I’m really into these atmospheric illustrations with a bit of animation. So I was dying to try it out. I didn’t have much time for that one, but I’m hoping to do more of these in the future.

Series appreciation: Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch
Having recently gotten my sister hooked on that series, too, I think it is time for another shoutout to Ben Aaronovitch’s Peter Grant series. It has it all: gripping mysteries, a sound magic system, great characters (both main and supporting), a diverse cast, London, geek culture and on top of it all, you learn a lot about - everything, basically (architecture, British police system, railways, jazz, …).
I finished a project!!
Currently on my tbr: The cat who ate danish modern by Lilian Jackson Braun
Previsously on my tbr
I think @theheulwen, @myellenbee and @indigoblueskye recommended this series to me (I am sure it was at least two out of these three). It took me a little time to get into the first book because I had expected something different (I didn’t read the blurb so I expected a female main character and that the cat(s) would be there from the start). However, now I am really enjoying these books (I like the way Koko helps with the investigation, pretty believable and enjoyable) and I might buy more. They also mark the first books I bought as ebooks (for 0.99 Euro) and they have helped me a lot during my wakeful periods at night - nicer on the eyes than turning on the lights and reading a regular book.
The only thing I stumbled over in this book, was the use of the word “Negro” - I am not really sure if this is a total no-go nowadays but it made me uncomfortable nevertheless (the German equivalent is considered really rude and racist).
I have read most of the Cat Who books and enjoyed them very much. I just like the main characters (cats included). ☺ My grandmother used to use the word negro. It bothered me, but that was her generation's word and she wasn't flexible to changing her vocabulary. I always imagined Lilian Jackson Braun as looking a bit like my grandma. I hope you are enjoying the books!
