We are pleased to announce that Shooting Columbus has received major support from the MAP Fund.  An Exchange Grant from the Network of Ensemble Theaters will also help fund the research and community phase of this project, The Indigenous Cycles, which convenes at the Herberger Institute at Arizona State University.

Background

Indigenous Cycles is a multi-year project by The Shooting Columbus Collective, a group of indigenous artists from the Southwest, culminating in a performance premiering at Borderlands Theater (Tucson, AZ) in the Spring of 2017.

Artists of the collective include musician/activist Klee Benally (Diné, or Navajo), visual artist Chandra Narcia (Akimel and Tohono O’Odham, Laguna and Hopi), Tygel and Ryan Pinto (Diné), and lead artists director Rachel Bowditch (European American), audio/video designer Adam Cooper-Terán (Yaqui, Chicano, Russian), and playwright/performance artist Denise Uyehara (Okinawan/Japanese-American).

Our community partners are Diné community activist Fern Benally and The School of Film, Dance and Theatre in the Herberger Institiute for Design & the Arts at Arizona State University (ASU).

The project takes place over several phases: Development, Research / Dramaturgy, Rehearsal & Creation, and Production / Performance, with funding from the Network of Ensemble Theaters.
