The Happy Accidents challenge for March was to interpret a screencap from a movie in our own style (which I don't have). I chose this scene from Kiki's delivery service where she runs into an alley and ditches Tombo by flying off on her broom after meeting him for the first time. I really liked the deliberate vertical composition of the scene which struck me immediately. Unfortunately I messed up the perspective and general accuracy to the scene pretty badly, plushaving had only an afternoon and a half to work on this (through my own fault) I had to rush a lot of it, which I think shows. But I also learned a lot about painting and how to deal with colors, and I got a newfound appreciation to how much goes into just a single background painting that we don't even really see for more than a few seconds. But working on this virtually all day non-stop left me feeling really grumpy about this so I'll go to bed now. My interpretation involved using bleaker/more realistic colors than the cartoonish palette of the show, and to exaggerate some environmental effects and simplifications.
