Aw mate, I love this blog! Especially considering, like, everything we know about Irish (and Manx) mythology is basically nothing that hasn’t been Christin overhauled. You name an Egyptian or Norse deity and you immediately have a mental image and know exactly their personality. Irish? Um. Well, they may or may not be gods?? And uh. Ones gotta silver hand?
I love folklore and mythology and I love research. So you can see what shape hole this blog fills in my soul. Cheers lol 🥲😂
I really appreciate that. 💙 And yes, the fact that these oral traditions and myths were only written down by Christian scholars and monks from the Early Medieval period onwards has done some significant damage to historical accuracy due to author bias. You kinda have to read between the lines and do some research to piece things together, and even then you'll never have the whole picture because so much information is permanently missing. But we can still take what we have and make memes, I suppose!

And yeah, Aengus is a fun character in the mythology because on one hand, he was able to trick his dad (the Dagda) into giving up his house via some clever wordplay, and on the other hand, he fell in love with a girl in his dreams and was so angsty about it he fell sick for a year. What a guy.
