carlo ratti has conceived the pankhasari retreat, a digitally connected environment in the indian himalayas that aims to promote sustainable tourism.

‘Though a mountain top might be a bit extreme to some, the Himalayan valley of pankhasari is an ideal place for staying connected and testing new longer-term concepts of international living and working, trying to build a bridge between the local and the global communities,’ explains Carlo Ratti, professor at MIT in Cambridge and founding partner of Carlo Ratti Association.

India-based artists beautify Mumbai cabs for the taxi fabric project

The team behind the text fabric project plans to outfit up to 30 taxis with colorful and creative compositions, printed onto fabric that lines the entire car interior. 

With the funds collected through kickstater, a group of emerging indian designers will show off their talent and storytelling skills by illustrating a design, printing it onto fabric, stitching upholstery and seat covers, and fitting the sheets onto the taxi.

Kali, Goddess of Death, Lights up The Empire State Building

Filmmaker Louie Psihoyos put up the exhibition called Projecting Change to highlight the dangers of species extinction and appeal for conservation. Images of endangered animals were displayed on the façade of the Empire State Building for several days. The finale came in the form of Goddess Kali, who is both gentle mother and fierce warrior — a perfect representation of Mother Nature who can nurture and destroy at will what human beings do not respect and take care of.

The 'Untouchables': The Tradition of Chhaupadi in Nepal

In some parts of Nepal, girls and women are made to live in makeshift huts while they’re menstruating out of the superstitious reasoning, and a tradition linked to Hinduism, that their blood is considered impure. The country’s top court ruled the practice illegal in 2005, but the decision hasn’t trickled over to the ex-Maoist district of Surkhet and Achham in the far west, only reachable by foot, where it began and remains widely observed.
