The "Busy" Librarian

I work at a college library (Med) and these are my things. Usually stuff that happens, sometimes I'll post doodles. I also want to mention that I love my job a ton and I'm not terribly upset at the things that I post.

Printing

Dear Patrons, I don't particularly care A LOT about the fact that you're printing slides one per page. What I DO care about is the fact that they're one per page, in black for most of the slide, and not double sided. That A) uses up WAY too much ink and B) Jams the printers like no other. Not to mention slows them down.

So please, at least print your pages in Reverse Grey scale if your professor likes to use all black slides. It'd make me even happier if you use the 2 slides per page option. But it's not a must.

Busybusy

Actually busy, work is speeding up and with the fall semester there are many projects and things to be done! Still posting here, and look!  I finally posted some sort of picture thing.  I'm partially thinking about posting a blog for my art, we'll see.  What do you think?

Guvment's shutting down.

Publichome walks by desk with a handful of stuff, "Government is shutting down" -slight smile, keeps walking to elevator area-  Me: "..." -blinks, returns to drawing thinking she heard wrong.- Publichome walks back towards computers, "Government is shutting down at midnight!" -sits down at computer, gathers more things.  Me to coworker, "... What?" Co-worker, mentions something about it happening before. (I didn't quite hear her before Pubichome comes back) Publichome "Makes you wonder what's really going on. Look it up! -mumbles as she leaves" Me "...W-huh?" Co-worker finally explains that it's not so much as the government shutting down as a rather stupid sort of strike. (Paraphrased for brevity.)

Rap game

Patron walks up with headphones out and holding phone: "Hey, I was wondering if you listen to rap music?"

Me: "Uh.. sometimes? Why?"

Patron: "You wanna hear me freestyle?"

Me: "....n-no I'm good. Thanks though."

Closing time...

Four public users in the last ten minutes. Weird, I guess the TLCPL just closed or something.  e.e Alright, I guess I'll supply you with basic materials like pencil and paper too.  Don't come here like you haven't arrived drunk and or high missy.

Old friends

Well, Looks like we have two old friends in today. The Snorer, and PublicHome.  So far the snorer has been a quiet citizen of the library today. I didn't even notice him until I went to log PublicHome in.  PublicHome likes our library. She thinks it's quiet and calm.  I guess we'll see more of PublicHome. I don't mind too much, she's quiet and doesn't make a big mess or fuss.  So long as she doesn't become DamnHouseFullofKids.

This ain' THAT kind of library

Oh, my god. Look, yes we're technically a "public library" But that does not mean, bring your 4-5 kids in to use the computers. 

How about, you go to a real library. Set your children up with a couple of books as an outing instead.

We are a MEDICAL Library. We have MEDICAL BOOKS. (And a few fun books for ADULTS on loan from TPL)  but, mostly a regular library. #DamnHouseFullofKids (I hope I don't have to bring them back up.)

Busy!

Y'know, I've actually been busy here at work lately. Thus I haven't posted very much.  Not to mention that it's also the summer, so a lot of fun or amusing things have not happened. 

Here comes the Fall!

My home office, in the library.

We've got a new person at the library. Every day so far she's come to sit down, set up this one computer up like her home office. She'll bring in an house phone, some food, tissues, umbrella, and other assortment of items. Apparently the other day she had a box of pizza. And she'll just be there most of the day, being on the computer. Doing, whatever. 

I call her PublicHome

IE Glitch

The sleeper came in today at 10, instead of 10 minutes to midnight. He pitched a small fuss about internet explorer printing a single page by itself when he was in print preview.  Then tells me that's why he needs to go to University of Cleveland, because apparently UT is screwing him over with glitches.  K.

Print

If you haven't signed on to your university email, you don't check it, and your password has expired.  Sure I can help you. But don't answer my question to, "Are you a student here?" With, "Yes" If you haven't enrolled sense last summer.

