        open starter

                she         didn’t         know         lillian         …         or,         maybe         she         did.         her         father         was         a         lawyer,         too.         she         honestly         couldn’t         remember         what         she         had         for         breakfast         sometimes,         other         than         oxycodone.         catherine         stepped         out         of         an         officer’s         way,         but         the         footfall         was         a         little         too         hard         on         her         bad         knee         and         she         stumbled         a         bit,         right         into         the         solid         body         of         a         person.         turning         quickly,         she         mumbled         an         apology         and         took         in         their         appearance.         she         recognized         them,         vaguely.         in         the         spirit         of         not         looking         absolutely         blasted         on         a         cocktail         of         painkillers         and         peach         schnapps’,         she         offered         a         friendly         nod.         “         weird,         huh?         ”

               the  apology  seems  to  catch  lázaro  of  guard,  which  should  say  something  entirely  about  the  way  he’s  perceived  in  the  town.  he  wraps  his  hands  around  catherine’s  arm  to  try  and  make  sure  that  she’s  stabilized.  the  last  thing  that  he  needs  is  someone  falling  around  him,  or  worse,  if  people  are  watching.  “  which  part  is  weird  exactly  ?  ”  his  brows  push  together  as  he  asks  the  question.  it  can  be  just  the  death  of  lillian  or  the  fact  that  one  of  the  town  witches  is  here.  he  can  never  be  too  sure.  “  if  you  mean  the  body  ,  then  yes  ,  but  not  much  weirder  than  all  of  the  other  deaths  that  have  happened  around  here.   ”

don’t  worry  ,  i  know  how  these  work  .  my  name  is  ignacio  suarez  . 

federal agent miller: what time did you arrive this evening?

on  the  early  side  ,  around  4pm  .

federal agent miller:  are there any witnesses who can corroborate your answer? anyone you spoke to tonight? anyone you arrived with?

i  came  alone  ,  but  i  spoke  with  a  couple  of  people  .  spoke  to  a  girl  named  rose  and  got  her  a  drink  ,  minerva  ,  and  also  got  a  drink  with  vinnie  . 

federal agent miller:  did you see the victim, lillian jo, at or around this event tonight?

no  ,  i  did  not.

federal agent miller:  do you directly know the victim?

i’ve  lived  here  all  of  my  life  ,  so  i’ve  seen  her  around  ,  but  i  wouldn’t  say  i  knew  her  .

federal agent miller:  (if yes) how do you know the victim? were you and the victim on good terms? (if no, ignore.)

if  she  had  any  flowers  delivered  ,  there’s  a  chance  i  took  them  to  her  .

federal agent miller:  what do you do for a living?

i’m  a  florist  and  volunteer  at  the  graveyard  from  time  to  time  .

federal agent miller: thank you for cooperating, this is the last question. do you know anyone who may have wanted to harm or kill the victim?

i  didn’t  ,  but  i  doubt  anyone  would  tell  me  of  their  plans.

lázaro  pimentel  ,  do  you  want  my  zodiac  sign  to  make  this  easier  ? 

federal agent miller: what time did you arrive this evening?

i  got  here  late  ,  somewhere  around  7pm  .  i  had  to  close  up  my  shop  ,  but  bonfires  are  good  for  business  . 

federal agent miller:  are there any witnesses who can corroborate your answer? anyone you spoke to tonight? anyone you arrived with?

i  spoke  to  tez  tonight  ,  but  i  arrived  alone  .  i  doubt  anyone’s  willing  to  tell  you  that  they  were  in  my  shop  purchasing  occult  items  .

federal agent miller:  did you see the victim, lillian jo, at or around this event tonight?

no  ,  i  didn’t  .

federal agent miller:  do you directly know the victim?

i’ve  seen  her  around  and  knew  about  her  ,  but  we  didn’t  really  speak  all that  much.

federal agent miller:  (if yes) how do you know the victim? were you and the victim on good terms? (if no, ignore.)

i  manage  a  small  little  occult  shop  in  town  .  i  do  things  like tarot  readings  ,  sell  crystals  ,  coffee  readings  .  why  ?  do  you  want  me  to  tell  you  your  future  ? 

federal agent miller: thank you for cooperating, this is the last question. do you know anyone who may have wanted to harm or kill the victim?

if  i  knew  prior  ,  i  would  have  done  something  about  it  ,  so  no  .

federal agent miller:  thank you, once again. the interrogation is over - you may leave.

rose.

“Well, I hope they tipped you well,” she said. “Weird how they always tell us to have manners. And then they go on talking about people the way they do.” With that, she accepted whatever it was he gave her. It was a can, closed and everything. For his sake, she hoped he wasn’t offended.

“Thank you.” Sure, it was craft beer, but it was the thought that counts. “Oh, I’m sorry. That sounds rough. How are you with your mom?”

“I think it’s the circle of life, honestly. When you get to be that old, pride is bound to get higher and higher. You start thinking God put you here for a real reason and it’s to not hold back.“ Ignacio doesn’t want to find out if he’s going to get that way too at an older age. That’s why he’s focusing on the woman’s drink for now.

