6 months to go!
6 months to go before the big 26 miler, the London Marathon. And it's time to be that person! I need your help and support for this one!
This is the aim and this has been the thing I've been working towards for a couple of years now, so let's show it who's boss.
In fear of boring everyone with posts, I have been sending out my donations page in waves. And this time, it's the social networking wave!
Please please support myself and my younger brother. JDRF are a fantastic charity, providing care and researching for a cure of Type 1 diabetes. For more about why I am doing this, go here http://indi-jogs.tumblr.com/post/93967271197/why-am-i-doing-this
SOoooOOOooo the important bit, here is my donations page
https://www.justgiving.com/indiasmarathon/
And if you'd prefer to text use the instructions in the image linked to this post :).
I know some of you may want to wait until the day, which is fine, and I know some of you won't be able to afford it (although really any counts! even if it's 1p!) Every penny add's up and you can donate privately.
I'll be giving you other ways to donate in the coming months too.
Thank you for all your support, and thank you to the people that have already donated! 12%! woohoo!
This weekend I'm doing a small warm up run (in my newest trainers) of 6 miles in Jersey! I'm going to be updating everyone with the trainer hunt and my battles within training so far in a separate post.
THANK YOU and wish me luck :) xxx
Woooo, 11% of the way there! Just a massive thank you and shout out to my auntie, the latest sponsor!
My trainer hunt is going well so far, and I'll be sure to post a proper post all about picking them. I'm currently testing them out at the gym (in case I need to take them back), and the first session went really way, 30 mins running with no blisters! So cross-fingers it works out :)
Why am I doing this?!
Okay, a lot of people have congratulated me on attempting this, and a lot of people have said I'm bonkers, or they could never do it. But WHY am I doing this?
I'm raising money for JDRF, yes, but it's because my youngest brother was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes about 5 years ago, (he's now 15) and he totally inspires me everyday. I'm so proud of how he deals with it, so I want to do this for him.
Just think when you were 10 years old, growing up into your teens... thinking about normal child and teenage things. But what he has to deal with is quite something else. Having to remember to take injections at every meal time, and measuring his blood sugar throughout the day to make sure he's had enough insulin to stop him from either getting too high or too low, which both have devastating consequences in the short and long term. For me this is also about not only raising awareness about diabetes but also about how awesome my brother is. Type 1 diabetes can happen to anyone, it's not based upon diet, life style or hereditary genes. It affects your whole life from enjoying normal day-to-day activities, i.e. exercise and eating. It is all about keeping in balance the whole time, 24 hours a day.
BUT despite all what might sound like doom and gloom, Albie is AMAZING at looking after himself. He's taking it head on, and not let it get him down. He's been very open about it and told all his classmates straight away, and educated the people around him. He's cured my fear of needles, seeing as I only have to have one like twice a year, and he does it three times a day, by himself! So I have no excuse. He really is a star, and I want to thank him very much for being so strong and the reason why I've been inspired to do this.
JDRF's mission statement "Improving lives until we find the cure. We fund research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes."
Please help me, the amazing work JDRF do, and of course my younger brother Albie by sponsoring JDRF. Every penny counts, I mean really, even if you can only spare 10p. Or if you want to just support us in person, then come into London for the day in April :D.
I'll stop waffling now, and thanks for reading (if you got this far you're awesome!)
A MASSIVE THANK YOU from me.
India x
I was saving until a proper time to share this page, maybe closer to the time. But I can't believe how generous the first two sponsors have been, so they deserve a post! This is my fundraising page for the London Marathon in April.
Martyn donating an amazing £40 and my Dad donated a whopping £150!
THANK YOU SO MUCH :) It is really motivating x
I've signed up to a smaller race, (many more to come I hope), which is the Jersey relay race, on their Marathon day. I'm doing the final stretch of the relay which equates to about 6.3 miles, very excited! And I don't think I've ever flown on such a short flight for a day out :D
The end of week 1 to the new routine. We ran around our local park and then run up and around the Imperial War Museum. It was so hot! We also got awarded woth stickers for completing 6 workouts this week! :D I'm a watermelon.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Just thought I'd upload the acceptance letter to prove it, makes it feel more real.
From a lot of help from my boyfriend, we are going to be carrying out a rigorous get fit and healthy plan, as you can see from the wall-chart and stickers, we are taking it very seriously.
I want to tackle a few runs leading up to the London Marathon, and i've signed up to a 6.3 mile run, which is part of a Marathon relay, where I'll be doing the home stretch (no pressure!), in Jersey! But that won't be until October. So before then I'm hoping to mix in a few longer and shorter runs and I'll report back here with any tips or tricks I find along the way. Hopefully I won't bore you guys with blister stories this year.
