was even sad. But she didn’t change her mind, though. We’re moving and end of the subject.
Speeding time. Speeding time. And boom, Woodsboro, Maryland. It was a creepy place, in four - years -old - girl’s opinion. She was too used to the old and good Bridgeport. She didn’t want to just start a new life, even though she was young.
But after all, it wasn’t so bad. She grew up, fast. Met amazing people. Met good friends.
After few more years, not everything was so good. Killers attacked, people cried, hid in their houses. Kirby’s friends were hurt. She wasn’t sure if they were still alive or not. After that night she only knew one thing. – She loved Charlie Walker. Who was first only her friend. But after stabbing her.. something happened. Of course, she loved him before, but didn’t even know it. She always saw him as a friend. But when he stabbed her, the feelings just explode.
Now..everything was over. For them. They didn’t have to be stuck in a trap. They didn’t have to be scared anymore. No one could find them, no one could ever hurt them again.
Bam. Airport. How did it happen? So quickly? She was too focused on the memories, she didn’t even notice when she stopped in front of the building. She shook her head, trying to get a rid of the thoughts. Even though some of them were nice.
“Wow..” She muttered. This place wasn’t new. She had been there many times before. But now, it was special. Because it was probably the last time when she would see it. When she would walk in and look around. She wasn’t going to miss that place. Even though nothing bad happened there, it was a part of the bloody Woodsboro.
Kirby got out of the car. Coldness. She always felt cold at the airports. She didn’t even know why. Maybe because she was always so excited? Or always so scared? She crossed her arms over her chest and waited. Waited for him. She wasn’t going to do anything without Charlie Walker.
Charlie took her hand in his, tucking the notepad away in his back pockets. He just hoped when he pulled it out, she wouldn’t jab another knife into his stomach. The thought sounded silly, and brought a faint laugh to his lips. But the cold took the sound and twisted it into a cough. Hawaii just couldn’t come fast enough, could it? Warm weather, oceans, beach houses. Yes„ they’d have to work for all of that, he didn’t expect it to be dropped at his feet by any means, but he wouldn’t stop. Not ever. Not unless Kirby wanted to. And then he grabbed luggage next. He handed Kirby some, but took most himself. He wasn’t letting go of her hand, either. He’d been to plenty of airports, the one in Maine topped them all – but the Woodsboro one wasn’t all too bad. With a few shops in a corner for people waiting for flights, a lot of benches against the extremely white walls. Signs everywhere. Charlie knew how to work airports after moving from another country to Augustus to Woodsboro. He approached the friendliest looking worker he could find at the stands. “Charlie and Kirby Walker.” He stated, hoping Kirby wouldn’t notice. When he’d entered the purchase, impulse struck him – and by time he noticed he’d clicked confirm. Charlie hoped Kirby wouldn’t mind.
Following instructions – apparently it was much different going from having tickets in hand to having bought them online, and he was told where to go, what to say, and how to do this – Charlie and Kirby made their way to the security check. “Better not have that knife on you,” Charlie joked softly, whispering it to her and giving her small hand a light squeeze. Charlie picked everything up, realizing how heavy it was. Had she really carried all of this out to her car? Guilt galore flooded him; he should’ve been able to help in some way. But he didn’t say anything about it, just loaded all of it on the moving strip of black rubber, and ushered Kirby in front of him – still hand locked – to go through the detector first. He was going to start cleaning up his act with her now. Less heavy drinking. Less time spent watching horror movies. Although he’d watched the max of two a day, he needed to spend more time getting their life in order. Maybe once things settled down – he could go back to up all night with Night of the Living Dead and the films that followed in its footsteps. Less time spent wallowing in self-pity. He had to straighten up for Kirby; and he was willing to do it. Charlie would become a somewhat gentlemen. Treat her like she’s the most valuable thing in the world, because she really, truly is. And she will always be. Charlie just couldn’t wait for the day he could wake up next to her, and look over at her beautiful face and whisper, ‘We’ve made it.’ Because they will, they really will. They really can.
The lines were long – everything was long, but Charlie didn’t complain. Charlie didn’t even talk. He felt no need. The silence that had settled was assuring. The pair didn’t have to speak to let one another know they were there, because presences like so could just be felt. They waited through the security check. The line to get onto the flight. Flight 415 to Hawaii. Departure 6:07pm. Right now it was 5:59. Only few more minutes before they would be let on. Only few more minutes before they would be off to a new start. Seconds felt like hours. Minutes months. But finally, after silently sitting and doing the oddest things individually, “Flight 415 will now be boarding.” Charlie stood, and took the blonde by the hand once more. It was a soft hand she had, and felt it was molded for his hand. He liked the feeling, and squeezed it lightly. She was his. He was hers. Nothing else would ever come between that. Not revenge, not cowardice. Nothing. Charlie lead the both of them from the waiting area, passed a few people and then found the line they’d been waiting for. It was short, people where getting on quickly. Most of them even looked impatient. Fools.
