Last week I worked on a four- day production project. It was called “Metis Project | YOU JUST DO”. They asked me to join the team as photographer. I was in charge of the ‘behind the scenes’ photos. I worked on this project with 5 differen companies. Everyone had their own role in the project. Hace un tiempo me fuí con Bernat filmar de un concierto de Las Migas.

Cuatro mujeres: Alba, Marta, Alicia y Roser. Cuatro ciudades de norte y sur: Barcelona, Sevilla, Córdoba y Lérida. Cuatro visiones distintas de la música y una misma pasión: el flamenco. Las Migas comienzan una nueva etapa. Nuevo espectáculo, nuevo repertorio y muchas ganas de mirar hacia delante.

Dos andaluzas a las guitarras: Marta Robles, la veterana del grupo, y Alicia Grillo, la incorporación más reciente y más joven. Dos catalanas: Alba Carmona a la voz y Roser Loscos al violín.

Ellas forman este insólito cuarteto femenino de flamenco y músicas mediterráneas. Aunque provienen de mundos diversos, coinciden en la búsqueda apasionada de la belleza. Búsqueda constante en cada una de las notas que componen o interpretan. Una explosión de sonidos puros, únicos y rebeldes: así es el universo sonoro de Las Migas.

Desde sus inicios, el cuarteto afincado en Barcelona ha llenado grandes teatros y participado en los festivales más importantes de músicas del mundo. Su nueva andadura ofrece un estilo más rítmico, más luminoso y con toques latinos. Su espectáculo, recién estrenado, esconde muchas sorpresas: para empezar, Alba presenta por primera vez una coreografía con cante y baile, donde regala toda su sensualidad y desparpajo. El espectáculo nace intimista para tornarse, poco a poco, desgarrador. Y canalla. Y hasta cómico en algún momento. Va creciendo en intensidad pero conserva el estilo exquisito, el cuidado del sonido y del corazón que siempre ha caracterizado la música de Las Migas.

Ellos realizaron en Luz de Gas. Un hermoso lugar y un público lleno de gente. Aprecié la noche y el ambiente. Fue muy espectacular y la música bueno.

Saturday I went assisting and filming with Bernat. We had to record the sound and film the artists. I recorded the sound which was new for me, so I learned a lot that day! He filmed the first part while I was recording and after that I filmed aswel.

“Dúo del Mar”, two great artists fuse passion, talent and power to bring an incredible performance that combines the best of flamenco and Spanish guitar.

Ekaterina Záytseva, a maestro of her generation and a classical guitarist.

Marta Robles, one of the most praised female flamenco soloists on the Spanish music scene. I really enjoyed that day. There are good at what they do, playing the guitar. It was wonderful to listen and a honor to film it. Soon we will be filming more of them. Can’t wait!

"If your pictures are not good enough is that you're not close enough." - Robert Capa Ricardo García Vilanova (Barcelona, 1971) is the only photojournalist who has been in Syria since the beginning of the war. In November 2011, during the period known as the “Arab Spring”, he infiltrated into Jabal al-Zawiya in the province of Idlib. There he witnessed the first protests against Bashar al-Assad's regime. Terrified of the Mukhabarat (the secret police), civilians asked journalists to only photograph the children for fear of being identified in newspaper pictures. He also witnessed how this repressive regime used sniper fire and, later on, tanks to break up demonstrations. The civilian population was facing a modern military that attacked with artillery from helicopter gunships and fighter jets, with Scud missiles, even chemical weapons.

A year ago, the September 16, 2014, García Vilanova was kidnapped by the Islamic State with journalist Javier Espinosa at a border crossing with Turkey, north of Syria. 194 days captivity put names to a story that has been repeated for several years.

Today I went to this photo exhibition from Ricardo García Vilanova. I think it was an intense but very impressive and inspirational photo serie.

Yesterday I went filming with Bernat for a music video. With a team of 4, Bernat, Fanny, Aurélien and I, we created a setting for the music video.

Fanny Roz, is a female singer, pianist and actress from southern France. A pure, clear voice, sometimes fragile, sometimes naughty but above all very much alive.

Aurélien Landy Gana, plays the bass, drums, percussion and acoustic guitars. He also learned to use the ProTools (a recording program) and he records all instruments.

