hate when im reading and theres a word i dont know so i search it in the dictionary and its like: beuperer. noun. a person who beupers. i'll fucking kill you
god willing? prison 🙏🏻
Life outside seems easier than the 'prison life' we endure in Gaza. I try to imagine other places where life is difficult, but I realize that even the harshest environments are open; at least there is a way out. Gaza is a closed prison. A rocket could kill you at any moment, food and water are rationed, and the heaviest burden is being besieged by memories, destruction, and graves. It is a constant cycle of physical and psychological torment.
Prices in Gaza have started to rise unusually, and goods have almost disappeared from the markets. Types of vegetables are scarce and expensive, and meats have vanished from the markets too. I mean, what's happening is the beginning of a new famine; food is expensive and scarce in the markets!

End of semester is hell. Don't even feel like a real person and want to give up so bad. I'm so stressed and nervous it went all around and back to me just feeling weirdly chill but unable to do anything. One more year of this.
My classmates who were supposed to submit our project yesterday before midnight didnt fucking do it. Great.
I think the worst is over now

"it's just stress" oh thank god, it's just the silent killer that slowly kills you, perfectly harmless, no need to worry

You could have just… not learned our language. It’s not like Americans are desperate to talk to you
See I have this condition called "having any kind of upward mobility in my country is very hard without an english proficiency level of at least B2", I wish it wasn't this way but it's an affliction that sadly affects millions of people in most non-anglo countries in the world.
I love how it flew compeltely past your thick yankee skull that learning english is not something people do for shits and giggles or because we want to come talk to y'all on yankee social media. You think I learned your language so I could come hang out with you on tumblr dot com? I learned it because in most places in the world speaking it is a requirement for the vast majority of non-dead-end jobs. But of course your people are unable to imagine any situation where someone learns a language for any reason other than for funsies. As I said, monolingual anglophones are a deeply solipsistic people.
Anglos will say shit like "uhm you could just not learn a second language 🤷♀️" and think they're refuting the existence of their linguistic imperialism instead of proving how insanely sheltered they are compared to everyone else in the world.
All public universities in my country admit and reject people based on their score on a national standardized test, which features an English module that's worth 1/5 of your final score. This makes not having at least a basic level of English proficiency a major barrier for accessing higher education but yeah, I could have "just... not learned your language" I guess, yeah.
And the reason higher education requires a B1-B2 level of English (a level that shows a knowledge of language that native speakers sometimes don't have in their native language, btw) is that science and academia happens in English. You will have to read papers in English. And if you study a master's or go into research, you may have to write papers in English.
There is research about how making science mainly in English affects the understanding we have of whatever we are studying, btw.
And this is not because English speakers do science better. The most prominent scientific journals and magazines are written in English, because the most prominent scientific institutions are in English-speaking countries and enjoy huge financial backing that other countries don't have. The wealth of knowledge, just to give some examples, of astronautic engineering in Russian or virtually the entire field of the humanities in Spanish and Portuguese is thus ignored because it's "untranslated". Meanwhile, to get your research published here in the Third World, you have to learn English, and to keep up with the global conversation you have to learn English. I have heard of papers of wonderful quality that have not been paid attention at all because they weren't published in English, and years of accumulated research in other languages that only reached transcendence until some anglo speaker grabbed it all and made a review in English.
I don't need to tell you that this creates huge biases and blindspots in all fields. Meanwhile, in the Third World, we are EXPECTED to be able to translate or at least work with works from multiple languages.
