Scope results back
I’m back with positive news~Â
Got my scope results back about 2 days ago. Doctor gave me my results over the phone. He told me I didn’t have to worry much cause it isn’t cancer and I haven’t got any ulcers.
Only thing is that my stomach is for some reason hyper-acidic. And I have a small inflammation in my duodenum (this organ near the small intestine). He gave me a PPI and gaviscon advanced and told me to stay on it for 4-6 weeks. For the first two days the medicine didn’t kick in but it’s working fine now and i feel much better with lesser throat burn issues.Â
I’m optimistic about my recovery :)Â

Day 1 after my endoscope
There will always be a first time for everything. Had my first hospital visit yesterday and for the first time, had something shoved down my throat ;) I felt nothing since I was put to sleep. Was prescribed some meds and I'm taking them cause I can't bear the discomfort from throat burn anymore. Not sure if this is due to the anaesthetic but I've been feeling tired since yesterday and I basically slept away the whole of today. #fuckacidreflux. Hope you guys are doing well :)

Acid Reflux (#fuckacidreflux)
So I’d never imagine that I would be doing this. Writing about my personal issues on my tumblr. I had this Tumblr since 5-6 years ago and it has always been my escape from reality especially when I was still studying for Uni. Ever since i started working about 8 months I haven’t been very active except for the occasional scroll on my phone. But I’m back now because I’m in so much discomfort and pain with Acid Reflux and one day, when I was feeling extremely down, I decided to search for the tag ‘acid reflux’ on Tumblr and what I saw on my feed reminded me of why I loved Tumblr so much in the first place.Â
I saw many other young people experiencing the same pain that I do, saw people writing about the same frustration of waking up every day and being subjected to the mercy of our illness.
So I’m back here now and I want to write. Because I think I will feel better if I do it here. I mean I already have a wonderful girlfriend who always listens to my daily update about my shitty issues but I do feel that I need to give her a break and who knows, what I write on here about my acid reflux might actually also make others feel better.Â
So a short summary of my acid reflux: Started having it about a month ago, in the last week of January 2016. Experienced heart aches and I thought I was going to have a heart attack or something. This lasted a week before I went to my GP. I experienced a loss of appetite and I googled my symptoms and they tallied with acid reflux so my GP prescribed me some mild medicine (no PPIs) for gastric and after 2 days of eating my medicine, i felt superb. At this point of time, silly me had no idea that i was supposed to adjust my diet. I should let you know that prior to this, I’m a big eater and being typical Asian, I loved spicy food and ate a lot of chilli. So I continued eating a lot and taking lots of chilli with everything,Â
Then in late Feb, I had random chest pains that lasted 1-2days. I took the same meds the GP had given earlier and they went away. But on the last week of Feb, I experienced more than just chest pains, i got the awful throat burn. I had no weird taste in my mouth before but one day I went to bed and suddenly I could feel my throat burning and my mouth tasted funny. And this has since been on until today.Â
I took meds for 2 days, the throat burn didn’t go away. I went back to my GP and he prescribed me omeprazole. I took that for 3 days and still the throat burn was there. I finished my prescription and went back for more. That was when my GP suggested referring me to a specialist at a hospital for an endoscope to figure out the root of the problem. I stopped taking my omeprazole after a week of eating them to no effect because i read about the side effects and I wanted to see what would happen. 2 weeks later, and now I’m waiting for my endoscope to happen tomorrow.Â
It’s been a weird 4 weeks. I’ve read everything and anything I can find online about GERD and acid reflux and throat burn and it’s been an emotional roller coaster ride. Like honestly, in between commutes, while waiting for trains and buses, all I do is google on forums or like go on reddit to read about acid reflux. Some days I’m convinced that I will get oesophagus cancer from the constant throat burn, some days I feel super optimistic and feel that everything can only get better, and some days I’m just tired of thinking about my acid reflux.Â
I hope to bring positive results from my endoscope. I mean I don’t really know what to expect too. I’m suspecting that my lower oesophagus sphincter is loose and hence causing all these pain. But if that’s the case it also means I will have to be on long term meds with PPI and I’m not too keen because I don’t think they are very effective on me but then again I haven’t had them for longer than a week. So we shall see. Or maybe it could be H. Pylori I mean that would be much easier cause antibiotics and PPIs will kill it and I’ll be good in no time. But I’m just speculating and yea. But I’m optimistic! I just recovered from bronchitis in early Jan 2016 and like many other shit that has happened to me before, I’m sure I’ll get through this unscathed.Â
If you’re reading this, know that you’re not alone in dealing with acid reflux and know that there are many people all around the world like you. Feel free to leave a comment to share your experience! I would love to hear more about other people’s stories!