"You’re welcome.” He smiles softly while opening his can and taking a small sip. “We’re great. She taught me everything I needed to know about flowers. What about you and your parents?”

vinnie.

“   think   that   ?   ”   vinnie   questions   ,   though   he’s   certain   it   won’t   change   his   mind   about   the   elderly   .   his   grandparents   had   been   reserved   people   ,   though   when   it   came   to   their   bigotry   ,   they   were   loud   and   opinionated   .   much   like   the   seniors   that   reside   in   reed   (   or   at   least   the   ones   that   still   leave   the   house   )   .   “   your   flowers   should   be   fine   .   i’ve   never   seen   anything   bad   come   out   of   the   bonfires   .   ”   shrugging   ,   he   leads   the   other   to   the   lone   lounge   table   and   tent   combination   ,   and   holds   up   two   fingers   and   asks   for   two   shots   of   wild   turkey   .   “   that   answer   your   question   ?   hope   you   don’t   mind   the   taste   of   death   .   ”

“  personally  i  think  it’s  an  excuse  for  old  people  to  be  mean  .  “  ignacio  knows  how  to  rest  people  ,  but  that  sort  of  thing  is  earned  .  if  the  elders  want  to  frown  down  upon  him  because  a  man  he  barely  knows  is  in  jail  ,  then  that’s  on  them  .  they’ll  just  have  to  get  their  flowers  from  elsewhere  .  “ guess you’re  right  .  maybe  i  was  just  worried  because  of  the  recent  series  of  events  .  ”  he  has  to  admit  that  it’s  been  weird  .  he  follows  vinnie  and  a  smirk  forms  on  his  face  .  “  does  it  look like  i’m  the  type  to  let  a  little  taste  of  alcohol  get  me  down  ?  ”  when  the  shots  are  brought  over  ,  ignacio  raises  his  glass  to  clink  it  with  the  other  man’s  and  then  downs  it  .  he  winces  a  bit  ,  but  still  seems  fine  .  “  real  death  comes  from  mixing  things  for  the  drinks  my  family  used  to  make  .  ”

tezer nearly jumped in fright when another person appeared beside her. when she first arrived at the bonfire, she hadn’t felt skittish, but any new noise or unknown presence had her heart racing. her brother was practically a chaperone, maintaining a distance of a few feet, but staying around just in case. “the future is uncertain,” she stated, gazing at the flames before them. tez had brighter thoughts for her future, of which arthur was included, but now she took life day by day. she peered at lázaro and then the items in his hands, squinting to get a better look in the dim light. “burning something?”

the way that people react around him is to be expected, even if he knows that it’s not because of him. having the bonfire so close to the courts probably has half of the people on edge. lázaro still maintains a smile on his face, almost feeling challenged by her claim. “while it is uncertain, can change with one choice, there are things one can do to help shape it. peer into it based off of the current mindsets.” tarot, pendulums, coffee readings, he seems to specialize in that branch. “a couple of dead herbs. they’re said to work for protection.” he shows tezer three separate herbs closer him, twisting them in his hand. some people will probably think he’s cursing the town, but he doesn’t really care.

vinnie.

“   who   gives   a   fuck   what   old   people   think   ?   they’re   either   dying   or   about   to   die   .   ”   vinnie   laughs   ,   watching   as   the   other   tosses   an   article   of   clothing   into   the   fire   .   “   don’t   think   a   small   bonfire   in   our   little   town   is   going   to   do   much   to   the   ecosystem   .   ”   as   ignacio   turns   toward   him   a   bit   more   ,   vinnie   adjusts   his   body   accordingly   ,   stepping   back   from   the   flames   slightly   to   face   the   other   .   “   eat   ?   no   .   drink   ?   yeah   .   i   heard   lone   lounge   has   a   couple   bartenders   here   tonight   ,   so   .   .   .   let’s   go   see   what   they   can   whip   up   for   us   ?   ”

“  some  people  think  they’re  the  ones  with  the  secrets  of  the  world  .  “  since  vinnie  isn’t  one  of  them  ,  ignacio  makes  sure  not  to  bring  the  elders  up  anymore  .  “  well  ,  good  .  the  last  thing  i  need  are  my  flowers  not  growing  properly  because  of  a  little  tradition  .  ”  at  the  mention  of  drinks  only  ,  the  florist  was  kind  of  glad  that  he  had  made  and  ate  his  own  enchiladas  at  home  .  he  shoves  his  hands  into  the  pockets  of  his  own  hoodie  and  nods  ,  heading  into  the  direction  of  the  drinks  .  “  let  me  know  if  you’re  just  trying  to  lighten  the  mood  or  forget  the  night  .  i’ll  be  more  prepared  for  the  type  of  drinking  buddy  i’m  about  to  have  .  ”

rose.

