@inalivingroom-blog
I entirely forgot that this blog existed. Anyway, here's a video of my band playing.
WFMU Record Fair
The WFMU Record Fair was awesome. You should give them money so that they can keep being the greatest radio station the currently exists.
Records I bought:
Cherub Rock single - Smashing Pumpkins
Never Mind The Ballots LP - Chumbawamba
PiL EP - Public Image Limited
The Head On The Door LP - The Cure
Clown Vomit LP - Clown Vomit
Seether single - Veruca Salt
Plus I got some really really cool coasters! One has the cover of Goo by Sonic Youth on it and the other has the cover of Doolittle by Pixies on it.
New Toys May Lay Ahead
I've been hoping to get me a new guitar and amp, if my dad'll be so kind as to contribute a considerable amount of funds.
I went to Ludlow Guitars today (check em out, by the way, if you're in New York. All the guys are really cool and helpful, and the place has a real good vibe), and I've fallen in love with the Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore signature Jazzmasters (yes, more Sonic Youth).
For those untaught in the variety of guitars out there (as I was until very recently), these are two special releases of Fender's very popular Jazzmaster electric guitar. I'm leaning more towards the Lee Ranaldo version because humbuckers make me wet, but they're both a really great-feeling guitar.
As far as amps go, I'll be back to try some of those out later this week, but the ones I used today were the Fender Deluxe, a low-watt Mercury, and a Marshall amp the name of which I can't remember for the life of me. All tube amps, the Mercury may have been my favourite.
In the meantime, please, salivate.
Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon announced their split a couple of days ago. If there's a God, Sonic Youth won't do the same.
And they thought I was taking notes.
Raisans - Dinosaur Jr
One of the greatest songs ever put to tape. My friend recently introduced me to some 80s alternative punk rock, and though I've known and loved Dinosaur Jr for a long time already I decided to listen to some of their earlier stuff as well (seemed fitting). This song in particular I have fallen in love with and listen to over and over again.
So I started using Spotify.
Their selection is a little lacking, but it's still a cool concept.
Also, once a month seems to be a good track record so far.
Pocketwatch
In 1992, Dave Grohl recorded a solo album under the pseudonym Late! that he titled Pocketwatch. I am currently listening to it and it is amazing. Imagine Nirvana crossed with the first Foos album, because shit, that's pretty much exactly what it is. Read up on it. And if you're resourceful enough, listen to it.
Stormy Weather - Pixies
I know this is a repost, but I had to. We here in New York take our hurricanes seriously, probably because they happen about once a lifetime and a half, and so I must commemorate my good friend Hurricane Irene (she's not really my good friend).
Like A Pen - The Knife
A little more upbeat, a little more dance. This is another great song by The Knife and another reason I totally love this band.
A Little Touch Up
For my marathon. Turns out that a youtube link doesn't work for an audio post. This means that three of the songs I posted for the marathon wouldn't play. And I am so sorry for that. As a re-reimbursement I have reposted these three as video posts and I am going to post one more addition later tonight. Who's a cool guy? I'm a cool guy.
Elišce - Tata Bojs
Another band I saw at Colours of Ostrava, these guys are actually Czech and I knew of them even before the festival. Somewhat iconic in the Czech Republic, they've been around since the late 80's, early 90's, and are just a very good rock group. Not affecting my decision to post them here at all is that we come from the same hometown, Prague.
1979 - Smashing Pumpkins
This song is so pretty and sad. The Smashing Pumpkins have grown to have such a varied repertoire, most probably because of the constant shifting of the band’s chemistry and various incarnations. This song is from 1995, and perhaps the last album the Smashing Pumpkins released as the entire, original Smashing Pumpkins. It is also definitely one of their best.
