In the Spring of 2017 and 2019 severe flooding occurred in Eastern Ontario along the St. Lawrence River, Ottawa River and tributary streams and rivers. Many homes and cottages experienced damage due to high water levels. These homes were constructed before modern standards on requirements for foundation heights. OOOOH A digital terrain model! This is the best way to design a building on complicated terrain. Also this property happens to be part of the Frontenac Arch which is an exposed precambrian rock formation consisting of mostly rose quartz. You probably noticed it driving along the 401 between Brockville and Kingston. Quartz also happens to be the second hardest mineral on the planet (just behind diamond). What this means is excavating the rock is very difficult and costly. It's also noisy for the neighbours.
