Dear Travelodge Brighton Seafront, You ruined an otherwise lovely anniversary break with my fiancé. I appreciate that no business wants a negative review. But don't lie to your customers. Don't judge people on their appearance. Your cleaners were pleasant people who don't hold the snobbish values of your other staff. I want to warn other people how rude a certain member of staff was and the fact she felt entitled to turn us away from the 'restaurant/cafe' with frankly PATHETIC excuses. "We don't start serving dinner until six." - Sign literally a few feet behind me says 5 pm - 10 pm. Menu (online and in the building) says 5 pm - 10 pm. It's 5.40 pm approx when this is occurring. I inform my partner, we agree to wait in the chairs nearby until 6 pm. "Oh.. Well we're VERY busy tonight. Lot's of bookings. Might be better to come back at 6.30 pm." She says. We agree that we will wait at the bar and have a few soft drinks until then. "It would be better if you waited in your room until 6.30 pm as we are VERY busy tonight." She says. I look around the room at the ONE FAMILY she has just seated and who have paid for their meal without problem. There is NOBODY in any of the other seats. We go up to our room, wait until 6.30 pm, return, and see there are at least 30+ seats available. It's looking as busy as it's going to get with maybe twelve people at most. The same woman sees us again (after at least ten minutes waiting at the seating sign point) and informs us that they are still VERY BUSY and it would be best if we just went back up to our room and returned at 7.30 pm. That was enough. We both knew that what little food selection they over charged for was NOT worth the wait, and being told, again, that this empty restaurant was INCREDIBLY BUSY. And it remained as baron when we returned over an hour later to get changed for our evening out. In fact, not ONCE in our stay did we see it really being used. Maybe because such snobbish behaviour sends the money flying out the door to places of better quality. Don't look me up and down and judge that I am not suitable to eat in a baron hotel 'cafe/restaurant' because I am wearing a a normal top, jeans, and shoes. There was no stated dress code. There was no informing of any dress code. If you want a business to function, do not employ someone like this. I've turned up at better places dressed MUCH worse, and my money has been just fine there. P.S; Maybe you could use the money you save in wages for that member of staff to actually pay for at least one fully functioning elevator. Just a thought.
