1. destiny's child - bug a boo // been on a destiny's child binge lately even tho i had a few of their songs already saved but for some reason this song jumpstarted something in me
2. torn - letoya luckett // ooooh, oh my god. the way she faded in the background after being kicked out of destiny's child then randomly popped out with this after they broke up and snagged a number one album oh legendtoya
3. hey dude - shinhwa // yes i still love shinhwa what can i say
4. dumb - the 411 // shoutout to UK girl groups my favorite gender
5. confessions - destiny's child // okay last DC song fr but this song is so chill while she sings about cheating on a man
sometimes (most of the times) i'll listen to domoto's really popular songs and i think "why is this one of their big hits?" but then i relisten and i think "oh that's why they have that record for most number ones" (also el oh el at the music video being completely mismatched from the song)
2. halation summer - coconuts musume
first of all boooo at this song being blocked internationally on youtube, jpop restrictiveness strikes again >:/ second of all, the concept of this group is soooo funny because hello!project really decided to take these 5 girls who can hardly sing out of hawaii and put them on the jumbotron in tokyo despite most of them not knowing a lick of japanese 😭 idk what ever made them think this train wreck of a group would work out but i'm still glad it exists because then we get songs like this and dance & chance (word to tsunku, i'm waiting patiently for that new rhythm heaven next year)
3. december love - kiichi yokoyama
finally a song that's more appropriate for this time of year lol also beware of that cover art when you search up this song. kiichi yokoyama is soooo underrated to me i wish those nerds that make those "80s city pop songs to study to" playlists would add him in maybe he'd get some recognition idk.
4. emotion - destiny's child
liked the madtv parody so i had to listen to the real thing duh! everyone talks about beyoncé and michelle's parts but kelly's opening verse is my favorite, i think that was the chill, melancholic vibe this song should've went with (the live versions of the song are much better tho)
5. message - kinki kids/domoto
was gonna try and leave this song off but i'm too obsessed idc i love the optimism and it came at just the right moment in my life

Currently Reading: it's been forever since i cracked open a book whoops but last year our power was for 2 days bc of a hurricane so while i sat in the dark i read The Risk Pool by Richard Russo... had that book since 2022 and still haven't finished btw
