When they first met, Rex respected Ahsoka in a formal place, while informally calling her “kid”. Of course, he calls her that way because he has a friendship with her and because she is a girl of age she still has to be protected. (He doesn’t admit that he’s a 10-year-old boy.) At S7, he called her “ma'am”. Isn’t this the first time Rex has used this title for Ahsoka? Rex may have wanted her to realize that “I respect you as an adult woman, not a kid.”
