An Ocean
I know you.
When we meet it’s like wake on a long shore;
The waves look big from far away, but instead of crashing you just rise over meÂ
like a flood on a smooth rock city.Â
And I wish this wasn’t a familiar feeling,
But like the shore to the sea,
I feel there is no you if not inevitably coming for me.Â
After all these years you’d think I’d brace for you,
See you coming,
Be warned,
Maybe flee,
But in the end I’m just a rock - both smooth and jagged,
Worn down but resolute,
And always with something more you can take from me.
