[ When was the last time she had any sleep? It seemed like such a foreign concept. ] One moment you’re fine, But you never are, are you? in your bed and convinced When was the last time Mary that you can close your eyes, felt that way? Nearly a year. that no harm will come to you. A whole year had passed, Not in the stillness of the night. and still sleep eluded her. For those few hours, you’ll be safe. It wasn’t surprising anymore. [ His hold on her was still there, always remaining, reminding, his eyes in the hallway bearing a hole into her skin. He was in the same castle as her. He could come at any moment. A small part of her hoped he wouldn’t dare do such a thing again, but then she knew better to have hope. ] And so Mary often wound up in such a predicament, where it was the middle of the night and everything was calm. But she was terrified. Leaning back slightly in the library chair, Mary couldn’t help but be thankful she knew how to sneak around- something she owed largely to James. The library was nice at night time. [ There were few people one could trust these days. James would always be a confidant of hers. ] Then a figure moved in the distance, peaking her curiosity. "Who’s there?" She called out, gripping her book tightly.
Alice and Marls were fast asleep when Lily awoke in the dead of night, unsure what had disturbed her pleasant slumber. When she rolled in her bed, she immediately noticed that Mary was missing from their dorm. This wasn't the first time it had happened, but still she worried about her friend.
When she wandered down to the common room and didn't find her there, she rushed quietly back up to her dorm to find her uniform from the day before still tossed over her truck at the end of her bed. Without waking her friends, she dressed and slid her feet into her shoes. Once decent, she slipped out of the tower and went in search of Mary.
By the time she reached the library she'd lied to four different prefects about being on an extra patrol at McGonagall's request, and when she slipped into the room she had to duck behind a shelf to avoid being spotted by Madam Pince. "Easy Mac," she whispered, hands in the air when her friend spotted her. "It's just me, Lils."