“I love you,” Charlie finally broke the assuring muteness, “Don’t you ever forget that.” That was for the times they would fight. Nobody got a long perfect, he knew this, and maybe they’d argue. Maybe they’d disagree, but he wasn’t going to let that break them apart. He wasn’t going to let that make her think his feelings had faded. “I’m going to love you forever,” was the thing that came next, because it was the truth. And the truth deserved to be heard. He wished he’d told her earlier, honestly. Maybe then she’d understand more about… ‘that night.’ The night he wanted revenge. She acted like she did now, but Charlie could see it in her sparkling eyes that she didn’t. Kirby may not even want to, maybe she did, but she didn’t. She couldn’t.
He looked at the tickets that had been printed for authenticity, and upon taking himself and Kirbz inside, he looked for their seat numbers. Of course, he didn’t spend a jillion dollars for first class tickets – not a point was there to that, and the seats given would do fine. He felt woozy still, and figured he would probably sleep the whole way. What Kirby would do? Charlie didn’t know, he just hoped it didn’t seem too discourteous to sleep the whole 23 hour ride to Hawaii. “Do you want the window seat…?” Charlie asked softly, still walking towards the end of the aisle.
She heard that he called her 'Kirby Walker', but she didn't say anything. She didn't mind.
They didn't know them. They didn't know anything about stabbing and running away. Some of them even smiled when they walked by. Now. Really nothing to be worried about.
"I won't surprise you much." Kirby said, with a small grin on her face, as she glanced at him. "I love you too. And I bet I love you even more. Yes. You heard that, Charlie Walker. I love you more." She said, loudly. It felt good to be finally free. Of course.. free in the positive meaning of the word. Not free alone, alone. Free, alone, with him. Far away from everyone. She couldn't stop thinking about it. About the joy. About the new, perfect life.
She loved how he just held her by hand all the time. Just like he was afraid of losing her, or something. Well, he wasn't going to. She wasn't planning to go anywhere without him.
She couldn't stop mentioning that. Even though she was doing it all the time in her head. When she heard his question, she giggled, softly. "I don't mind, Love. If you like watching the sky, you can take the window seat, I'm just going to sleep." She told him, smiling again. Why couldn't she stop smiling when she looked at him? It was just something about him. It made her so happy. He was so.. Charlie. And that was exactly what she loved.
When they found their seats, she smiled once again. Of course she wasn't going to fight about the window seat, since she didn't even want it that much. She waited for him to sit down first. Then she took a seat next to him and quickly hugged his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.

“Sorry for waking you up.” Kirby said, calmly, as a gentle smile appeared on her face. When she heard another, surprising question, she wasn’t sure what to do. Smile brighter and answer, or be all freaked out and ignore it? Was he just asking because..of nothing, or did he read her diary or something? When would he read her diary? He couldn’t just fly out of the hospital on the bed, like on some magical carpet, go to her house, find her diary somewhere between the bed and pillows, read it and find that list. That secret list she always kept in her little, red diary. Yes, that piece of paper with some random, but beautiful names for girls on.
“Well, I think it’s a beautiful name for a young, but very clever girl.” She said, sounding a bit like her grandmother. So serious, so honest. Saying what she really thinks, in the tone she wants it to be said. “Don’t laugh, but when I was younger, you know, around fourteen I wanted a little daughter, or sister called Darla.” She shrugged her shoulders, smiling again. That name brought so many good memories.
“Of course, I’d never forget that. It’s in a bag in the car. DVD player, your movie collection, my movie collection, three - dee glasses and some candy I found in my room.” Kirby told him. “Just in case, if we won’t get food on the plane. I hope you like colorful candy canes, jelly beans, marshmallows in chocolate and gatorade.” Healthy lifestyle! But it was just typical breakfast, lunch and dinner for horror movie geeks from Cinema Club, who instead of going to some nightclub and have fun with prostitutes and alcohol prefered to meet at someone’s house and watch few, good films, while eating the most unhealthy food on the earth.
She didn’t have any pencil, nor crayon. She had nothing to write with, but she wasn’t going to ask some nurse for a pencil or such. Nah. Since they were going to live far away, alone, with no family around, they needed to be independent. And to learn how to be independent, they couldn’t ask everyone around for help. That was obvious. The blondie sighed, as she took some lip gloss out of her pocket and opened it. Cherry flavor. Numm. She didn’t even think about it twice, she just signed the paper, not even reading what it said. “Done.”
Kirby could understand that he couldn’t walk fast. He didn’t really have to, they had enough time. Few hours? Minutes? Well, that was enough. They had everything ready, the trip to the airport couldn’t take more than thirty minutes. “Now we can go.” Kirby said, as she turned herself and slowly started walking out of the room. She didn’t want to walk away from him, she walked slowly, so he could catch up with her.
After leaving the building and walking to the car, she glanced at him again, and smiled brightly. “I can’t believe it’s really happening.” She muttered. It was like a typical scene from an action movie. A couple.. yes, couple leaves the country, families panic and police tries to find the teenagers. This was going to be different, though. Police wasn’t going to find them so easily. Because..how?
She took the cellphone out of her pocket and smashed it on the ground.
Now. The police couldn’t do anything.
With that weird feeling in her stomach, she got into the car and sighed, placing her hands on the steering wheel. She waited for him to get in, sit down next to her, before driving off.
They were leaving. Really leaving. The town. Their families. Everything and everyone.
