Thinking about it Iām curious, if you DID recruit the darkner flowers would defernull Asgore notice? Of course people in deltarune rarely notice things going missing here and there, but dang Susie and Kris would have to take all his like pressed down precious darling ābeautifulā flowers then not tell him that they took it. Assuming Asgore is still kidnapped by roaring knight, heād still end up coming. back to them missing while knowing Kris and Susie went into that dark world, so I can see him finding out somewhat they mayy have stolen his things
The relationship he had with his flowers was one that choked the life out of them and was killing the virtues they represented and which he once held. He could have persevered through the trials in his life and still take care of them the way he still did in the canon Deltarune, but he chose to press them instead. He would justify it as preserving their beauty foreverā¦ but thatās not really true.

When he was still the leader and man his family and friends needed him to be. They were virtues he once held so dear, but now- heās fallen so far from grace. He felt he had to kill them, because he couldnāt face the man he used to be.
The reason why he kept Flowery alive unlike the others was because he couldnāt kill that last part of his conscience. He couldnāt fully commit to becoming the monster he imagined himself to be.
So I imagined his arc in DN chapter 5 could be learning to let go of his self loathing, or at least not let it consume him the way heās let it destroy his flowers. So he has to learn to let go of his obsessive control of his garden. Let the past die (or ig go retire to castletown in this case and stop having to embody his toxic ideals) and let a new future take root.
