May 20, 2026 - White-tufted Sunbeam (Aglaeactis castelnaudii) These hummingbirds are found in mountain forests in Peru. They feed on nectar from a variety of plants, clinging to flowers while they eat, and capture insects in the air. While nothing is known about their breeding behavior, female hummingbirds typically build nests and care for chicks alone. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN as their population is declining in their small range due to habitat loss.