Charlie heard what she had to say, mostly about the Darla thing and the DVD player. He wiped his forehead of an invisible sweat and managed an over dramatic sigh of relief. It wasn’t like the DVD player meant much to him, but it was something he adored. And Kirby had been so smart as to take it. He could’ve pulled her into a hug and never let go. And then he heard about Darla the name. She wanted a daughter named Darla. Maybe that wasn’t just some silly dream he was given out of the happiness that was swarming in his veins. Maybe it WAS the future. Maybe they’d be happy. He kissed her on the forehead slightly, glad to hear what she said. It even drew a wider smile a crossed his chapped lips, which didn’t even seem possible – since he’d been smiling as extensive as he could a minute ago. But it had, and he didn’t bother to try and fix it. He was happy.
Charlie let her lead him out. He saw her smash the phone, and he touched her shoulder lightly. Kirby was a lot smarter than he’d assumed. She wasn’t letting them be traced down. And though Hawaii was still USA territory, nobody would think to look for them there as far as Charlie was concerned, so he was worriless. Since it was Kirby’s car and Charlie felt too woozy to try and drive them to the Woodsboro airport, he opened the passenger door and slid inside. What were they going to do with her car, anyways? They couldn’t just DRIVE to Hawaii, there was an ocean between there, and they were far too distant from the border line anyways. They’d have to give it away. Plenty of poor people lived in airport parking lots, Charlie knew this because when he ran away at fourteen, he’d let a family of the homeless take him in. That was probably the second best day of his life, too.
This was the first.
“When we get there,” Charlie said once they’d started driving, “We can give the car to someone.” He wasn’t a fan of not getting something in return, but he wanted to waste not a minute of this. “And maybe we should’ve planned this through more, but it’s going work.” He thought about what they were going to do for a house, and jobs… But they’d work that out. Charlie looked back at the back of Kirby’s car for a moment. Notepad. Snapped pencil. Perfect. He picked it up, and hoped she wouldn’t mind. After buckling himself in again, he started thinking. In that dream he’d wrote books, tons. For now, they could get regular jobs and live in an apartment complex. Eat fast-food until they got their paychecks. It would all work out. “I had a dream while you were gone,” Charlie admits, and then goes full force into details. About the landscape, about them, about the little girl – whose name he left out – about the book, and the pictures and the everything. “We’re going to make it, Kirby Reed.” He said again, tapping his chin with the broken end of the pencil. The lead was dull, but that didn’t matter. He started to write. He would have to recreate the day he decided to attack his ‘friends.’ He would put it in first person point of view. He would make it a book, and he would call it Redemption.
Arriving at the airport took twenty six minutes, and by then he had a sentence or two. He was still beating himself up for not reading the book. Maybe the inside would have the secrets of life? Maybe the inside was just blank? He’d never know now, but he could only hope he’d be able to portray that life for the two of them again. His dream self was so… carefree. They didn’t have any troubles what so ever. He could only repeat the prayer over and over in his mind that it would end up that way here, too.
"I think it wasn't just a dream." Kirby muttered, trying to focus on the road. It was difficult, since his dream, or maybe..premonition was more interesting. For a second – Kirby wanted to just stop the car and talk about the future, but she didn't know when the next flight was supposed to be. She didn't want to stay in Woodsboro any longer. Kirby didn’t expect that to happen. Or if she did, she didn’t expect that to happen so quickly. At first she just stood still, staring at him, with her mouth open. She wanted to say something, but no words came out. She was totally shocked. Totally frozen.
His idea was good, it was great, it could change so many things and make them finally be happy. But wasn’t it a bit dangerous? What if police would go after them and they would get into some big trouble, even into some disaster and never see each other again because of jail and other problems and then die and rot in hell? Yes, even her thoughts were quick at the moment. Her head was like..speeding everything up. So many bad things could happen. But also so many good things. She wasn’t sure what to say. A part of her really wanted to start a new life with Charlie Walker. But the other part of her, – the weirder part she didn’t like so much – wanted to stay in Woodsboro. With Charlie Walker. For a longer moment she was in mess. Trying to figure out what she feels, how she feels and what she wants. It was hard to fight with herself. It was hard to talk to herself in her mind. For the next few minutes, she had to talk about that idea with her two sides. Of course she did it in her mind. It was weird, but definitely better than saying it out loud. Finally, her better side won. Because.. why wouldn’t she at least give it a chance?
Okay. No. There was not giving a chance. She had two options. Going or staying. After choosing one, she couldn’t change her mind again and again. The chance she was going to give had to be.. the final answer, not something what she could just quit.
Kirby finally nodded her head, without any emotions on her face. “We’ll go..” She said. After hearing his plan – he probably planned it while she was away –, she nodded again. “O - Okay.” She wasn’t sure if that was so good idea. If Jill would see them, or hear something about that whole plan.. she would be super mad. And Kirby knew it. Jill could do anything and everything, only to stay with Charlie. Killers always together. Huh?
“I’ll go.” She said, finally. “Give me like..an hour, I don’t need more, I really don’t, I can’t drive, so I’ll take some bus, I’ll hurry, I still have some bags packed after the Holidays so it’s going to be okay. But. Yes. There is but. If I won’t be back in that one hour plus fifteen minutes, I want you to know that Jill probably found me and killed me. Okay?” She said, like it was just a normal thing, and even shrugged her shoulders. “So I will be right back, again..I guess.” And as she said that, she ran out of the room. It looked a bit like she was escaping. Maybe she was?
