Something that annoys me when people discuss venat is when they debate whether or not the Sundering was justified when to me that's not the point

Her decision was flawed yes and that's the point. She needed to find a way for mankind to go forward instead of giving up in search of a past they couldn't have reclaimed, and she needed to do it before more people were sacrificed to Zodiark.

She isn't and never was the perfect god that would end mankind's suffering. And she never wanted to be that. And that's what makes her such a compelling character.
