         the desire to apologize was like a reflex, but she was quick to swallow it down  –  she didn't need to apologize for anything when she hadn't actually done anything wrong.  it was a bad habit that she was finally getting over.  instead, the blonde exhales and nods her head.  ❝ yes, i know. ❞  she looks down at the flowers in her hand.  they never would apologize for basking in the sunlight even when they had been cursed.  she should do the same.  ❝ ankou  ..  i don't  ..  want you to do that. ❞  he had shouldered enough, she'd like to think.  there was no doubt he could shoulder much and more  –  but she wouldn't want someone who had already done so much to shoulder any more.  he deserved to feel peace, if not happiness.

         ❝ the reminder, and listening to me is more than enough. ❞   as brief as she had known him, she was grateful for his patience.  that was enough after he had saved her.  slowly the dirt below her feet turned into familiar path as she walked  ..  many times she had wandered back and forth just to visit the flowers, and other than the color of them, they still greeted her with the same kindness.  it was always a nice thought that even while things were changing upon the island, the flowers would always feel so kind.

               THE SHAKE OF THE HEAD    you realize it with an " oh, jeez ", and a quiet shake of your head.   you're a different type of  " i've always known ".   you're the sort to acknowledge it and believe you're unworthy.   you think they deserve better, you think they ought to find someone better, even if their version of the best is reflected in the mirror every time you dress up to go out with them.   you think you're not fit for them, not their better half, but they can't bring themselves to tell you that they don't want a 'better' half, they want YOU.   but until they can bring that up to you, you'll wait.   an eternity by their side shouldn't be so bad.

              blood.  the iron scent is all too familiar to ceres, much like the rotting sight of death.  something was wrong.  she could feel it, somehow, and worries that someone could be in trouble.  following her gut, she had rounded corner, heels of her shoes quietly tapping upon the ground until she finally found the source of what had caught her curiosity.  body, slumped over  ..  whether it was their blood that she was seeing, or another's –  she's not quite certain.  she stands frozen, grey eyes wide and throat dry.  she wants to say something, but words remain trapped.  in truth, ceres even fears stepping too close, but she can't budge from her own spot to even move backwards, or search for help  ..  well, until her body does decide to move.  each step is careful, cautious as she approaches against her better judgment.  click  ..  click  ..  click  ..  she can see movement in the body : clear signs of life, but she doesn't know how grievous the wounds might be. 

          it's difficult to discern much from the dark shadows of the surroundings.     ❝ um .. ❞     ceres finally finds her voice long enough to actually speak.  she casts her gaze around, searching for any immediate danger before crouching and tilting her head to try and get a glimpse of their face.     ❝ h- hello .. ? ❞     courage has clearly escaped her grasp, and she keeps a bit of distance between herself and the body, her heart racing as she tries to form coherent thoughts.  if not for the obvious signs of blood  (  plenty of it, in fact.  )  she might have been able to react with less hesitation.

          while i'm typing some other ic stuff, i'm once again bringing up the headcanon i've had for ceres that  ..  she just naturally has a subtle floral scent to her due to her having the genes of the lycoris.  her blood, however, is much stronger in scent : almost nauseatingly so in how sweet it is, depending on how bad the toxins are within her.  however, this is one of the only few noticeable characteristics of the lycoris that she has  (  although depending on the verse : she either does not know why this is, or in other verses she will know, but will refuse to admit / answer about it  –  mainly for her own protection.  )

she is so incredibly strong.ㅤankou seems to have forgotten that about her.ㅤeven when there is melancholy laced betwixt lonesome words, she still has the will to be considerate of the position others were in. he had no clue what truly drove this compassion in her,ㅤ&ㅤfor that, nothing but respectㅤ&ㅤadmiration flows from ankou. despite those words, his eyes squint pleasantly.ㅤcertainly hiding away a smile of his own.ㅤ" but it is a pleasure to know that despite your past woes, your heart remains true to your character. " compassionate, understanding, gentle, kind. all of these things have shaped ceres into the woman she is now.

when the conversation directs itself to himㅤ;ㅤ however , the watchman is unsure how to respond. " if it is my presence you hope to partake of, i shall remain for as long as you require, my dear ceres. " if she required company should she visit her mother then he would offer it, if she simply required a companion to jouney with her as she revisited old memories.ㅤthen she shall have it.

but the book that is offered up to him silences words of offer unable to be spoken.ㅤpoetry . . . . it was not something he often indulged in, for the words of poetry often evoked an emotion now foreign to him.ㅤbut a gift denied is a kindness abandoned.ㅤhesitant hands unveil themselves from long sleeves, where digits trace the spine of worn readings, ankou takes it with caution.             grey eyes assess, then rest to the flowers before them, whites with the occasional splash of red between and untainted by the toxins from the soil.  they appeared carefree, and in a sense–  as if they were offering encouragement.  ceres wishes not to be selfish, as she knows he's not meant to be on the surface for long  ..  but having returned after her time away, she can't help but to feel a little nervous with ankou's company a familiar comfort.  even if arpechele had changed, he had not.

            ❝ i would be happy if you came with me. ❞    with that, she knelt down to the ground momentarily to grab a few of the flowers and gather them into her hands, no signs of death following them.  she reaches a hand out to gently touch those in the bouquet, before standing to her short height once again.  if she was going to visit salome and dahut's grave, she wanted to bring something with.  after being gone so long, it would almost seem a little cruel to not bring something as a gift to the woman who had raised her and been the closest to family that she ever had.

          ❝ i wanted to visit the orphanage  ..  mother and dahut's graves as well. ❞   gloomy is a word that many had used to describe ceres, but slowly  –  ever so slowly, she was beginning to show some happiness between the cracks.    ❝ i was thinking on my way back to arpeche.  um  ..  i don't know if i'm going to continue traveling, or if i'll stay. ❞    while it was a decision that only she could make on her own, she wanted to hear what he might have to say.  wanted to hear his thoughts on the matter.    ❝ i sometimes feel selfish .. going out and exploring.  i can't deny that it makes me happy to see so much of the world, but some part of me misses the orphanage.  no, not just that .. my friends, most of all–  and the children. ❞    few as there were, they all equally were important to her.  the children, however–  she wanted to protect them.  just as she had been protected and sheltered during a time when no one else would take her in.

i mean this with all the love in the world, but y'all seriously need to start engaging with the people on your dashboard.

i'm calling out everyone here, even myself. it's a widespread attitude in the rpc that's contributing majorly to this place growing more and more inactive.

"teehee i'm a forgetful rper, keep sending me things while i reply to nothing ever" doesn't cut it.

yes, you're forgetful and tired and busy and dealing with health issues. i get that. but you're not the only one dealing with those things. your mutuals are busy and tired and dealing with health conditions too.

it's unreasonable to expect everyone else to keep reaching out to you when you don't reciprocate.

check your dms every now and then, try to contribute to conversations about plotting, send memes and reply to the memes that people send to you.

stop sitting and waiting passively for everyone to reach out first and realize everyone else is doing the same thing.

it's frustrating and exhausting (and frankly disrespectful) to the handful of people in the rpc that do actively try to reach out to others and engage.

and i could go on a tangent on how people writing certain type of muses can get away with doing this because they have people flocking to them wanting to rp (and let's be real, ship) with their muse while people writing other kind of muses have to put 1000% times more work just to get people to reply to their dms. but i'm going to leave it at that.

just take a moment to reflect on this and try to do better.