“It’s a shame to have that against you,” Rose said, sympathetic. It wasn’t her, but another girl who had attended her high school who had some sort of accusation like that. Either she brought something or she took something, but she got a suspension before she was proven to be innocent. And to the man’s story, she tut-tutted.

“Anything in a can, really.” And don’t tamper with it. Rose had a little street sense, however curious she was. “Why’d you toss your hoodie in?”

“Eventually when I was the one delivering their flowers when they got older and sicker, I think that they finally managed to get over it.“ Ignacio knows it’s a terrible thing to bring up, but bits of his father always slip up here and there. He nods slightly and goes to grab them two craft beers in cans before handing one over to Rose. 

“Closed and everything.“ He cleans the top of his with his sleeve before cracking it open. “It was my father. He and I never really had the best of relationships.“ Or any since the man is still in jail. “Finally convinced my mom to let me finish tossing his stuff out.“

𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨: ignacio finally decides to burn what’s left of his father’s items in his house and he’s feeling a bit more relieved, but ridolfo’s reputation is still weighing heavy on me 

" the first time i came to this i was twenty-six years old and i could have sworn hearing some of the elder folk saying i brought a knife or something. ” he tosses a black hoodie into the open flame and steps away a bit. he’s better with moist temperatures, used to working in a flower shop. to be honest, the fire kind of scares him, so he makes sure not to wear anything too flammable or dangly. “ a part of me wonders what all of this does to the ecosystem, but then again i don’t have all of the brainpower to put together that diagram in my hide. ” ignacio snickers softly while turning away from the flames, deciding to focus on the other person better. that seems to help. “ can i get you anything to eat or drink ? figured i might as well stay here for a bit and some company is always nice. ” even though he looks like a loner from his all black gear to his tattoos.

𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨: lázaro has been keeping mostly to himself during the bonfire, but at the risk of not wanting to be blame for any mishaps he tries to get closer to the crowds and mingle a bit

" y’know, if you were drinking coffee right now i could have tried predicting your future. ” lázaro walks up and stands next to them, carrying a couple of dead herbs in his hands to burn. he looks away from the source of the flame and over to them, not quite smiling just yet. “ unless of course you’re too afraid to know what the future has in store for you. i just hope that you don’t yell out town brujo and start a witch hunt after me. ” one hand moves up to tug on the strap of his bag. he wrecks of herbs since he has just come from the small shop, crushing or burning them for different things. “ so is this what all of you do for fun ? it’s not much different from what i like to do. ” after eleven years this seems commonplace, but string together words in another language while doing this and people think you’re cursing them.

[ cis male, he/him, manny montana , thirty-seven ] i can’t be sure, but i think i just saw IGNACIO SUAREZ drive onto the parkway. don’t they know we’re not supposed to be driving on that haunted road right now? maybe it has to do with the fact that they’re so +GENUINE and -INDULGENT that makes them feel DISHEARTENED about everything going on. i guess we could also chalk it up to the fact that they’re always reminding me of THE SMELL OF FLOWERS AT FIVE IN THE MORNING, TOMBSTONES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, BODY COVERED IN TATTOOS. either way, i hope they get back safely. 

jay again ! this is my misunderstood florist who for all intent & purposes looks creepy , but he’s a teddy bear on the inside ! his stats & bio can be found here , with a tldr below and the tw’s in the tags ! 

his mother was a florist while his father was a drug dealer who used his wife’s business to push drugs 

thankfully she didn’t know, so when he was caught with not only possession, but also a deal gone wrong and charged with homicide, she was free to still run her business 

ignacio was 6 at the time, so everything he knows is mainly from his mother 

had a contrast of looking a lot like his father, but being a lot like his mother on the inside 

through the flower business, he started delivering anonymous flowers to desmond from an admirer & still doesn’t wanna break their trust

he started volunteering at the graveyard when his mother pointed out the tomb of the man his father killed and hasn’t stopped since then 

on the outside ignacio looks tough, almost like he’s mean, but on the inside he’s kind and compassionate. he understands why some would have preconceived notions of him though, so he tries his best not to judge them for it 

also pretty much accepting any type of plot for him ! he’s just a soft flower man that looks rough on the outside lol

hello hello ! i’m jay and this is lázaro , mysterious town witch. his stats & bio can be found here , but i’ll put a tldr under the cut too with tw’s in the tags ! 

lived with his parents & paternal grandparents his entire life 

was taught the craft by his grandmother francesca, a local bruja who the town thought was not only mysterious, but generally weird 

due to this he grew up distant from others his age and bonded more with her 

sophomore year of college, his four family members died on vacation in a drowning accident 

he spent christmas break tending to the funeral and mourning them 

after that he got his degree and opened up a small occult shop, but he’s never been quite the same 

now he’s the mysterious lone witch that most people talk about 

there are even some whispers of how he gave arthur gallagher a pouch of crystals two weeks before his accident that was said to protect him 

honestly open to any type of connections when it comes to lázaro ! even though he’s a local, he’s kind of isolated himself away from some of the others so i think there could be some interesting connections
