Artist Spotlight: Goth Babe

If you have been following the indie scene for awhile you know that there are more artists making a name for themselves in the scene that classify themselves as “Dream Pop.” These bands consists of acts like “Current Joys”, and “Wild Nothing.” These acts thrive on almost synth sounding guitar riffs in order to create a truly unique melodic sound that immediately soothes your soul and forces you to relax, and newcomer “Goth Babe” is no exception. 

Coming out of the explosive New York indie scene “Goth Babe” is the brain child of singer/songwriter Griffith Washburn. His music defiantly draws from his persona, and if you follow Goth Babe on Facebook you know what I am talking about. Throughout Goth Babes social media you can see that Washburn draws a lot of his personality and music from the hip culture that New York has always been known for. Everything from the bands album covers to the way Washburn dresses, is very unique, different, and oozes cool. Bands You Should Be Listening To: The Yugos

If you are a seasoned veteran of the local Cincinnati Indie scene chances are you have heard of the band The Yugos, but if you are new to it or don’t live in the Cincinnati area boy do I have a band for you. The Yugos are a Indie Pop band based out of the Cincinnati suburb of Taylor Mill, Kentucky who bring the high energy and super catchy music style of bands like “The Drums” and “Phoenix” and put their own quirky spin on it. Their latest album “Weighing the Heart” I feel most accurately captures what I am talking about. Throughout the album the songs are characterized with lots a interesting, quirky, and upbeat guitar riffs coupled with the lead singers unique voice to make a truly unique Indie Pop sound that draws inspiration but doesn't copy or mimic other artist in the genre.
