The Engineering Design Process

Choosing A Blogging Platform
I needed some help here. I asked my dad and he suggested searching Google for "blog platforms". A search found an article titled 8 Best Blogging Platforms Reviewed, by startbloggingonline.com. The article compared the best 8 blogging platforms in a simple table. I learned my blog would need to have hosting included. It would need to be easy to use and free. Mobile friendly and free templates would be cool too. These requirements cut the choice down to two: Tumblr and WordPress.com. Only Tumblr was recommended as being suitable for micro blogs. That sounded perfect.
More than a million free vectors, PSD, photos and free icons. Exclusive freebies and all graphic resources that you need for your projects
I wanted some pictures for my blog and found them on freepik.com. Freepik is what is called a stock photography website - a free graphic resource for designers. I have learned that I need to credit the author (called attribution) if I use their images free, as in images designed by Freepik. The images are mostly free with attribution. I also learned about the differences between photos, vectors and icons. The banner across the top of my blog is a photo, the little blue monster is a vector and my avatar is an icon.
So What Is This Blog About Anyway?
This blog is part of my school technologies project. We are to investigate a technology and learn how it has changed from past to present; analyse and predict where we see this technology heading in the future and how we can improve it. We are to share our research on a website and blog about the design process we used to create our new technology. I will use this blog to journal it all as I go and demonstrate my learning. You can find the project webpage here: http://jozajac.wixsite.com/technology/the-project
A resource for learning web technologies
W3Schools is a fantastic resource for learning web technologies like HTML, CSS and JavaScript for example. You can code right in your browser and see the changes.
You can find the target attribute example from my previous post here: HTML <a> target Attribute Example
My First HTML With target="_blank"
I wanted to be sure some Tumblr links open in a new tab or new window. I can use HTML to force this to happen by adding the HTML <a> target attribute.
Yay! My First Blog Post
Yay! My first blog post ever. What an accomplishment. But that is not all I have learned. I have learned about hosting, blogging platforms, URLs, custom URLs, custom domains, vanity usernames (namechk.com) and even used a little HTML in this post. A lot of time and work had to be put in before I could even get to this point. In my next posts I will talk about my first HTML, what this blog is about, choosing a blogging platform and choosing a name for this blog.
