The Life and Times of Imogen Noelle Rutherford

At age 12, Imogen decided she wanted to work for Vogue and was going to be the most fashionable girl at North Shore.  She was going to be legendary.

At age 15, Imogen fell in love for the first time and had her heart broken for the first time. It was also the year she first experienced loss. Imogen started to wonder if her life was supposed to be so liberating, then why did she constantly felt like she’s being buried alive. When she finally arrived in Montecito, Imogen cried. Not the delicate, manipulative crying that she’s prefected. It was the sort of ugly crying, the sort where her chest heaved and snot dripped. It was long overdue and it felt so good. 

At age 28, Imogen is a full-time CIA agent.  She laughs and thinks about how much she changed since she was in high school. She is going to change the world one day. As balloons fell from the ceiling on her 28th birthday, Imogen realizes that being Imogen Rutherford is the most fierce legend anyone could ever ask for.

I've always heard every ending is also a beginning. We just don't know it at the time. I'd like to believe that's true.

Dear Freshman Imogen,

You’re going to regret all of it. Every single person you made cried, every insult you exchanged, every heart you broke. You’re not an inhuman bitch like you want people to think you are. You are soft. You’re the girl who cried with her best friend when they saw One Direction together, you’re the girl whose day was made when the upperclassman she was crushing on sent her flowers, you’re the girl who loved too much. Too blindly even. 

You aren't a saint, Imogen, but you’re not a monster either. You deserve to be loved, and the only thing stopping you from being happy is you. You are stronger than you know and you don’t need to be a Plastic to see it.  

Keep your chin up, Imogen because this upcoming year is going to be rough. But despite everything, you’ll survive. However it’s your burden to bear. It’s not a bruise someone can kiss and make better. It’s something you have to do by yourself because you’ll realize something about yourself. You’re made of iron, Imogen. Even if you’re lost and have no idea what you’re doing. But some  bridges have to be burned down before they can be built again. 

 I haven’t been you for a long time and it’s time for me to move on with my life. I don’t know who I am anymore or where home is, but I know I’m not getting any answers in Evanston.   This is a goodbye, Imogen. Goodbye to the girl with the Hermes scarves, to the town full of memories I rather forget, to Mom, Dad, and Nadia.  To everything.

I don’t know. Tennis practice every Monday and Friday. Chess club meetings every Thursday. Fencing practice every Tuesday. Along with trying to raise your GPA after you crashed last semester keeps you busy. Oh and the weekend, you get to spend it looking through your dead family’s stuff and try to decide what to keep and sell. 

So sorry, if I didn’t have time to answer a one night stand’s texts.

Have you ever been lost?

The last thing he remembered was walking out of the school’s building–– but even that memory wasn’t clear enough when his head hurt like crazy and eyes refused to stay open for longer than three seconds. Dash didn’t know what exactly had happened, or where he currently was, but something must have happened, and he must have blacked out, as it certainly wasn’t normal for a teenage boy to leave the campus in the morning and ( possibly ) few hours later find himself tied to a chair, in a place that smelled like mold and rotten corpses. 

After few attempts, he managed to open his eyes, and slowly look around. Darkness. Absolute and complete darkness–– he couldn’t even see his legs. Nor the ropes–– or whatever the hell was holding him down–– but he knew that they definitely were there, because standing up, or, well, moving in general was almost impossible. Great. Literally the dream. The only thing that was missing right now was the kidnapper–– because, yes, this was kidnapping, Dash figured–– though, he had the feeling the person would show up soon, and then he’d get to listen to someone rambling about–– actually.. about what? What was the motive? 

“Hello?” he finally spoke. If someone was there with him, they were probably waiting for this. For him to say something, so they could finally start the party. Dash then waited, expecting a crowd of easily amused jocks to jump in and start laughing or screaming or air-humping or.. whatever it is they did after kidnapping someone for the fun of it.

Ever since Imogen returned to Evanston from Vegas, the realization she had in the city had not gone away. Evanston wasn’t home for her anymore. It stopped feeling like home in May after her parents passed away and it was never going to feel like home for her again. It was a truth she accepted. Her biggest enemy had always been herself, that little voice inside that set her back and made her question everything.  Accepting and loving yourself was the first thing she had to work on in her mandatory therapy sessions and Imogen was done blaming herself for what happened to her.

The second step was confronting your demons. Her therapist thought she was talking about a bully at high school and Imogen had to stop herself from scoffing at the Dr. Phil wannabe before her. She survived a car accident that took her parents from her, nearly being raped, being stabbed, and a gunshot wound from a psychopath. The last thing in Evanston that scared her was the Plastics. She came home from her therapy session and went into her closet.  Looking through an old box in her closet, Imogen found what she was looking for. A vial of rohypnol. It was one of the many drugs she had left over from the Plastic phrase of her life. Sitting down on the floor of her closet, Imogen started planning.

Drugging Dash was easier than she thought. After pulling the fire alarm and waiting for the school to exit, Imogen made her way to Dash’s class and mixed the rohypnol into his water bottle. Then she waited for the drug to take place and dragged his body to her car, his body was heavier than she expected but she made sure to use the stairs with broken cameras. After driving him to one of the warehouses her father used to own, Imogen tied him up in the chair and left him alone for a few hours so that drug would wear off. 

Hours later, she returned to the warehouse. Hearing him speak, Imogen turned on a set of light and made her towards her personal demon. “Hi,” she smiled at him as a shark would before going in for the kill.