She ran out of the hospital and down the next street. It would be easier to take some taxi, but then..if police would go after them, the taxi driver would probably say everything he knew. So, even though it could take more time, she decided to go by bus. Nobody would even notice her.
Bus was taking forever. She waited and waited and waited and ughh, waited. Finally, finally that big vehicle stopped in front of her. She sighed heavily, rolled her eyes and walked in.
…
Rest happened fast enough, so she didn’t have to be worried. Bus stopped, she found Charlie’s house, Jill wasn’t there, so she started packing the most important things.
Everything was going fine, she was just packing the last bag, with the horror movies and other things they would probably need, when someone walked into the house. Kirby dropped the 3D glasses she held in her hands into the bag and glanced around. It couldn’t be happening. She heard a familiar voice, probably talking with someone on the phone. Everything was going downhill. This situation was so not planned. She wasn’t supposed to be there. Jill Roberts. That sassy killer girl.
Kirby quickly stood up, she wasn’t going to let the shock stop her. She wasn’t going to just sit on the floor like an idiot and just say HI to Jill. She quickly dragged the heavy bags behind the bed, so the girl wouldn’t notice them when – and if – she would walk into the bedroom. Kirby heard some steps. She heard the voice. Jill was coming. She was closer and closer. Fuck. What to do, what to do?! Kirby wasn’t really sure if that was the best idea, but she had nothing to lose. She opened the closet and jumped in, then closed the door and sighed heavily, waiting for Jill to leave the room, the hallway or just the house. But it looked like everything was just turning against her. Jill walked into the room. Kirby could hear her voice, her steps, her everything. When the girl walked towards the closet and stood against it, Kirby totally panicked. What if Roberts was going to open the closet? What was going to happen if and when Roberts would find her? Kirby wanted to scream, to open the door and run away, but she was too scared to do that. Plus, she promised something, and she wasn’t going to break that promise. She wasn’t going to give up, no matter what. It was for them. For Charlie.
After few – but long – minutes, Jill finally said bye and hang up. Kirby could hear that she’s walking away. A smile appeared on her face, as she heard Jill walking out of the room and closing the door after her. After all, it wasn’t so hard, was it?
Kirby jumped out of the closet, trying to be as quiet as it was possible, though. Jill could still be around, and Kirby didn’t really want that young psycho to hear some noises from the bedroom. Trying to forget about Jill, at least for a moment, she sat back down on the floor, to finish packing the last bag. After around two minutes, she was done. And, she couldn’t hear Jill. Anywhere. So it looked like the young woman left the house. Woop. Woop. Kirby dragged the bags out of the bedroom, then decided to carry them out one by one, one by one. Since every bag was so heavy. As she dragged the first bag out of the house, everything seemed okay. When she dragged the second bag out of the house, everything seemed okay. But when walked back into the house, she heard the voice again. Coming this time from the bathroom. Jill was still there. “Charlie?” Jill called. But Kirby wasn’t going to say anything. She just quickly ran to get the last bag. It was small, but heavy, but she didn’t care, she just dragged it out. Even faster than the first two. Before Jill could walk out of the bathroom, Kirby left the house with the bags. She closed the front door and just ran away, trying somehow to hold those, three bags.
Bus. Home. Carrying bags. Packing more bags. Trying not to look at the blood on the floor. Carrying the bags out of the house. Finally deciding to drive her car to the hospital. Yes. It was exactly what happened next. It was easy, it was quick and took only around fifteen minutes. The car was ready, she was ready, everything was ready. So she drove off. Drove slowly, not wanting to crash. Drove all the way to the hospital, where she jumped out of the car, found on the backseat the bag with some clothes for him, grabbed it, closed the door, locked the car and walked into the hospital, again. Nobody noticed her this time. Or if they did, they were literally ignoring her.
“Everything’s ready.” She said, sighing heavily, as she walked back into his room and put the bag down onto the floor. “Had few problems, but everything’s okay now. I got some clothes for you. Obviously, the rest is in the bigger bag in the car.” She smiled gently.
Charlie had waited for a long time. But eventually, after eating everything that Kirby had bought, he gave up on trying to hold himself awake. With a throbbing rib cage, and a burning lower abdomen, Charlie fell asleep. Usually he had nightmares, this time was different. He was sitting in a lawn chair, legs out stretched, the sea in front of him. It smelled like salt, so they were obviously by an ocean. He had a margarita in hand, and his eyes were squinted because of the high sun. Warm hands were rested against his shoulders, and he could determine the touch was Kirby’s. He looked away from the lapping waves in the distance, to look at her tanned face. But before he could take in the sweet smell of freshly brewed lemonade that embodied her, Kirby was placing her lips on his, and moving her hand from his shoulders to both sides of his neck to she could have more control of the kiss she enforced. When she turned away after a second, she pulled up a chair next to him, and wedged herself down into it. She was wearing yellow shorts and a white tank top. Her hair was tied, and flip flops were on her feet. “How are you?” She asked, finally, mere seconds had passed, but silence was a killer. Charlie took a sip of his drink, and turned his eyes away from her glowing skin to look back at the water. Everything seemed peaceful.
This must be Hawaii.
