Yes, it’s R.J. for Rick Jr. That’s his name. He’s like a symbol of people’s hopefulness that maybe things are going to be better now. And, I think we wanted to show that Rick and Michonne were in a very hopeful place as they’re planning this sort of rebuilding of society, that they believe that they can create a world that is better for their children than it is for them right now. So [the baby] just seemed like the ultimate symbol of their connection to each other, their commitment to each other. – Angela Kang

That was the scene where I really got hit by the fact that this was happening. It was a scene where we actually said goodbye. It was a very emotional scene to shoot. We got to really think about what she would be contributing to him at this moment. She’s bringing him that love and that affirmation, and that reminder that he is this beautiful man that she respects – who never gives up, and fights for his own. He always finds a way. It was beautiful. It was very intimate. It was very emotional. That’s where everything kind of hit me about what was really going down. – Danai Gurira

Perhaps the most telling moment of Lincoln’s final day was when Gurira approached her on-screen love interest during a break in filming. As the two hugged, Lincoln pressed his lips on Gurira’s forehead and left them there, almost afraid for the kiss — and the moment and the day itself — to end. ♡
