Hello :) I have an assignment to pick at least 3 awesome illustrators who use social media to promote their illustration careers. So, here they are. Pleasepleaseplease GO and CHECK THEM OUT!
This is an artist I LOVE. He is one of my biggest artistic inspiration at the moment. (My hero ATM) He uses various social media to promote his unique art; DeviantArt, Dribble, Tumblr, Twitter and Behance. His official website is very well organized and easy to find the sections. I like that he has the online shop for his work on his website so it would be easy for the viewers to click and buy the artwork. Also, he updates the upcoming events which I thought it was interesting way to promote himself. I think he made his other social media websites similar to each other to keep the constancy. I like how they are easy to click to view and one way scroll down type. Also on every website he owns, there a section to contact him by email or message him. Also he puts stuff often on twitter so it is helpful to get updated with him through that. I think most of the social media he is using is successful.
Victo Ngai is an artist I fell in love once I saw her work. She is my favorite illustrator. (and plus she is young...so she makes me push myself so much) She is on Tumblr, Twitter,Facebook, Drawger. Her official website consist of her old work but it is really clean and well organized so it is easy to view her work at one glance. However, the top fonts that categorize the home/about/awards/ and so on is very small and thin so I don't think it works on her website well. I love her tumblr since it is scroll down type and you can view all of her work in one scroll. She puts a some rough sketches of her actual final pieces and I think on tumblr, she puts almost everything. Also I think it was neat that she put the latest tweets of her on her tumblr. She uses twitter a lot sharing what she likes and finds interesting. I like her Drawger website since it is clean and it is more towards her editorial work. She shares the process of her work on the website. i really enjoy watching how she edited and tweaked some of her work there. Also she shows how the final piece got on the editorial work. I think her social media usage is very successful.
Owen Davey is an artist I have been following his work for a while. He updated his official website few weeks ago and I love the website. It is very well organized and shows some of his most recent works on one big block shapes so is it easy to view and easy to click on. He is on Twitter, Tumblr, Behance, and Dribble. He keeps the websites simple and has consistent theme throughout (white background all the way). I think he made a really smart move on making his website simple since his portfolio is colorful. The white background makes his work pop out more. He uses twitter often so it is easy to reach him through twitter. Overall I think he uses his social media pretty well to promote himself. (it's a secret that I have an artist crush on him :3)