She had 3 songs in 3 different settings that needed to be recorded and filmed. The setting was located on a rooftop terrace in Montjuïc with a beautiful view over the city. Bernat shot all the footage and I assist him and took the photographs. It was a great experience and I learned a lot.

Today I went to ‘Montjuïc’ with Feyza. She is my roommate but also the intern of Aime, a friend of Brian. They have linked us together on an assignment. I photograph the stories that she writes. We started at the ‘Magic Fountain’ and ‘Palau Nacional’. We went to the top of the palace and there you have a beautiful view over a large part of Barcelona. Afterwords we walked to ‘Poble Espanyol’. The museum was built in 1929. It consists of 117 full-scale buildings, which make a real Iberian village with streets, houses, parks, theater, school, restaurants and artisan workshops. Our trip ended at the ‘Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys’. It was built in 1929 by Pere Domènech i Roura. Till 2001 it was called 'Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc', because it is located on the mountain it self. It was a great day and tomorrow I will visit another neighborhood.

Er wonen meer dan 4 miljoen mensen in de Gazastrook onder zware politieke en economische omstandigheden met beperkte bewegingsvrijheid. Voornamelijk in de gebieden van de Westelijke Jordaanoever en Oost-Jeruzalem. Temidden van deze schrijnende omstandigheden die voortvloeien uit een 48-jaar lange bezetting, proberen ze het beste te maken van het alledaagse leven.

‘Occupied Pleasures’ neemt een donker humoristische kijk op het dagelijks leven in de bezette gebieden. Doormiddel van het onthullen van een verhaal dat in schril contrast staat met de op grote schaal bekeken bekende reportages, gericht op geweld en conflict. De foto’s zijn genomen tussen 2009 en 2015, ze vervullen een behoefte om de wereld op een andere manier te laten kijken naar dit onrustige gebied. Tanya Habjouqa won terecht de World Press Photo Award in 2014.

Ik ben eergisteren naar de foto expositie van Tanya Habjouqa geweest, ‘Occupied Pleasures’. Ik vond het een erg indrukwekkende maar vooral ook interessante fotoserie. Het op een andere manier er naar kijken heeft mij aan het denken gezet. Onder elke foto stond een klein verhaaltje wat er in de foto te zien was, maar een van de verhaaltjes is mij bij gebleven.

Gisteravond ben ik met Maud en Nora naar Festa Major de Gràcia geweest. Op aanraden van meerdere mensen om mij heen zijn wij een kijkje gaan nemen. Ieder jaar in augustus komen de straten van het district Gràcia van Barcelona tot leven met een fiesta dat een week duurt. Hierbij strijden de straten in de buurt met elkaar om de prijs van de best versierde straat te winnen. Het is een unieke festival. Op de laatste dag van het feest lopen ze de ‘Correfoc’ of ‘Tabalada Infernal’. Dat is een traditionele ‘firerun’ waar de bezoekers worden achtervolgd door de ‘duivel’ zwaaiend met sprankelend vuurwerk. Zeer dramatisch en feestelijk. Dus ook erg leuk om mooie kiekjes te schieten!

Afgelopen maandag had ik met Brian en Bernat afgesproken om een drankje te gaan doen. We zijn de straten van Barcelona ingegaan opzoek naar een leuk tentje. Eerst hebben we nog 2 vrienden van Brian opgehaald en vervolgens zijn we gaan zitten bij La Conferentia. Daar hebben we een wijntje gedronken en lekker tapas gegeten, op z’n Spaans om half 12 ‘s avonds. Daarna zijn we geëindigd bij de Absenta Bar. Een erg gezellige avond en ik heb veel gelachen!

Gister ben ik gevraagd om mee te gaan voor een filmklus van Brian. Deze was in een stadje onder Barcelona genaamd Sitges, of te wel, de ‘gay-city’ van Spanje. Hier moesten we een live show van Odette van der Molen filmen. Daarna hebben we nog een paar mensen geïnterviewd en zat het werk erop voor de nacht! Vanochtend moest ik helaas vroeg opstaan voor mijn Spaanse ochtendlessen maar het was zeker de moeite waard en weer een ervaring rijker!

Indy goes Barcelona

Voor mijn afstudeerstage ben ik verhuisd naar Barcelona! Hier ga ik stage lopen bij Brian Teuwen en Bernat Mestres. Via deze blog ga ik jullie op de hoogte houden van mijn avontuur en ervaring die ik op ga doen!
