–Clover’s back stiffened at the mention of her parents, there was no way they were brought into her mess for more than simple questioning. They had nothing to do with her grievances. But, she couldn’t be sure. The government were ruthless when it meant getting what they wanted. They would use every tool they had – no matter how innocent. Clover, let a large gulp slide down her large throat as every ounce of false confidence slowly faded from her being. She was kidding herself if she thought she could keep up the act. Clover, was anything but confident. She didn’t test people – not when it meant her parents were possibly in danger. In truth, Clover, would risk her life if it meant her parents were free. Clover’s parents were her everything now. She had lost the one person who loved her despite her blemishes, at mercy of her own hands. The wig clad girl, was not going to be the cause of endangering more of her loved ones.
Clover’s voice stayed calm and quiet. She didn’t want any bystanders to hear the tense conversation being exchanged by the unlikely duo. “Why exactly would my parents be in any danger? They’ve done nothing but be related to a poor excuse of a daughter. –” Clover, trailed off for a brief moment as her thoughts swirled around her own self pity. God, she was pathetic…– A sharp inhalation swam through Clover’s petite nose as she regained her train of thought and continued on speaking, “Is the government really that desperate to catch m e, it’s willing to murder two innocent people? How patriotic.” A deep furrow seeped across her prominently dark brows. There wasn’t an ounce of confidence behind her words. But, Clover, be damned if she didn’t try and toy around with the gentleman just a little bit.
admittedly, the white lie he exaggerated concerning her parents’ sake, was nothing more than a ploy to gain the momentum in this conversation and create some obedience in clover. “ murdering them would be the kinder thing to do, it’s what they do when you’re alive that’s more —— patriotic. “ lies quickly evolved into truths as he took an innocent sip of his lackluster coffee following such an earnest statement, momentarily breaking eye contact. “ so listen, clover, “ kai retook control, clearing his throat as to make each and every word perfectly clear, “ your scorched lover was found, very evidently having been burned alive, and immediately after, your disappearance surfaces. everyone questioned, including your parents, all appeared shocked and disturbed by the news. from what i’ve pieced together, you two were very close — and then one day, he’s dead, and you’re gone. “ palms that were once distanced at either end of the table now molded into one, as kai folded his hands and rested them amongst the chilly table top. “ now, i have been following you for five consecutive months. there have been no further corpses left rotting out in your trail, there has been zero suspicious activity — which, i believe, made it even more difficult to get to you sooner — “ with now widened eyes, kai nodded his head off to the side while he gave clover her much earned credit.
“ — whatever the story, my case in point here is that, i don’t buy you’re a malicious killer. i wanted to put this assumption to the test by threatening the innocent folk working here. and although i’m still a little confused as to whether or not you truly did abide, you’re sat there speaking with me and haven’t run yet. i think that’s a good sign. so, all i ask is that, what is your story, clover? what happened that day and how did it end in such a tragedy?” there had been no denying the fact that, despite never having exchanged a single word prior to this very moment, kai developed a sense of acquaintanceship with the present red-head. five months, twenty-two weeks, one hundred fifty-two days. that’s the amount of time that clover was a dominating factor in kai’s life. he’d met family, he’d met friends, he’d met co-workers, old teachers, neighbors, etc. unknowing to her, kai had been living in the lowest point of what he imagined to be her life alongside her. this entire nightmare, kai, too, was tethered to. with exhaustion and the ever so governing feeling of home sickness weighing heavily upon his tattered mind, he also yearned for this all to reach its conclusion. though, now that the story appears to be at its peak, the usually domineering hunter realized he’s hesitant in his goal to apprehend the suspect. curiosity grew tenfold with each passing month, the truth behind her tale had become something kai wanted to gain access to from the actual source. stories, her history — none of it could ever logically equate to the events which occurred that night. “ what was it that had you pushed over the edge and light your whole house on fire, and with him in it? “

Clover, sat alone in a dingy and cold hunter green booth. The paint chipping to revel little bits of tarnished silver underneath. Her presence was illuminated by the harsh glow of the iridescent lights overhead. Clover, was mindlessly chewing on a greasy burger. This was the first meal, Clover, had consumed in almost six months that wasn’t eaten behind closed doors of a dimly lit hotel room. It was an odd pleasure. Clover, felt almost normal. Which was a feeling, she had deeply yearned for since the day, no second, she dashed from the home she and her boyfriend had built for themselves.
