You are not excused

for denying support to someone you care about with a mental illness when your excuse is that you don't understand what they're going through. If a friend's sister died, you would be there for them even if you've never experienced the death of a loved one. If your co-worker found out they had cancer, you would listen and offer to be there for them should they need it even if you have never developed cancer. You don't have to understand what someone is going through in order to offer support and kindness and a shoulder to cry on.

Can we take a moment and remember that Tyler Joseph said this?

“I just wanted to tell people ‘hang in there.’ There’s someone out there who does know what you’re going through. I know there’s a lot of bands that say they wanna use music to help people.
