Zombie apocalypse planning is a common discussion in my circle of friends. I'm the adult child of a festival following, star gazing hippie. The universe both terrifies and excites me. The magical tinkling of glass crashing to the ground is my favorite adrenaline rush. Wishing on shooting stars and dandelion fluff is a way of life. I love beards. like, on men. Laughing at myself is the only way I can stay sane. Love me some dream pop. And men with tattoos. And kitten breath. Lucky charms. Fresh from the dryer clothes on my skin. Sleeps until 11am while it rains against my window. Just being. I'm the youngest I'll ever be and the oldest I've ever been. I love to talk about nothing. Its the only thing I know anything about.

So, I know Suicide Squad won best makeup, but can we just take a moment to appreciate the makeup in Star Trek Beyond anyway? I mean, just look at these:

First off, Kalara. The color gradient and the ridges are just gorgeous.

For Natalia, who only even in this one scene, they had to create super-light prostheses, AND they used a new iridescent, color-shifting pigment that had never been used in makeup before.

Those lights on Krall? They’re not CG. They imbedded fiber optics into the prosthesis. 

And Jaylah. Wonderful Jaylah, they made a “bulletproof” makeup formula that won’t bleed at all and then APPLIED ALL OF THOSE LINES BY HAND.

This is so, so important. The way adults react to a child’s passions and ambitions can often shape the way the child sees themselves. It’s crucial to encourage them wholeheartedly, especially if the child is prone to beat themselves up about the little things anyway.

Whenever my parrot flips out and gets angry, I say, “Hey,” in this soft, comforting voice and then talk to him gently. He calms down within seconds.

I just got frustrated enough at something that I went, “ARGH.” My parrot said, “Hey,” all softly and sweetly like a dozen times over the next minute. It made me feel better instantly.

My parrot is better at conflict de-escalation than most people.
