I love Everlark AUs so much cause it’s like. Are they awkward acquaintances? Yep that works. Are they best friends? Well yea. Do they hate each other’s guts? That’s also canon. Unrequited? Partially requited? Secretly mutually requited but they’re just stupid? Yes. Like don’t get me wrong, there are some characterizations that can make me nope out of a fic and I do understand that all ships can be interpreted in different ways (that’s the point of AUs, etc etc.)

I just find it so damn amusing that Gale never asked Katniss if the lovers act was real. He knew damn well that something was going on between her and Peeta, that she was just different with Peeta. And that’s what broke his heart.

The first thing Gale does in CF is give up any hops of being Katniss's boyfriend. "I had to do that at least once," because he knows he's already missed his chance.

I always laugh when people paint Peeta as a soft, innocent, almost a push over type of guy. Like this boy was eating Katniss up in arguments, making innuendos while on his deathbed, and beating up guys if they threaten his girl. Like come on now.

I've seen quite a few bad thg opinions the past couple days so here's a reminder that these things are canon:

Katniss is suicidal until Peeta comes home. He gives her the hope she needs to heal and move forward. They eventually enter a romantic relationship because she desires and loves him.

Katniss's only reason for not wanting kids was her deep-seated fear that they'd be reaped. Becoming a mother shows how much she's recovered from her trauma. Her children make her feel joy.

Katniss is happy in 12. She would've ended up there anyway. (“A few hundred others return because, whatever has happened, this is our home.”)

So anyone who thinks her ending isn't good/what she wanted probably doesn't actually like Katniss and definitely doesn't understand her character as she's written. Thankfully her creator does know her and gave her the peaceful ending she deserves.

Everlark: The Most Oblivious Main Characters

Saw this comment on Tik Tok and can't unsee it: Katniss loves Peeta. The only ones unaware are Katniss and Peeta.

The same can be said about the big picture. The only ones not knowing what's going on are the two of them.

In Catching Fire:

Katniss: I'm gonna die for Peeta because he's just so nice and kind and he's the best of us, he just deserves to live and have children.

Peeta: I'm gonna die for Katniss because she doesn't love me anyway, she'll get over my death and go on to have a family with someone else.

Meanwhile, everyone else: Neither of them can die 'cause, you know, we need Katniss as the face of the rebellion and Peeta as the speaker and emotional support for Katniss. And these two idiots are trying so hard to die for each other while pretending they're not actually in love. Man, we're exhausted. Let's make fun of them a bit.

i keep seeing the take that "Katniss doesn't love Peeta she's just trauma bonded to him" it's making me lose my mind.

First of all, all the superior TikTok and Twitter psychologists aren't even using that term correctly. A trauma bond implies an abuser using the trauma as leverage. Neither Katniss or Peeta are abusive and you can't even make an argument about that so automatically this idea is untrue.

but more importantly- what's wrong with, outside of the abusive context, using trauma as a bond? Why does that mean that they can't love each other? This idea is so ridiculous. Peeta understand best (more than Haymitch and the other victors) what Katniss is going through. Very few people can provide emotional support to her. She has severe PTSD and the most powerful man in the entire country is attempting to plot her assassination because she's been made the face of a rebellion, in an act of defiance Peeta was also present for. Peeta, already astoundingly sympathetic to her (and others), is able to fully empathize with her. They have a shared past and have an experience that nobody else in the entire history of the games has ever had. Like are you saying Katniss feels strongly towards him because he understands and can relate to her? literally what is unhealthy or weird about that? It would be one thing if Peeta was abusive but he's not. In his normal state, he has never used the games or the shared bond they have against her and his basically only used it to help her, as well as himself.

like the basic implication is that people who have similar trauma don't actually love each other, which is just so astoundingly untrue it's really hard to even wrap my head around the idea. and if the idea is that Katniss and Peeta never would have been together if they hadn't been reaped (or she hadn't volunteered) is also not very smart, because it quite literally doesn't matter. These are the events that happen in the book and the alter Peeta and Katniss' understanding of both one another and the world at large. 2 hunger games and a rebellion is bound to fundamentally change a person in some way.

Trying to move on from Everlark and live my life but I just started thinking about how Peeta just went for all the flirting in book 1 starting immediately after the reaping (hand squeeze on stage)—how every romcom cliche (buttoning her in his coat, holding her hand, making her laugh, telling her she’s pretty wearing flames) came so easily to him once he decided he was allowed to stop hiding his feelings—and finally how it was so natural because he’d already been dreaming of doing all of those things for so long.