Clover, still had a hard time accepting her fate. She was a fugitive, there was no way else to explain her situation. She had killed one of America’s bravest and America was angry. Clover, was on every wanted list known to man. Luckily, she had been slick, the perks of dating an FBI agent was knowing how to avoid an FBI agent. The keys to success, never use a cellphone, never use any form of payment besides cash, never create friendships, and most importantly, never. call. home. Besides, Clover, was truly hiding from her parents more than the FBI. She didn’t want them to know who she truly was. Clover, couldn’t bare to think about them knowing that she had powers. It grossed, Clover, out to even think about her ability. So, of course, it would gross her parent’s out. She was their legacy, and a murderous legacy was better than the truth of whatever Clover actually was. Because, she was shameful.
Clover, saw a note slide into her gaze. The movement jerked her fast from the depths of her thoughts and feelings. ‘How was this happening’, she thought to herself. Notes did not move by themselves, things like that didn’t exist. But, neither did balls of fire flying from someone’s palms. So, Clover, accepted the reality and grasped the note. Curiosity, now, enveloped the girl’s mind. She started to read the note and with every line passing by the realization hit her. She had been found.
How did this happen? I had been careful – so so careful. Were the only two sentence running through her mind. But, Clover, knew the why didn’t matter now, she was presented with a choice; either she run and say fuck the lot or she stay and finally give up on the chase. She was tired, after all, she had been running for six months. Her body was warn downed and dark circles started to form under her eyes from the lack of sleep. But, was she ready to let everything come crashing down? Clover, wasn’t sure, because for the first time in her life she was being reckless. Even if she was trapped by a chase she felt almost free.
Clover, decided to make a third choice. One, where she was partly in command. She wanted to see what her possible captor was made of. If he would truly follow through with his threat of offing another. She wasn’t the type to risk another’s life but in the realm of surviving casualties happen. Clover, lifted herself from her tiny booth as she crumpled the note in the depths of her palms. The harsh plastic edges of her ruby red wig brushing against her bony shoulders. She sat herself in the booth closest to the door that gave her a clear view of the other’s back. Clover, lifted her hand with the note tight inside. Her whole body shook from the intensity of the situation and the slight breeze that swept through the air from the air conditioner. Why were diners always cold? With that thought, Clover, threw the note back at the other. The crumpled piece of paper bounced off the other’s dark head and rolled onto the floor. Clover, wasn’t sure what was about to go down but she knew she truly wasn’t ready to give up hotel hopping and hiding.
a certain coldness glossed his hues as they were fixated upon the back of clover so fiercely, anxiety over what decision was dominating the battle in her mind became more and more difficult to fight off. his message was, much like his appearance and stature, very contradictory to his more reluctant personality. kai could do nothing, only helplessly and silently hope that she abide by his threat, and make do on her part of the deal. all she had to do was sit across from him — it was that simple. truthfully, no amount of information he absorbed through interviews involving fellow fbi agents who knew her through her boyfriend, and her family, could prepare him for what course of action she ventures down when their paths ultimately crossed. when she rose before him, he could’ve sworn his breath became hitched in his throat for nothing short of a single second. unsure of whether he be on guard and brace for defense, or he relax and slide into this conversation with ease, kai’s gaze was stubborn in its straightforward direction regardless, even amidst clover passing right by the black clad male. as he gulped his nerves down, he felt the napkin abruptly bounce from the back of his head. the unsuspecting act alone pulled his attention away to shift upon his rounded shoulder instead, not entirely glancing back at her. did this mean she... accepts?, he thought, entirely puzzled as to what sort of read he should be taking away from this response.
