The Germanic Federation was one of the major superpowers during the Hardshell Wars. Their mechanical ability was matched only by their rival, the Celtic Kingdom. However, they had also gained an edge by enlisting the help of the Flatland Union and Mountaintop Confederation. A promise of everlasting peace between the three entities and defense from surrounding nations, among other things, swiftly brought the crude yet durable Hardshells of the Federation's western neighbors to the fight. Far more crude was the solution of the Northward Union, which produced what were essentially tanks with arms, only capable of the most basic actions and easily fallen to the Hardshells of the Flatland Union and Mountaintop Confederation. Far less quality than what the Celtic Kingdom had produced. The Eastern Empire, however, proved quite useful in their efforts. With Hardshells that were easy to produce and quite capable, combined with a strategic mind to keep the damage on their frankly feeble exterior to a minimum, they proved to be quite an effective force fighting alongside the Kingdom and Union. A certain display by a Federation Hardshell, however, had brought moral at an all-time low.
All nations within the Eastern Empire were quite capable when it make to making swords. While many were unable to afford most of the quality metal the Germans and Celts had for millenia, they made the most of what they had, and did a damn fine job too. This tradition carried on with their Hardshells, drawing large, steaming hot sabers during the battle that could put quite the gash into a Flatland Hardshell. But while Flatlanders were a good fight, Germans were a nightmare against any Hardshell that wasn't Celtic.
Confederates had intercepted a large group of Eastern Imperials attempting to invade the Germanic Federation from Acadia, south of the Federation. Although outnumbered, the Confederates attacked. Although Confederate Hardshells were no slouch in combat, they had a difficult time repelling the Imperials. One particularly skilled swordsman making short work of the Mountaintopper's Hardshells. Calling for help from their Germanic ally, a Federation Hardshell had been sent to help the Confederates. Just one. The situation seemed hopeless at first until the pilot sprung into action, easily taking out several Imperial Hardshells with the help of his Confederate allies. The Federal Pilot had met with the Imperial swordsman, dashing towards the German, blade raised, and with a single motion...
Burning steel filled the air, creaking and sizzling.
The Imperial sword firm in the grasp of the Federal Hardshell's hand. The battle froze. Confederate and Imperial pilots alike staring at the display, mouths open as the German wound up and punched the Imperial hardshell with the force of an explosive, knocking it on its side and putting it out of commission. The Hardshell stood proud before reaching for its sidearm, firing at the Imperials, who began to retreat. The Confederates shook off the display they had just witnessed and joined the Federal Pilot, certain that from that point onward, they were on the winning team.