“Fine,” He said in reply, trying to seem as though he remembered what was going on. Kirby shoots him a smile, and nudges his arm playfully. “Yeah, me too.” Is all she answered with. Because if she had wanted to say something else, it was cut off by a loud ‘DADDY!’ Charlie felt like that was beckoning him, and he stood up. But by then it was too late. He felt small little hands wrap around his legs, and the child below pressed their face against his thigh softly. “I finished the puuuuuzle!” She cooes, happily, and then tugs him by the shirt. Is this… his child? He assumes so as he follows her inside. The house is nice. A large family portrait hung above a leather couch. A TV blasted children’s music. The carpet was covered in stains that had been washed out, but they weren’t gone. The chocolate brown haired girl points to the puzzle on the coffee table. It’s a picture of herself that has been put together. A father instinct kicks in, and he buckles onto both knees to hug the little girl. She smells like Kirby. Charlie kisses the side of her head softly, “Wow, good job.” He manages, was this his life? He wasn’t sure. “Mommy and I… we’ll take you out to dinner,” Charlie offers, trying to sound father like. He WAS proud of her, since he could hardly do a puzzle himself. As he stays in his position, he notices a school photo of the child on the wall. Her brown hair is combed back, and pinned there by a bright green headband. Her eyes are rounded and a dark blue. Her mouth is curved into an everlasting, joyful smile. The bottom reads Darla Walker. This is his child.
“Wherever you wanna go, Darla.” Charlie tossed in, ruffling the kid’s hair before turning around. Her hands clapped together happily, and she ran back to the table. “I should do puzzles more often!” She declared, as she broke pieces off. He wandered around for a while, wanting to see everything. Where had they got the money for this? Passing a book shelf, his foot bumps something. ‘REDEMPTION.’ Is the tittle branded a crossed the bottom. ‘CHARLES WALKER’ is at the top. He wrote this, didn’t he? Charlie bent down and picked it up. This was his book. His brown eyes turn from the book in hand to the book shelf. All of these… they’re his. No double copies, either. There has to be at least fifty books there. That’s where the money had come from, wasn’t it? Charlie tucked the book in hand away, and went onward. Plenty more pictures were littered around the white walls. Most were Darla, sea world, ceader point, six flags, Disneyland, all of it – they’ve gone. A few awards for Charlie, too, and a lot of photos of Kirby being down right adorable. Maybe this was his life? Maybe he was okay with it.
The sound of Kirby, woke him. He wanted to hiss at her for making him loose he rest of that dream. Everything had been so perfect there; and he loved it. “Hey,” He mumbled, bitterly, pointing out she hadn’t even bothered to greet him. As she spoke more, the anger fades into that same dying urge to just hug her forever. The urge he’d lived with forever. He takes the clothes from her, pants first, and slides them on his aching legs underneath the sheets. “How do you feel about the name… Darla?” Charlie asks, trying to sound casual. Maybe that dream was just showing him what he would want, and not what was going to happen? He slides the gown off once the pants are buttoned, and a blush forms on his cheeks. Charlie liked to be fully clothed at all times; and this WASN’T that. He wiggled himself into a baggy shirt, and then removed the sheets from his legs. When the cold air hits him, a chill slips down his spine. He likes the feeling.
“Good, good.” Charlie said, and his phone beeped. He picked it up; Charlie must’ve fallen asleep with it in the bed with him. Sixteen unread messages. He opened the first one, and sorted through them as quick as he could without looking rude to Kirby. All from Jill. She was asking about why he wasn’t at the park. He didn’t bother answering. Charlie smashed the phone on the cold tiles below him, and sat up, kicking away the broken pieces with his foot before standing. “They don’t need to track me.” He explains, not wanting to look like he’d gone into a rage at that moment. “You DID get the horror films, right? Even got House of Wax 2005 remake out of the DVD player, right?” He smacked his forehead for forgetting to ask to get the DVD player itself, since he had it wired in a certain way – but he could make due with doing it again.
“I purchase our tickets. We get to the airport, give them our names, and we’re on the next flight to Hawaii.” Charlie then said, ruffling his hair with his hand, trying to calm the racing heart that felt as though it was going to burst out of his chest. He was really going to do this with the girl of his dreams. He took a step towards the Reed girl, and almost threw up. Pain in his stomach. Pain everywhere. He forgot. He’d been stabbed. “Maybe… we have to go slow.” He looked at the table where his food sat. A clipboard. What…? He reached for it, trying only to move his arms and hands. It was a sign-out sheet. He could go, as long as Kirby or he signed this, and promised to email them later. He tossed it at Kirby’s feet, since aim was very, very off and he didn’t wanna hit her in the face. “Sign that, and we’re good.”
"Sorry for waking you up." Kirby said, calmly, as a gentle smile appeared on her face. When she heard another, surprising question, she wasn't sure what to do. Smile brighter and answer, or be all freaked out and ignore it? Was he just asking because..of nothing, or did he read her diary or something? When would he read her diary? He couldn't just fly out of the hospital on the bed, like on some magical carpet, go to her house, find her diary somewhere between the bed and pillows, read it and find that list. That secret list she always kept in her little, red diary. Yes, that piece of paper with some random, but beautiful names for girls on.
