raised mostly by helene, their half-sister, because chris was always a shit dad and hekate couldn't really be involved in a mortal's life
always an absolute menace, honestly a miracle they didn't flunk out of school. did get a hell of a lot of detentions, though.
soon enough helene wanted a life ( understandable ) and cas was done with school, so they legged it to new york ( having heard there was a place for demigods up there )

biography.
diya was born in 1998 in melbourne, australia to lakshmi murthy, an accomplished doctor teaching medicine at rmit. the first twelve years of their life were normal enough, though their scrapes tended to heal faster than others', and some other kids claimed they had a faint glow to them.
the monsters started being drawn to them when they started high school. never enough to be a serious impediment, but combined with dyslexia, adhd and a severely underfunded public school, diya was really being set up to fail.
it was after encountering a fellow demigod while being chased by empousai that diya learned about godriver. the idea of a safe haven, somewhere they wouldn't be the weird kid, where they didn't have to worry about monsters, was deeply appealing — and lakshmi could see the benefits as well ( number one being much less fraught parent-teacher meetings ).
when diya was sixteen, the murthy family ( all two of them ) moved to godriver. lakshmi took a job at the medical centre, dabbling in teaching at the community college and occasionally commuting into syracuse to lecture at SUNY.
eleven years have passed since they moved to godriver, and diya is thriving. now a qualified doctor, having studied under their mother and various half-siblings, di splits their time between fates' spindle ( looking at clothes ), the medical centre ( working ) and the college ( sitting in on their mum's classes ).