she’s lucky there are people around, otherwise, he would bring her by force to the chair before him, whether she accepted his ‘invitation’, or not. yet, he’s pursued her for months and months, what were two tables compared to hundreds of highways and back roads? as stubborn as he was, he also wasn’t, because a majority of the time, he couldn’t afford to be. kai begrudgingly mimicked her actions and arose from his seat. as to not confuse the limited number of staff preoccupied with mundane tasks, kai reassured them, “ i’ll actually be eating with my old friend here. “ there was the ever-so faintest tease of a smirk twitching at the corner of his lips, an unlikely sight from kai himself, but there was the hint of confidence becoming strongly present within as he gloated in the triumphant victory that he’d got her pegged. clover hadn’t the slightest inkling of who she was trying to make a joke out of. “ clover fiammetta.“ her name rolled off of his tongue with such familiarity and ease, while he pulled the chair out in front of her and took his seat. “ we’re red now? is there meant to be some sort of irony behind this? “
no difference in hair color provided by a wig could make those uniquely distinguishable features unnoticeable; her eyebrows alone stood out so dominantly above everything else, just like in the photos. there was something about studying the image of a person for such an extended period of time, and then finally meeting them face to face, that created this feeling of disbelief for him. “ where should we begin? of course, you anticipate i ask about your ex-boyfriend. but let’s start with a topic that i know will get you to listen, and quit your games, as well as this chase ——— your parents. “ he could relate with familial love; hell, his own family was the sole reason behind this very meeting to begin with. “ i understand they haven’t heard from you since around the time right before you committed murder. don’t you want to know how they’re doing? what they wanted me to say to you when i would find you? what they think of the whole story we had to tell them? “ softer hazel eyes lifted from his curiously tapping finger to meet her expression, analyzing it for any sort of genuine reaction at the mention of loved ones. at first glance, he wouldn’t take her for a stone-cold killer, and especially not one who would entirely torch their longtime lover. but then again, most never took him for what he was either. looks are deceiving, and after all, she’s currently trying to deceive her own. “ it’s been too long, clover. i don’t think you understand the danger you are putting them in the longer you continue this cat and mouse game. “

glaring headlights danced across several stained, withered down curtains as he pulled into a vacant parking spot. at one point, he was almost certain, these curtains were pearl white. if this was truly the location she had been temporarily sheltering herself at, he could almost pity her. i’ll be doing her more of a service than anything else, putting this girl out of her misery, he thought. it had been an exhaustingly long and treacherous five months, and the longest period of time kai spent away from home. home was a funny word for it, washington d.c. and his little one bedroom apartment, but it was home nonetheless for the last decade.
nobody had put up quite the chase such as this one has. kai couldn’t believe that her whereabouts continued to be unknown, and any time he believed he may have finally found the lead to end it all and bring him to her, it turned out to be yet another instance of getting there too slow, and too late. when he’d come to think of it, nobody else had the knowledge already that others would be after them. she was a fugitive after all, something to do with murdering her boyfriend by burning him alive. a miserable fate to submit to. as of right now, clover fiammetta was top priority to return to the fbi, as she killed one of their own. if he failed to return her alive, then he would be failing his family, and that was something he hasn’t done in the last ten years; he wasn’t about to do it today.
darkness swallowed his figure whole as he stepped out of his vehicle and patted down his wardrobe. a single light flickered over the lot, not helping kai’s vision whatsoever while he surveyed the run down motel for any sort of front office. he may not have spotted one, but he did recognize almost immediately when his eyes fell upon her, the very person he’d come here for — clover. all of this running and chasing, and yet here she was, casually enjoying some food in an equally run down, attached diner, that created an ‘L’ formation with the building. kai straightened himself out to appear normal and relaxed while he neared the diner, not wanting to create any reason to arise suspicion and lose her right as he has her. clover was different, a unique kind of mission, as this was the first request he’d gotten where he wasn’t intended on killing the suspect. once he’s fortunately seated behind the other, he craftily and swiftly lured a pen into his possession from a cup beside the register, and confiscated the nearby napkin to write her a message. do not yell or make any sudden moves. come sit two tables back with me. try to run and you will be quickly stopped, then i’ll kill every person here kai was curious to see just how willing and cooperative she would be. he had actually hoped she would easily comply, and not be naive enough to follow her impulses and attempt escape. the last thing the boy wanted to do was slaughter innocent people, which he’d NEVER done, and never would do - but he didn’t want to give off the impression that he places empty threats either. one glance around the room confirmed no eyes lingered on him, and he comfortably slid the napkin over to her table and directly in her line of vision, with the help of his own special ability.