"Well, I think it's a beautiful name for a young, but very clever girl." She said, sounding a bit like her grandmother. So serious, so honest. Saying what she really thinks, in the tone she wants it to be said. "Don't laugh, but when I was younger, you know, around fourteen I wanted a little daughter, or sister called Darla." She shrugged her shoulders, smiling again. That name brought so many good memories.
"Of course, I'd never forget that. It's in a bag in the car. DVD player, your movie collection, my movie collection, three - dee glasses and some candy I found in my room." Kirby told him. "Just in case, if we won't get food on the plane. I hope you like colorful candy canes, jelly beans, marshmallows in chocolate and gatorade." Healthy lifestyle! But it was just typical breakfast, lunch and dinner for horror movie geeks from Cinema Club, who instead of going to some nightclub and have fun with prostitutes and alcohol prefered to meet at someone's house and watch few, good films, while eating the most unhealthy food on the earth.
She didn't have any pencil, nor crayon. She had nothing to write with, but she wasn't going to ask some nurse for a pencil or such. Nah. Since they were going to live far away, alone, with no family around, they needed to be independent. And to learn how to be independent, they couldn't ask everyone around for help. That was obvious. The blondie sighed, as she took some lip gloss out of her pocket and opened it. Cherry flavor. Numm. She didn't even think about it twice, she just signed the paper, not even reading what it said. "Done."
Kirby could understand that he couldn't walk fast. He didn't really have to, they had enough time. Few hours? Minutes? Well, that was enough. They had everything ready, the trip to the airport couldn't take more than thirty minutes. "Now we can go." Kirby said, as she turned herself and slowly started walking out of the room. She didn't want to walk away from him, she walked slowly, so he could catch up with her.
After leaving the building and walking to the car, she glanced at him again, and smiled brightly. "I can't believe it's really happening." She muttered. It was like a typical scene from an action movie. A couple.. yes, couple leaves the country, families panic and police tries to find the teenagers. This was going to be different, though. Police wasn't going to find them so easily. Because..how?
She took the cellphone out of her pocket and smashed it on the ground.
Now. The police couldn't do anything.
With that weird feeling in her stomach, she got into the car and sighed, placing her hands on the steering wheel. She waited for him to get in, sit down next to her, before driving off.
They were leaving. Really leaving. The town. Their families. Everything and everyone.
FEELS. FEELS. FEELS. FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS.
Oh where has my ignorance gone? |imgonnabenext|
She watched him as he spoke. She listened to everything, to every single word he said. She nodded her head slightly few times, even though she wasn’t sure if that was a good sign for that she understood him. She understood what he meant, of course she did. He talked like a person, he was alive. Yes, but even though she understand his every word, she couldn’t understand how he could be so.. – now she tried to find a good word for the end of the sentence – calm. Yes. He was way too calm for a moment, talked just like stabbing people was the most normal thing in the world. To them.. it kinda was, now. Woodsboro was now some kind of place, some kind of a cursed place, where nothing was impossible. Where nothing seemed wrong. Where everyone did whatever he wanted, he just needed some motive so it would be more interesting.
Long time ago, when they were still fourteen, this place wasn’t so crazy. It wasn’t so wild like now. People actually cared about others. Kids were actually calm and played outside, or sat with – now the old – phones in their hands and played some snake - games. Then..Woodsboro was like the calmest place ever. Now. Now it was like a hell on earth. Dangerous hell on earth. People basically thought about just grabbing sharp things and stab their friends. They did not regret it. At all. Or at least..some of them didn’t. Like for example Billy Loomis and Stuart Macher. Those two fuckers started it. They ruined the peace around. They wanted a war. They got their war. Now. Now they were dead, or at least supposed to be. Now, they couldn’t be a part of their own idea. And now.. the war was still in the town. Even though their bad personalities left Woodsboro, the war didn’t. It decided to stay. And go from hands to hands, from one teenager to another. It was like a little gift. When they opened it, they became murders. Or, they wanted to be special.
When Kirby heard his voice again, she smiled, and this time opened her mouth, to actually say something, not just stand in front of the bed and nod like a total idiot. “How can you think about food, Walker?” She laughed softly, crossing her arms over her chest, then cocking up her eyebrows and glancing at him, trying to be serious. She just couldn’t right now. Even though after the whole situation she really should be shocked and sit in a corner like a psycho, she couldn’t. His words officially made her day. Made her smile, for real. He felt better. She could just hear it. “Fine, I’ll get you food, but if I hear you complaining about how much your stomach hurts, I swear I’ll shove a chicken into your big mouth.” As she said that, she started walking towards the door. Before she walked out, she turned her head, only to say the last sentence. Instead of : I’ll be right back then. She said: “Forget the kiss.” She smirked, only to tease him, then finally left the room.
…
“Sorry for taking forever, the queue was huge - ass, little kids cried and wanted another toys or flavors of the ice cream, adults asked me all the time questions like What time is it? So yes, sorry for being so late. Plus, the guard down there almost ate the food, when he noticed me. I had to answer questions like What are you doing with this? Or listen to stuff like You can’t bring food to a hospital. Let me take a care of it.” She said, trying to talk like the old guard in front of the hospital. “But anyway, I hope you didn’t starve, there you go. I’m not gonna feed you, you’ll share some food with me, then we’ll talk and probably, probably kiss. Okay? Deal?” Kirby smiled a bit, as she put the big, McDonald’s bag of food onto a little table.
