glaring headlights danced across several stained, withered down curtains as he pulled into a vacant parking spot. at one point, he was almost certain, these curtains were pearl white. if this was truly the location she had been temporarily sheltering herself at, he could almost pity her. i’ll be doing her more of a service than anything else, putting this girl out of her misery, he thought. it had been an exhaustingly long and treacherous five months, and the longest period of time kai spent away from home. home was a funny word for it, washington d.c. and his little one bedroom apartment, but it was home nonetheless for the last decade.
nobody had put up quite the chase such as this one has. kai couldn’t believe that her whereabouts continued to be unknown, and any time he believed he may have finally found the lead to end it all and bring him to her, it turned out to be yet another instance of getting there too slow, and too late. when he’d come to think of it, nobody else had the knowledge already that others would be after them. she was a fugitive after all, something to do with murdering her boyfriend by burning him alive. a miserable fate to submit to. as of right now, clover fiammetta was top priority to return to the fbi, as she killed one of their own. if he failed to return her alive, then he would be failing his family, and that was something he hasn’t done in the last ten years; he wasn’t about to do it today.
darkness swallowed his figure whole as he stepped out of his vehicle and patted down his wardrobe. a single light flickered over the lot, not helping kai’s vision whatsoever while he surveyed the run down motel for any sort of front office. he may not have spotted one, but he did recognize almost immediately when his eyes fell upon her, the very person he’d come here for — clover. all of this running and chasing, and yet here she was, casually enjoying some food in an equally run down, attached diner, that created an ‘L’ formation with the building. kai straightened himself out to appear normal and relaxed while he neared the diner, not wanting to create any reason to arise suspicion and lose her right as he has her. clover was different, a unique kind of mission, as this was the first request he’d gotten where he wasn’t intended on killing the suspect. once he’s fortunately seated behind the other, he craftily and swiftly lured a pen into his possession from a cup beside the register, and confiscated the nearby napkin to write her a message.
do not yell or make any sudden moves.
come sit two tables back with me.
try to run and you will be quickly stopped, then i’ll kill every person here
kai was curious to see just how willing and cooperative she would be. he had actually hoped she would easily comply, and not be naive enough to follow her impulses and attempt escape. the last thing the boy wanted to do was slaughter innocent people, which he’d NEVER done, and never would do - but he didn’t want to give off the impression that he places empty threats either. one glance around the room confirmed no eyes lingered on him, and he comfortably slid the napkin over to her table and directly in her line of vision, with the help of his own special ability.
Clover, sat alone in a dingy and cold hunter green booth. The paint chipping to revel little bits of tarnished silver underneath. Her presence was illuminated by the harsh glow of the iridescent lights overhead. Clover, was mindlessly chewing on a greasy burger. This was the first meal, Clover, had consumed in almost six months that wasn’t eaten behind closed doors of a dimly lit hotel room. It was an odd pleasure. Clover, felt almost normal. Which was a feeling, she had deeply yearned for since the day, no second, she dashed from the home she and her boyfriend had built for themselves.
Clover, still had a hard time accepting her fate. She was a fugitive, there was no way else to explain her situation. She had killed one of America’s bravest and America was angry. Clover, was on every wanted list known to man. Luckily, she had been slick, the perks of dating an FBI agent was knowing how to avoid an FBI agent. The keys to success, never use a cellphone, never use any form of payment besides cash, never create friendships, and most importantly, never. call. home. Besides, Clover, was truly hiding from her parents more than the FBI. She didn’t want them to know who she truly was. Clover, couldn’t bare to think about them knowing that she had powers. It grossed, Clover, out to even think about her ability. So, of course, it would gross her parent’s out. She was their legacy, and a murderous legacy was better than the truth of whatever Clover actually was. Because, she was shameful.
Clover, saw a note slide into her gaze. The movement jerked her fast from the depths of her thoughts and feelings. ‘How was this happening’, she thought to herself. Notes did not move by themselves, things like that didn’t exist. But, neither did balls of fire flying from someone’s palms. So, Clover, accepted the reality and grasped the note. Curiosity, now, enveloped the girl’s mind. She started to read the note and with every line passing by the realization hit her. She had been found.
How did this happen? I had been careful – so so careful. Were the only two sentence running through her mind. But, Clover, knew the why didn’t matter now, she was presented with a choice; either she run and say fuck the lot or she stay and finally give up on the chase. She was tired, after all, she had been running for six months. Her body was warn downed and dark circles started to form under her eyes from the lack of sleep. But, was she ready to let everything come crashing down? Clover, wasn’t sure, because for the first time in her life she was being reckless. Even if she was trapped by a chase she felt almost free.
Clover, decided to make a third choice. One, where she was partly in command. She wanted to see what her possible captor was made of. If he would truly follow through with his threat of offing another. She wasn’t the type to risk another’s life but in the realm of surviving casualties happen. Clover, lifted herself from her tiny booth as she crumpled the note in the depths of her palms. The harsh plastic edges of her ruby red wig brushing against her bony shoulders. She sat herself in the booth closest to the door that gave her a clear view of the other’s back. Clover, lifted her hand with the note tight inside. Her whole body shook from the intensity of the situation and the slight breeze that swept through the air from the air conditioner. Why were diners always cold? With that thought, Clover, threw the note back at the other. The crumpled piece of paper bounced off the other’s dark head and rolled onto the floor. Clover, wasn’t sure what was about to go down but she knew she truly wasn’t ready to give up hotel hopping and hiding.
