READING PERCY JACKSON FOR THE FIRST TIME
where I share my thoughts while I'm reading pjo because I have no job, no girlfriend, no prospects and nothing better to do
⚠️ this obviously contains spoilers and jokes; I will (most likely) curse and say something like "I'll kill myself" (I won't, don't worry); PLEASE no spoilers
So... I guess first I will explain why I'm reading Percy Jackson in my 20's
Well, because it's a fun read and I never read it
But I mostly wanted to read everything after I found out Nico and Will were canon, and they have their own book!
That happened when I was first watching the new series (like beginning of last year) and I've been reading the books my friend borrowed to me for almost a year. So it began my quest to read 15 books divided in 3 sagas to get to read 1 single book!
But yeah, I've already read the first saga, and I'm now reading the heroes of olympus
But I'm gonna share my thoughts (or what I could remember) on PJO
- The Lighting Thief: I can't really remember because it was a long time ago, but I can say without a doubt that I finally understood why people kept saying the movie suck... because it does. Also I hate every single one of the gods (but especially Zeus, fuck him), except Hades kinda (well, that changed by the 5th book)
- The Sea of Monsters: I love Tyson, HE IS MY SON, MY BABY, and I hated everyone who talked shit about him (including Percy). But he also proved to me that Poseidon kinda sucks, like most gods (don't try to defend him to me, I don't like him). I've already known the movie was shit but after reading the book I realized it was worst than I could've imagined. This book actually made me like Clarisse more, I like a mean girl with daddy issues. Hermes is also likable, I like him.
- The Titan's Curse: this is kinda my favorite book. Kinda because the beginning was boring, but when they finally begun their quest it was amazing. I love(d) Zoë and I love Artemis and Apolo (they are definitely the only gods I like and respect, but mostly Artemis, the queen of aroace and the one with a working brain in the olympus). I liked Thalia also, little did I know she would only appear again in the second half of the last book. THIS IS ALSO THE BOOK THAT BIANCA AND NICO FIRST APPEAR. I already knew Bianca was going to die and Nico would be like an emo sad boy, so it was really sad when I read it and he was a happy little boy with his sister. Now, the elefant in the room: yes I got upset by Bianca leaving Nico to join the hunters but I understood why she did it. I was upset because she hurt my other baby, Nico. Anyways, I already knew about Bianca's death but I wasn't prepared for Zoë's death 😭😭😭😭. I cried so hard. WHYYYY. "The stars, I can see them again, my lady" (I'm translating from Portuguese) 😭😭😭😭😭😭 my heart was broken. My reaction while I was reading:
- The Battle of the Labyrinth: this book was amazing. Tyson was back, Percy and Annabeth finally kissed and it was tense! I just didn't like the Annabeth-Calypso-Rachel situation, you gotta choose, Percy! I know he is a teenager and Aphrodite said she was going to mess with him, but like wtf? Anyways... I love Paul and I love he is part of the family now, he is a cutie. I knew there was something going on with Quintus but I wasn't expecting he was Daedalus. It was shocking! I also HATE the satyr committee, they were so annoying!!!!!! "You three weeks late" MY BROTHER IN CHRIST, they're coming to destroy the camp! Like who gives a fuck?! Also the part of Cronos possessing Luke's body? Jesus... it was scary and sad
- The Last Olympian: this book begins with death, in the middle is more death and it ends with death. WTF? I thought this was supposed to be a children's book?? I loved it, there was only one thing that bothered me: the whole Annabeth-Rachel and Percy-Luke situation. Look, I like Rachel and liked their little romance, but Percy's been pinning for Annabeth for 4 books and he spends half of the last book only thinking about Rachel? And also all the jealousy. I didn't like that... When Thalia was first introduced, I really thought she was going to be like an actually important character, but she doesn't do much. She only appears in like the second half of the book? Meanwhile, I didn't thought Nico was going to be that important but he is! And I'm happy because I like him a lot (probably my favorite character) yes he kinda betrayed Percy a little but he is a child and Hades manipulated him (that made me like him less) and he said he was sorry... so it's okay, my child, I forgive you. This book was tense from beginning to end, and I have like no words for it, just feelings... so many people died (many people I didn't know), it was so devastating. I read the whole battle in one day because I knew I wouldn't sleep if I didn't get to the end. I got a really big spoiler about the great profecy being about Luke when I was reading book 3, I was really confused and I still am actually. I really don't understand (not fully). But it was a great ending.
And that leads me to where I am now: beginning to read the next saga, The Heroes of Olympus