Charlie waited patiently; for the moment it was only himself in the world. The life he lived with Jill and the rest of them felt like it had been years ago, getting beer bottles tossed into his stack of horror films by Jill, who protested they annoyed her to insanity, getting judged for having more hair than the Robert’s child. For being the second tallest – Stu claimed the title of first, and because he was so idiotically incomprehensive, the teasing didn’t bother him as much as it did Charlie. But now, he was here and they were there and returning home was like a nightmare bottled up in a coffin.
When she returned with the food, the sudden reality struck him deeper than that knife had. He didn’t want to go home to the torture that seemed the equivalent, if not more, of high school. Charlie wanted to be away with Kirby. He wanted to be long gone from this town that turned people into blood craving monsters. He himself had experience underneath the heavy fog of the casting an invisible force had pried open and spilled out onto Woodsboro. Right now, Charlie cared less about the food, and more about a plan of an unfathomably clever escape. He was good with these things, it would be as simple as the escape Esther made from the tree house when she tried to burn it down – swift, though it would leave a burning trail.
“Get me out of here,” He suddenly demands, his voice harsh. “Out of his hospital,” Then it relents as he realizes it wouldn’t be so easy. The only way out was going to make Kirby look suspicious; but he was willing to risk anything. “You’re running away with me,” Charlie then explains, sitting up straighter in his bed. He remembers the gown, and a red blush forms on his face. How was that going to work? “Actually, no, scratch that.” He dismisses while biting down on his lower lip with his teeth in a train of thought. “I’m going to eat this food, and you’re going to go to my house, pray to god Jill isn’t there, and get my stuff. Do not forget the horror movies. All I need is clothes, a case of beer from the fridge, my cigarettes on the coffee table, and the four tubs of horror movies. You stop at your place, get things; keep them all in the car expect a change of clothes for me.” I look over beside the bag. My phone. Someone must have taken it from the house of the Reed child, and repaired it, too. Charlie reached for it, ignoring the jeering pain in his rib cage. How was that even… nevermind that .Once he had his fingers around it, he unlocked it – sadly, the pass code was Kirby’s birthday. The recollection of setting it to that was back in the 8th grade. And he never changed it. More blush.
He opened up the internet icon, and typed in just as quickly plane tickets to Hawaii. “Get all the cash you can scrape up from underneath the couch.” Not wanting to admit it, Charlie had got it from selling a few of his horror movie items. He knew a day like this would come. Charlie scooted closer towards her without getting up, enough to grab her arm and pull her to him. Though he was weaker now; he remained dominant. “Do this for me. For you. For us.” His eyes were glazed over with utter seriousness. All he wanted was freedom. “We’ll make it. We will.” Consent or not, Charlie brushed a piece of her hair back softly, and kissed her lips with his, not a moment of hesitation. He was the bigger man. This was the right choice.
“Now go,” Was the last thing he said before he was taking a bite of the McDonald’s she’d gotten him, indulging in the fact he had not to worry about anything besides Jill being there, which could be taken care of. He brought the current screen down with the had that wasn’t filled with a greasy mcnugget, and texted the contact of Jill saying to meet him up at the park. Two hours away from the house. If she was there, Kirby would be safe upon arrival. “For us,” He reminded her, trying not to spit out too much food in the process.
Kirby didn't expect that to happen. Or if she did, she didn't expect that to happen so quickly. At first she just stood still, staring at him, with her mouth open. She wanted to say something, but no words came out. She was totally shocked. Totally frozen.
His idea was good, it was great, it could change so many things and make them finally be happy. But wasn't it a bit dangerous? What if police would go after them and they would get into some big trouble, even into some disaster and never see each other again because of jail and other problems and then die and rot in hell? Yes, even her thoughts were quick at the moment. Her head was like..speeding everything up. So many bad things could happen. But also so many good things. She wasn't sure what to say. A part of her really wanted to start a new life with Charlie Walker. But the other part of her, – the weirder part she didn't like so much – wanted to stay in Woodsboro. Because.. why wouldn't she at least give it a chance?
Okay. No. There was not giving a chance. She had two options. Going or staying. After choosing one, she couldn't change her mind again and again. The chance she was going to give had to be.. the final answer, not something what she could just quit.
Kirby finally nodded her head, without any emotions on her face. "We'll go.." She said. After hearing his plan – he probably planned it while she was away –, she nodded again. "O - Okay." Kirby walked silently and slowly to the bed. If he was asleep, she didn’t want to wake him up. He needed some rest. After what happened. Just..after everything. She glanced around the room, trying to find some chair, or something else to sit on. She wasn’t going to sit on the edge of the bed. She was afraid of hurting him again. This time accidentally. Plus, she didn’t really want to be too close to him when he would wake up.
Because, what if he hated her that much and didn’t even want to look at her? Or what if.. what if he was scared of her? What if he would think that she wanted to stab him again? Could he think so? Maybe. If he didn’t trust her anymore, he could. That wouldn’t surprise her. She didn’t trust him after that little accident, few months ago. She thought that she did, but after this little accident she realized that she was still unsure.
