Restoring the Apu Trilogy would take a “painstaking process including lab work, digital wizardry and world-spanning detective work, resulting in one of cinema’s greatest resurrection stories. That’s where the Criterion Collection came in.”

While it is usually seen as a fixed art form, calligraphy is very much about mastering space, movement and speed. As filmmakers, it seemed only natural to use video as a way to reveal the beauty of strokes and colors appearing on paper. Michel D'anastasio’s work is equally abstract, lyrical and modern, and it is the inspiration behind this art film.