Wish me luck!
10K Trainer FREE - Run for PINK: Amazon.co.uk: Appstore for Android
I've now started my training off properly, beginning with a 10k goal, and I'll move up as the year goes on.
So far my trainers haven't been an issue, the old grey ones must have been faulty. So I'm hoping this year will be more about discovering more running techniques, rather then avoiding blisters the whole time.
My other goal is also not to over fuel. I found myself getting so hungry in my training before that it wasn't really benefiting my body. So interval training, endurance, and weights here I come!
Woo, so excited!!
I'M IN!
I haven't written on here in a while, but we've been sticking to the primal diet as much as possible, and I much prefer the smoothies for breakfast then toast! It makes such a difference.
And I'm about to get a whole lot stricter on the diet, as I just found out, I GOT INTO LONDON MARATHON for April 2015!! YEEE HAAAARRRR.
I'll be running for JDRF and can't wait. Thank you all for your continued support on my running adventures!
India xx
Day 1 of getting back on the healthy/fittness wagon. Martyn and I have decided to go Primal too! And concentrate on irradicating sugar from our diet, the unnatural kind at least! It's a 21 day challenge to get into the swing of it. I picked up a new pair of lunarglides, (look at that colour!) after all the bluster problems from the last pair. I went into Niketown for some advice abd they suggested I might have had a faulty pair, and that I should be checking my gait about every 6 months, as running styles can change as you run more. I was quite surprised by our efforts, seeing as I hadn't run in a long time, but we managed to run all the way to work with a couple of walk intervals. We also looking into signing up for a couple of runs. I'd love to solve the blister problem so I could run a longer run! I've taken a photo of how I look on the first day, to view progress :) We also bought £10 worth of fruit between us from the local market, we got tons! Wish us luck! Day 1 so far: 30 min exercise jogging and walking Breakfast: Yogurt and raspberries and a black tea
Money raised!
Well I got a notification that my raising money page for the WWF i snow about to end! The total moment raised for the Great South Run was £135!! Thank you to all who supported me, and help raise the money towards a great charity.
I've had a bit of a winter hiatus. But I'm going to be back, hitting the ground running, probably more hitting then running to start with. But I want to invest in some new trainers to beat up those blisters! My feet have made a full recovery now, so here's to the hunt! I think whilst the nights/mornings are still a little dangerously dark, I'm going to get on with the exercise bike and some better eating habits. I learnt how much sugar is in bread this week, it's insane!
Anyway, I hope everyone is following through on their likely "get healthy" New Year Resolutions, and I'll update soon!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me through overcoming my Asthma so far. I can't believe I ran ten mile's and didn't have an asthma attack. Truly has been a great experience. It's been an overwhelming experience, and highly recommend it.
Here's to booking the next challenge!
My 10 mile run is finally here! If you Luke to support me, visit my page :).
You can also support me via text by sending INDI87 >insert either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, or £10< to 70070.
So the last week, training has been tough with more blistering problems. I've strapped up my shoes and I'll strap up my feet this morning and hope for the best!
I will be starting at 11am and I'm hoping to finish in 2 hours. I'll report back with my results!
Wish me luck :)
Rejection number 2
I rang VLM today about my magazine that never arrived and the status of my application (considering the title of this post) - rejection number two but from the VLM ballot system this time. Well fear not, am currently coming up with a plan B. As there are plenty of marathons out there, and it's a great excuse for an adventure.
Only 2 and a half weeks to my 10 miler! Eeep I'm nervous. I've been using my Garmin watch, it's really handy. It keeps track of everything, tells me off if I'm going to slowly, and stops me getting out my phone a and launching over the pavement. Check out the Garmin Connect map I've put above, pretty nifty!
I've been constantly trying out various ways to prevents blisters, and I think I may have found my answer it Strappal. I tape up my feet with this really sticky medical tape, and it seems to reduce the rubbing directly onto the skin, hence no blisters. Not sure what will happen in 10 miles, but so far so good. I'll keep you updated. Also, on this evenings run, I tested out my new water bladder that I got for my running bag. It's brilliant! Never have to worry stretching for a bottle again. I highly recommend it.
Rejection number 1
So, I've been rejected by the charity place, but they've put me on the waiting list in case someone drops out, they have also suggested trying to apply for the Paris marathon and the Brighton marathon. So I might be able to do some sight seeing.
Still awaiting the VLM ballot magazine, so I still have a chance through that. We'll just have to wait and see!
47 minutes!
Blimey, I think I had a wave of determination yesterday! 47 minutes running time, woop! Apparently i did about 4 and half miles, so a little slower then usual. But I'm sure the pace will pick up after a bad stint.