Wow. A lot of little accidents, – like she called it now – huh? Little, big accident. Kirby didn’t want to make a huge disaster of what happened, she didn’t want people to know about what happened, she didn’t even want to remember what happened. People would probably know about the whole thing in few days. It was probably going to be in NEWS, in papers. But now, while nobody even knew that these two, innocent teenagers existed – she liked calling this little accidents.
She could see a wooden chair in the corner of the room, so she slowly walked on her tip toes towards it, trying to be really quiet, like a mouse. She picked up the chair, slowly, carefully. It was heavy, and she felt weak now, but, since she already held it, she couldn’t put it back down, with force. She sighed, slightly, as she started walking, slowly, holding the chair in her hands, not wanting it to touch the floor, yet. It looked and could remind people of a game for little kids. When they had to carry things over the river – often a blue carpet or blanket on some floor –. Kirby used to play it. Few years ago. When she was younger. It was once popular, in parties and when people got really bored with their friends.
Kirby walked to the right side of the bed and put the chair carefully down, then wiped sweat off her forehead and sat down, watching him. She wasn’t sure for how long she was going to stay. Maybe for an hour, maybe for two, and maybe forever, until he’d wake up and even longer. Of course, it could take some time, if he had good dreams, but Kirby didn’t care. She was going to stay with him. She wasn’t sure for how long, but she knew that she was going to stay. And not going to change her mind, even if the doctors would try to drag her out of the room, somehow.
Charlie laid still. Listening to her breathe. She sounded so frustrated that his heart ached just a tad. When she sat down, and everything went still, he rolled over. Another pain that seemed unfathomable shot through his abdomen. But he tried to contain it, and make the switch in position looked normal. The last thing he needed to do was scare her, and screaming because he felt like someone was stabbing him from the inside of his stomach with a pitch fork would probably achieve that. His eyes finally came to terms with things. He made them shutter open gradually.
“Kirby,” Charlie started before she could say anything. He thought about his words, he didn’t went to confuse her any more than he already had. His voice was raspy, and probably far from understand able. But his eyes willed themselves open, just to look at her. Stress did a toll on everyone, but Kirby still looked beautiful. She always would, no matter how much irritation could fog his eyes, she would be a stunning star in a sea of blackness. “You know… you know I’m not mad, right?” It was the he could think to say to her. Charlie saw it in her eyes, the fear that he would be mad at her. Maybe he was a tad, but it would fade. When the pain did, the emotion would follow. He loved that girl more than he could’ve imagined, nothing would alter that.
“Now, god help you little girl, if you don’t get me some McDonald’s and kiss me, I’ll make sure you’re in the bed next to mine with broken bones.” Charlie realized now that all he wanted was to be silly with the blonde that had grown on him so much more than he had expected five years ago. Charlie decided it would be a good idea to manage a reassuring smile towards her, but by then he was utterly fatigued from speaking. His eyes fell back into a rest position, and he wedged his hand out. He let it hang limp over the side of the unfomfortable bed, and all he could do was hope she’d take it. He could only hope she’d forget. He could only hope she’d forgive. And the same went in reverse. All would be solved. All would be clear. Everything was going to be okay now. The world was balanced for the moment, and he enjoyed every ticking second that past as so. “And I’m not kidding about the McDonald’s, either. A milkshake with no cherry – vanilla – a ten piece chicken nugget and a small fry.” He muttered, with the smile never leaving his lips.
She watched him as he spoke. She listened to everything, to every single word he said. She nodded her head slightly few times, even though she wasn't sure if that was a good sign for that she understood him. She understood what he meant, of course she did. He talked like a person, he was alive. Yes, but even though she understand his every word, she couldn't understand how he could be so..
Long time ago, when they were still fourteen, this place wasn't so crazy. It wasn't so wild like now. At all. Or at least..some of them didn't. Like for example Billy Loomis and Stuart Macher. Those two fuckers started it. They ruined the peace around. They wanted a war. They got their war. Now. Now they were dead, or at least supposed to be. Now, they couldn't be a part of their own idea. And now.. the war was still in the town. Even though their bad personalities left Woodsboro, the war didn't.
"How can you think about food, Walker?" She laughed softly, crossing her arms over her chest, then cocking up her eyebrows and glancing at him, trying to be serious. She just couldn't right now. Even though after the whole situation she really should be shocked and sit in a corner like a psycho, she couldn't. His words officially made her day. Made her smile, for real. He felt better. She could just hear it. "Fine, I'll get you food, but if I hear you complaining about how much your stomach hurts, I swear I'll shove a chicken into your big mouth." As she said that, she started walking towards the door. Before she walked out, she turned her head, only to say the last sentence. Instead of : I'll be right back then. She said: "Forget the kiss." She smirked, only to tease him, then finally left the room.
...
"Sorry for taking forever, the queue was huge - ass, little kids cried and wanted another toys or flavors of the ice cream, adults asked me all the time questions like What time is it? So yes, sorry for being so late. Plus, the guard down there almost ate the food, when he noticed me. I had to answer questions like What are you doing with this? Or listen to stuff like You can't bring food to a hospital. Let me take a care of it." She said, trying to talk like the old guard in front of the hospital. "But anyway, I hope you didn't starve, there you go. I'm not gonna feed you, you'll share some food with me, then we'll talk and probably, probably kiss. Okay? Deal?" Kirby smiled a bit, as she put the big, McDonald's bag of food onto a little table.