Discrimination

It's discrimination to the students, because the web browsers are out of date. Perhaps, one is updated but not all. Thus, discrimination.  A patron will not stand for this! He will rant and rave! He will continue doing whatever the hell he was doing, then come back five minutes before closing to check his bank account.  Yep.

Scanners

A fustrated man strolls up to my desk in a huff, he asks:

"Are there any more scanners?!" I smile and direct him to the other floor and where they're located. He rushes off in a huff. After a few seconds I wonder what was wrong with the one on the main floor. A little concerned that it's somehow broken I go in to check it out.  I lift the lid, power's on. I look at the computer, it doesn't seem like someone's decided to flip the damn thing out the window.  I hit a few buttons on the keyboard as I was walking away to find that it did nothing.  ... The computer was just turned off. Durp.  Guess he was in too much of a rush.

The islands

Today an old woman called.

"Mulford library, how may I help you?"

"Hello. My daughter collects quarters and no one seems to know where this is so I thought I'd ask you."

"..Alright?" -thinking she meant some sort of display case for her daughter to display the quarters-

"Northen Marine Islands Sir." (I didn't quite hear her, and asked)

"Is this... on the Health Science Campus?"

"On the back it says Northern marain islands and e-p-u-b-s-l..." (I didn't quite catch the name, but once I realized she was reading the back of the quarter)

"Ah, the last thing is in Latin ma'am." 

"It's Latin?" 

"Yes."

"Oh and you don't know where the islands are?"

"No, I'm sorry ma'am."

"Oh that's why I called you, I was hoping you would know where it was. Thanks anyways Sir."

"Sorry again.. have a good day."

Delivery

If you order food to the library, ensure you give the driver the correct number to call you. You're wasting their time if they have to hunt you down all around the library, when your ass is holed up in a study room three floors away.  And no, you're not entitled to free drinks just because they had to find YOU.

What?

So I'm logging in two people to use the public computers. A lady, and a guy.  The conversation starts out well enough,

Girl:"Hey, will you log us on?"

Me: "Ah, sure." Guy: "Well we need to hurry, when do you close?" Me:"Oh, midnight." guy:"Well we have some time" I get one computer logged for public use, and I turn on another. This is when things get weird. 

Girl:"I love you" Me:"Uh, thanks?"  Girl:"Where'd you get that shirt? I love it." -touches my shoulder-

This is when I start to notice the slight tinge of alcohol and cigarette smoke on her breath

Me: "oh.. Savers." Girl:"I'm a jew, I love you" Me:"... T-thanks?" Girl:"Are you married?" Me:"No.. " Girl:"You should get married." Me:"Well... I doubt it.." Girl:"Well It's not in my plan. It'll work" -touches shoulder again-

-idly observes terrible mascara and blue eyeshadow-  Me:"...okay." -Stares at computer that is taking FOREVER to start up- Girl: "You got that from savers? I got these jeans from there." Me: -feigning slight interest- "Oh? They have nice clothes." Girl: "I love you."

Girl: "So anyone can come up here? Well they have to be in college right? Anyone should be able to if they value their education, and their brain. You should value your brain"

Guy comes back in, says something about her phone and turning it off. I look at his 'gold watch' and watch as he fumbles about with the phone. Girl mentions something about not understanding the phone louder.  Guy:"Shh. this is a quiet library." -Computer finally lets me log on, and I speed the heck out back to the desk.-  So I write this post, about five minutes later the lady comes up, "Can I borrow a piece of paper?" "Sure!" -rifles through some scrap paper- "What day is it? Saturday?" "Sunday" "Oh the lords day. How about that?"

-goes back to computer- The hell?

Wrap it up.

Alright, after the third or fourth pair of unwrapped headphones I've been handed it's time to start taking names.   I hand you a pair of neatly wrapped headphones. You give me back a pair of neatly wrapped headphones. Not a pile of cords and horseshit.
